Your organisation will benefit from enabling employees and clients to make active, sustainable travel choices. There are alternatives to driving alone to work and for trips during the work day. Walking, cycling and public transport can be active, affordable options. Avoid trips by using telecommunications. Where a car is needed, carpool. To boost the health of the workforce, tackle local traffic congestion and reduce pollution it is time for us to do things smarter. TRAVELSMART WORKPLACE The TravelSmart Workplace program is helping workplaces including businesses, government agencies, local councils, hospitals and universities promote active and sustainable travel choices. REDUCE fleet and parking costs BENEFITS OF PROMOTING ACTIVE, SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT REDUCE environmental and social impact FREE up car parking spaces for your customers and visitors ASSIST staff access, recruitment and retention BOOST employee health and productivity

WORKPLACE ACTION Employers influence how their employees and clients travel to their workplaces. Practical and positive action in your workplace will make it easier for more people to choose active, sustainable ways to get around. TRAVELSMART ACTIONS IN YOUR WORKPLACE COULD INCLUDE: Providing information on travel options and promoting their use Improving bicycle parking, lockers and showers Running cycling or walking challenges for staff Encouraging public transport and car pooling for business trips Better managing car parking and use of fleet vehicles Facilitating teleworking and web or video conferencing

MAKING A DIFFERENCE Employers taking action through TravelSmart include: St John of God Hospital in Subiaco offers its employees a green travel allowance and promotes public transport, cycling and carpooling. Woodside Energy reduced staff car parking and provided good facilities for employees who cycle to work when it relocated in the city, cutting car commuting by 20 per cent. Parsons Brinckerhoff has installed video and web conferencing facilities to help Perth staff reduce business travel miles QEII Medical Centre in Nedlands has funded better public transport, provides carpool parking and limits staff parking permits to those who need to drive. Solo car commuting by staff has been reduced from 85 per cent to 43 per cent so far. The City of Joondalup promotes travel alternatives to its employees, has pool bicycles and provides public transport passes for business trips.
