Academic Enhancement Program (AEP) Mission Charles B. Aycock JROTC will execute Operation Get Smart the Academic Enhancement Program for all Cadet s assigned to CBA JROTC in order to sustain essential academic skill sets and prepare for the ACT, SAT, ASVAB and mandated State Testing.* *The Army JROTC mandated curriculum will be taught as directed by Cadet Command. The Academic Enhancement Program is an extension of our CBA JROTC program implemented to support the academic and career development needs of our Cadet Corps. We soar for academic excellence
Academic Enhancement Program (AEP) Concept of the Program Five Phased Enduring Program Phase 1 (August 2012) Daily News & Word of the Day Sessions Phase 2 (January 2013) Leaders Essay Program & Peer to Peer Tutoring Program Phase 3 (August 2013) Golden Medallion Program, Khan Academy Math Assessment, Scholarship Preparation Program(ACT Preparation/Physical Fitness) & Today in History Review Phase 4 (January 2014) All March 2 Success Preparation Programs & Famous People in History Presentations Phase 4.5 (September 2014) ASVAB Preparation Program/Cadet Leaders must maintain a B in all classes Phase 5 (Spring 2017) Academic Enhancement Program Assessment of 2014 Fall Freshman Class (Cadets will be Juniors) State Test, ACT and ASVAB Scores and Scholarship Status
Academic Enhancement Program (AEP) Overview/Support Programs Administrative Overview Any Cadet can request tutoring at anytime. AEP currently in Phase 4.5 (Offline ASVAB support) Program is managed by a senior officer JROTC Cadet with the support of academic Cadet managers at the unit level assigned to each class period. Parent/Guardian will receive updates periodically on Cadets Progress and their Cadet s AEP test preparation schedule. Cadets AEP test preparation appointments are located on the AEP calendar located on the lower right of the JROTC homepage. Cadet Scholarship Preparation Program(SPP) SPP Cadets are screened and selected for program from all grade levels. Online Extensive Test Preparation Transcript Review and Tracking Cadet s are tracked extensively in all assigned classes. Parent/Guardian Updates Long Range Planning Calendar for each Cadet. Challenging Physical Fitness Program (Physically Tested Monthly) Peer to Peer Tutoring Program All Cadets in the Corps must show their progress reports to their designated JROTC Instructor. - Reports are stamped and signed by instructor - All Cadets in Leadership Positions must maintain at least a B in each class. - Instructor places initial by any class that has a grade of C or below and places the Cadet leader on probation. - Cadet is assigned a tutor based on the assessment of the instructor. Mandatory for all SPP Cadets with a grade of a C or below in any course. Tutoring is during the JROTC class period in the Cafeteria for 25 minutes (Monday-Thursday) All tutors are currently JROTC Cadets that demonstrated excellence in their designated subjects. Golden Medallion Program The Medallion symbolizes outstanding citizenship and commitment to academic excellence. Awarded to Cadets who successfully complete a set of qualification tests including both written and performance assessments. Cadets are also required to possess a high level of academic and self-discipline in order to maintain the privilege of wearing the Golden Medallion. Testing is conducted each semester. The program currently has a 10% passing rate.
Academic Enhancement Program Online Tools History of the Day Word of the Day JROTC WEBSITE Military Scholarships & College Test Preparation Tool Box Cadet AEP Scheduling Calendar March 2 Success Online Courses March 2 Success is an online program designed to provide test preparation (ASVAB, ACT, SAT). The program is located on the JROTC Webpage Military Scholarships & College Test Preparation Tool Box page. March 2 Success is composed of three primary preparation and testing sections. High School Math and Verbal Skills College Readiness Online Course ACT/SAT Practice Tests and Flashcards Khan Academy Online Program Extensive online tutoring program. Students use the extensive library of instruction videos to assist with understanding English, Math and Science content. Great tool to assist with test preparation (ASVAB, ACT, SAT). SPP Cadets must register and use the online math tutoring program which consist of adaptive assessment courses for personalized learning programs. Academic Enhancement Program Daily/Weekly /Monthly Overview News of The Day JROTC Website Driven Assist with ACT/SAT/ASVAB Test Preparation DAILY EVENTS History of the Day JROTC Website Driven Word of the Day JROTC Website Driven Assist with ACT/SAT/ASVAB Test Preparation Cadet Leaders Essay Program Weekly Quizzes Builds Vocabulary Emphasis is on Reading and Understanding Increases Knowledge of World Geography Increases Knowledge of World Leaders Increases Knowledge of World and Local Events Weekly Quizzes Teaches Civics Teaches World History Great tool for learning little know facts that affects Cadets Life's Today and the Future Increases Knowledge of World Geography Emphasizes Today s History can also be News of the Day Weekly Quizzes Builds Vocabulary Emphasis is on Reading and Understanding Definitions of words may have words or terms which Cadets have to research in order to have complete understanding of the Word of the Day All Cadets in leadership positions must write a two page essay monthly. Helps Cadets sustain their writing skills. All essays require research. Leaders are relieved of their positions for failure to comply. Famous People In History Presentations Weekly Assignments (Monday Wednesday) Cadets are randomly selected for this assignment. Three Cadets are selected each week to each provide a one paragraph overview of a famous person. Assignments are designated by the Army Instructors and coincide with National Commemorative Month s and/or National Holidays.
Academic Enhancement Program ACT/SAT/ASVAB Test Phase 1 High School Math and Verbal Skills Petersons Online Academic Skills Course (OASC) For Cadet s in Ninth and Tenth Grade Helps Cadets prepare for High School Exit Exams and ASVAB Covers knowledge from grades 5-12, but focuses primarily on grades Course is designed to brush up on your high school reading and math skills Pre-Assessment Test Verbal Math Personalized Learning Lesson Path Quizzes and Practice Tests covering high school level Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, and Math Post-Assessment Test Verbal Math Preparation (Slide 1 of 2) Phase 2 College Readiness Online Course Peterson's College Placement Skills Training (CPST) For Cadet s in Tenth and Eleventh Grade Helps Cadets prepare for ACT/SAT Practice Test and College Level Course Work 8-10. Covers knowledge covers material found in 8-12 grade curriculums with a strong focus on grades 11 and 12 Pre-Assessment Test English Writing Math College Level Math Personalized Learning Lesson Path Quizzes and Practice Test Post-Assessment Test English Writing Math College Level Math March 2 Success Online Courses Phase 3 ACT/SAT Practice Tests and Flashcards Peterson's Practice Tests for the ACT/SAT, * Extended Edition For Cadet s in Eleventh and Twelve Grade 7 full length practice tests for both the SAT and ACT Timed just as each section of the real test Each section can be reviewed after the section has been scored 25 decks of flashcards (20 Verbal and 5 Math) ranging in difficulty from easy to hard The flashcards show a word or term, computer will read it aloud and provide a definition Each deck of cards includes a game or quiz to review the terms you have just learned

Testing is conducting during JROTC Class periods. JROTC Calendar on Homepage contains AEP Schedule for each Cadet. Phase 1 (High School Math and Verbal Skills Assessment Test) is Mandatory for all Ninth Graders. All Phases are Mandatory for Scholarship Preparation Program Cadets. All Phases are Mandatory for Medallion Recipient Cadets. Military Enlisted career path offline ASVAB preparation is available to Cadets and students at CBA. Science Testing Preparation is available. Parent/Guardian updates periodically on Cadets Progress.
