The MS Statewide ESF8 Healthcare Coalition and the 9-Planning Coalitions Definition: A collaborative network of healthcare organizations working in conjunction with Emergency Management and respective public and private sector response partners to serve as a multi-agency coordinating (MAC) to assist with preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation activities related to healthcare organization disaster operations.

The MS Statewide ESF8 Healthcare Coalition and the 9-Planning Coalitions Purpose: The Healthcare Coalition and Planning Coalitions, working in conjunction with Emergency Management, provide a healthcare system-wide approach to prepare for, respond to, and recover from incidents that have a public health and medical impact in the short and long-term.

The MS Statewide ESF8 Healthcare Coalition and the 9-Planning Coalitions Function: To support local, district and statewide healthcare system and emergency management activities involving the whole community. This includes building partnerships, planning, training, exercises and evaluation.

The MS Statewide ESF8 Healthcare Coalition and the 9-Planning Coalitions Bottom line : Working in conjunction with Emergency Management to improve community resiliency through: Preparedness: partnerships, planning and exercises Improving communication and information sharing Improving situational awareness and establishing a common operating picture during emergency response

District Planning Coalitions (DPC): Local ESF8 (Public Health & Medical Services) partners, LEPCs and Emergency Management, public/private sectors and community/faith-based organizations working together in preparedness activities: Building Partnerships Planning and Exercises Improving Communication and Information Sharing

MS Statewide ESF8 Healthcare Coalition (MEHC) Purpose: During larger responses, provide state agencies and state-wide associations with accurate and up-to-date information, to anticipate needs and make recommendations to their local members being impacted and to be informed as they work with their county Emergency Manager.

MS Statewide ESF8 Healthcare Coalition (MEHC) Process: The MEHC is activated when public health and medical services are impacted by an emergency and when: The Public Health Command Center (PHCC) is activated or when, Requested by the Director of State MS Dept. of Health (MSDH), Office of Emergency Planning and Response (OEPR)

MS Statewide ESF8 Healthcare Coalition (MEHC) Function: During response, state agencies and statewide associations receive email invitations to MEHC conference calls (followed by email with the minutes and slides) to discuss information relevant to ESF8 partners gathered from: Governor's debriefing US Corps of Engineers MSDH Epidemiology MS Homeland Security MEMA NOAA CDC Levee Board
