Greetings from President Laurel DuBois Membership! Yes, we never give up on membership. Thank You all for your hard work. Our job is never done. We still need to personally call those who have not paid their dues and ask them to renew. We need to share our enthusiasm for our great organization. Why do you belong? Someone asked you to join. Why are you still a member? Perhaps it is the comradery you have with the Legion or the fun and laughter you enjoy at the meetings. Perhaps it is knowing that the time in the rain collecting donations for Poppies, was worth it, when you see the thanks on a veterans family when you give them a check to help fix that broken stove or car. Those are the emotions you should think about when you ask a member to renew. Why you like the American Legion Auxiliary and how you hope they can participate in spirit or as an active volunteer. I have been very busy, as you may have seen on Facebook. It has been wonderful to hear about all the great things our Districts have been doing this year. I have also presented awards at the VA Hospital Volunteer Luncheons. Thank you Volunteers for the many hours you have donated serving our veterans. I know your tenderness is greatly appreciated. Department Convention is just around the corner. I am looking forward to seeing the many new friends I have made this year. Please get those end of year reports in. They are important, so we can document our efforts and achievements. Together, we will Soar for our Veterans and keep the Wisconsin American Legion Auxiliary a great and vibrant organization. I am very proud of all the things you do to help our Veterans, their families, and our communities. Remember to say Hello God Bless President Laurel DuBois

GREETINGS FROM DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS Executive Secretary/Treasurer Bonnie Dorniak Website: www.amlegionauxwi.org Email: deptsec@amlegionauxwi.org Phone: 608-745-0124 Toll free: 866-664-3863 FAX: 608-745-1947 POPPY PROFITS 20% poppy profits are due to Department Headquarters upon completion of your poppy distribution. A Poppy Profit Report form is included in this mailing. Suggested Donation Forms are posted on the Department website under the Online Forms tab. New donation forms will be available after the 2017 Department Convention. DEPARTMENT CONVENTION: The 97 th American Legion Auxiliary Department Convention will be held July 14-16, 2017 at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton. Detailed convention information was sent in the last unit mailing and is posted on the Department website. Delegates & Alternates to Department Convention: The Constitution of the Wisconsin American Legion Auxiliary (Article VII, Section 1) states, The Legislative body of the American Legion Auxiliary shall be the Department Convention to be held annually... Department Standing Rules (page 73, #17 of the 2016-2017 Red Book) state, The delegates and alternates to the Department Convention shall be chosen by a plurality vote of the members of the Unit who are present at a meeting called for that purpose. Now is a good time to discuss Department Convention, see who from the Unit is eligible and available to attend, and elect your delegates. In order for a member to serve as a Unit delegate, the member must have paid her 2017 dues and the unit must have paid its district dues see Department Constitution, Article VII, Section 2. Thirty days prior to convention, Department will mail a form to each Unit stating how many delegates and alternates it is entitled to, based on membership totals at that time. After receiving this notification, the list of elected delegates/alternates from each Unit must be returned to Department Headquarters by June 30, 2017. NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS: Several units have contacted department headquarters to ask when they can submit new member applications for next year. If a woman is interested and eligible to join the American Legion Auxiliary, she should be allowed to start her membership immediately. Do NOT hold onto her membership application until September. There are still seven months left in this Auxiliary year and these women should be encouraged to get involved in unit activities and enjoy the privileges of membership NOW. Please be sure to inform her that her membership is valid through December 2017 but 2018 dues will start to be collected after Department Convention, which will extend her membership through December 2018. Women who are proud to join the American Legion Auxiliary and understand how the dues payment cycle works will not have a problem paying dues now and then again before the end of the year. Additionally, some benefits, such as grants from the Auxiliary Emergency Fund, are dependent on years of continuous membership. If the member s dues are withheld for 2017, her AEF benefits will be delayed one year. 2018 MEMBERSHIP CARDS: Membership cards and rosters for 2018 will be mailed after convention. National Headquarters pulled the information for printing purposes so any changes that were not received and processed by Department Headquarters by April 1, 2017 will NOT be reflected on the unit s 2018 print outs. 2017 ALA IN THE KNOW CONFERENCES: ALA in the Know conferences have been scheduled each Saturday from September 23 through October 7, 2017. Two conferences will be held each Saturday in different parts of the state to make it easier for members to attend. Every member is encouraged to register for a conference that is convenient with her schedule. A registration form is included in this mailing.

MEMBERSHIP Char Kiesling, Department Chairman 920-558-4224 charbabyrn@yahoo.com Greeting Members and Friends, The year 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I. As we reflect on the Great War and its impact; let us reflect on the history of the American Legion Auxiliary. The women who had served so faithfully during the trying days of the Great War wanted to continue to serve the Auxiliary is the result of that desire. The desire to join the largest women s patriotic organization was and continues to be driven by women who want to make a difference. These women support our motto of service not self. They want to be a part of an Organization that continues to advocate for our veterans; educate our citizens; mentor our youth; promote patriotism, good citizenship and peace and security. These women lead the steadfast commitment to our veterans and their families and our active duty military members. What is your Unit doing to support the Mission of the Auxiliary? How are you impacting your communities? Please share your activities and network with other organizations to get the word out about what you are doing that continues to make a difference. There continues to be women who would like to support our Mission but they don t really know we exist or what we really do. There have been suggestions made to use the local press, community billboards, electronic media & networking with friends and relatives. The month of June offers some unique opportunities to "work" the mission of our Organization. June 5 -"Army Registration Day'', anniversary of the draft- a project to recognize the members of our "volunteer'' Armed Forces; June 8-11th: "Rev's Run"- WI Legion Riders fundraising ride for the Legacy Scholarship Foundation. Please support in every way you can. June 14- Flag Day & Army Birthday; 18th is Fathers' Day and American Legion Family Day at King Veterans' Home; June 22 is the anniversary of the signing of the Gl Bill of Rights by President Roosevelt -continue to advocate for legislation that supports our veterans & our active duty members; June 26-100th anniversary of the first troops arriving in France to fight in WWI and June 28 will be 98th anniversary of the end of WWI. Please continue to honor our veterans and help tell their stories..."lest We Forget". Please wear Auxiliary apparel every chance you have. There is a wonderful Auxiliary logo that is magnetized which can be worn with any outfit. Let folks know who you are and carry along an application or two. Our communities need us, make no mistake about that. Without members, our very important work will not continue. Please continue to do all the wonderful work that you do and share that work with your communities. We appreciate all you do.and we need you.
