Therefore Erasmus student exchanges between your institution and the ETH are now based on a bilateral agreement between the respective faculties of both institutions. Please check with your student exchange office whether such bilateral agreement exists before applying for a studyabroad period within this Student Mobility Programme. If your institution has such an agreement with the ETH, then you can proceed with your application for admission and financial support. A Swiss governmental top-up grant of about Euro 150.- per month will be allocated for your study period at the ETH. Please fill in the enclosed "Student Mobility Programme"-application form, have it signed by your local Erasmus-coordinator and send it without delay to the Socrates/Erasmus -coordinator of the ETHfaculty you applied for who will sign and forward it to us. A list of addresses of the ETH coordinators is enclosed. If your application reaches us by the 1st of May, financial aid will be guaranteed. After this, grant allocation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The grant will be paid upon arrival. Please remember to affix one passport photograph to this application form and one onto the enclosed Photo Neueintretende - form which you are also requested to fill in and return. The latter is for the preparation of your electronic student card. GERMAN COURSES: Most lectures are given in German. The joint Language Centre of the University and the ETH Zurich offers semester courses in German as a foreign language on all levels of proficiency as well as intensive German courses on two levels of proficiency in spring (2 weeks before the start of the semester) and in autumn (three weeks before the start of the semester). The intensive German course and ONE semester course are free of charge for exchange students (there is a charge for copies and other course materials). Please note that a pre-registration is necessary. More details can be found at www.sprachenzentrum.unizh.ch. HEALTH INSURANCE: (http://www.unizh.ch/rebeko/krabe.html) Since January 1st, 1996 everyone who lives in Switzerland for at least three months is required to have health and accident insurance coverage from a Swiss insurance company. In the framework of the Bilateral Agreement between the EU and Switzerland, exchange students from EU and EFTA countries can get exemption from Swiss compulsory health insurance, provided that they obtain the form E111 or the European health insurance card from their health insurance in their home country. Additional information will be included at a later stage when we send you your letter of acceptance. ACCOMMODATION: Our homepage shows you information on the various possibilities of accommodation for Mobility Students in Zurich and its surroundings as well as the appropriate contact addresses: http://www.mobilitaet.ethz.ch/url/connect?in=unterkunft_en RESIDENCE PERMIT: Citizens of the European Union need not do anything before their arrival. Exceptions: Citizens from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia are obliged to apply for an entry visa.
