Octopus Kids Nurturing Programme Curating our Smart City Drawing and Mobile Application Design Contest for Hong Kong Primary and Secondary Schools 2018 Contest Details Background Octopus Kids Nurturing Programme Curating our Smart City Drawing and Mobile Application Design Contest for Hong Kong Primary and Secondary Schools 2018 is co-organised by Octopus Cards Limited (OCL) and St. James' Settlement (SJS). Seeing the success of last year s inaugural contest, OCL and SJS will once again host the Contest for all primary and secondary school students, with a theme of Curating our Smart City, to promote the STEM education among the students in town. Objectives To echo the education sector s goal in advocating and promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), while supporting the HKSAR Government s policy in building Hong Kong a smart city; To offer an opportunity for primary and secondary students in Hong Kong to unleash their creativity and imagination, while fully utilising their STEM knowledge learnt in curating Hong Kong s blueprint as a smart city through their original works. The Contest will further realise the OKN programme s purpose in discovering students potential and talents. Theme Octopus Kids Nurturing Programme Curating our Smart City to let students exhibit their boundless imagination for creating Hong Kong s development blueprint as a smart city. Eligibility All primary and secondary school students in Hong Kong (Primary 1 - Form 6). Participants can join the Contest as individuals, or submit their applications through their respective schools. Categories and Requirements The Contest is divided into four bands. Participating students should submit their entries according to the requirements listed below. Primary Junior: P1 P3 and Primary Senior: P4 P6 1. Students to draw a picture on a white paper of A4 size or bigger, or via any digital applications (including but not limited to Paint, PowerPoint, or other electronic drawing tool) to depict the future city of Hong Kong. The creation is required to include at least one of the following elements: Smart living making people s everyday life easier 1

Smart mobility enhancement of the efficiency and service quality of urban transport 2. Email the creation (electronic file or scanned copy in JPG/PDF) to okncontest@octopus.com.hk, with the file name including Application number_english Name_Class. 3. The email should include the below information: Primary Junior Category: submit their entries with a description of maximum 50 words. (either Chinese or English) Primary Senior Category: submit their entries with a description of maximum 100 words. (either Chinese or English) The (i) application number; (ii) Chinese name; (iii) English name; (iv) participating category; (v) class; and (vi) school name in English. Secondary Junior: S1 S3 and Secondary Senior: S4 S6 1. Upon successful application, a proposal template will be sent to the contestant s email. Contestant needs to submit a proposal on or before 20 April 2018 to outline the concept and report their progress. 2. Students to design and develop a mobile application to depict Hong Kong as a smart city. The design is required to include at least one of the following elements: Smart living making people s everyday life easier Smart mobility enhancement of the efficiency and service quality of urban transport 3. Contestants are required to upload their creation to a cloud drive, and send the download link to okncontest@octopus.com.hk with the following requirements: Submit the completed mobile application in ipa or apk format, with file name including Application number_english Name_Class ; Submit the source files needed for the operation of the mobile application, including source code, header files, libraries, image files, data files and other relevant files and commands used during the 2

development (if any); Submit a simple PowerPoint document (maximum 20 pages in Chinese or English) to explain the mobile application s design objectives, concepts, applications and benefits, etc. In the cover email, please include the (i) application number; (ii) Chinese name; (iii) English name; (iv) participating categories; (v) class; and (vi) school name in English. 4. Finalists will be notified by end of May to join the judging day to present the works in front of the judges on 29 May 2018, and to compete for the Most Popular Creation. Method of Application Students can join the Contest as individuals or through their respective schools. Deadline of Creation Submission Please submit the creation on or before 18 May 2018 (Friday). Late or duplicate submissions will not be entertained. 3

Judging The judging panel consists of professionals from the government, FinTech, academic, social welfare and parenting sectors. The list of the judging panel is as follows: - Dr Chi-hing Kee, Co-opted Members of The Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund Task Force, Commission on Poverty - Hon Charles Mok, Legislative Councillor (IT) - Dr Ray Cheung, Associate Professor of Department of Electronic Engineering, College of Science & Engineering at City University of Hong Kong - Ms Smile Cheung, Founder of Smile Training & Development, Veteran Journalist - Mr Francis Fong, Honorary President of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation - Dr Kam-tim Woo, Associate Professor of Engineering Education, Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology - Dr William Yu, CEO of World Green Organisation - Representatives from OCL and SJS The contest is divided into preliminary and final rounds. Finalists of Secondary Junior and Senior are required to attend a final judging session on 29 May 2018 to present their entries concepts and applications to the judges. Details of the final judging session will be announced separately to individual finalists and their respective schools. Judging Criteria Primary Junior: P1 P3 and Primary Senior: P4 P6 Secondary Junior: S1 S3 and Secondary Senior: S4 S6 Design creativity and imagination Composition and use of colours Relevance to the theme and application of STEM knowledge Concept of the App Design and creativity of the App Development and composition of the App Relevance to the theme and application of the STEM knowledge Most Popular Creation Most Active Participation Shortlisted creations with the highest number of votes on Facebook Schools with the highest number of participating students 4

Prizes Primary Junior: P1 P3 and Primary Senior: P4 P6 Secondary Junior: S1 S3 and Secondary Senior: S4 S6 Most Popular Creation Champion, 1 st and 2 nd Runners-up: Personalised Octopus; STEM Class; Book Coupons Merits : Book Coupons and Certificate Champion, 1 st and 2 nd Runners-up: Personalised Octopus; South Korea Study Tour; Book Coupons Merits: Book Coupons and Certificate One winner per category. Winner in the Primary category will receive a free STEM class; that in the secondary category will be invited to the South Korea study tour. Most Active Participation One winning school per category. Winning schools will be gifted a STEM class. All participating schools will receive a certificate of appreciation. Results Announcement Finalists in Secondary Category will be notified by end of May to compete for the Most Popular Creation, and join the judging day to present the works in front of the judges on 29 May 2018. Winners will be notified on 6 June 2018 (Wednesday) via email or phone calls to students or their respective schools. Rules and Regulations There is no limit to the number of participating students in each school, but each participating student can only submit one entry. All submissions must be original and created by the participating student. Any plagiarism found shall lead to disqualification of the participant. Participants are advised to retain a duplicate copy of their submissions in case of any loss or damage of the entries caused by unforeseen conditions. All entries must have not been submitted to any other contests or used for other purposes before, otherwise the submission will be made invalid. The contest results will be subject to the judging panel s final deliberation and assessment. No objection will be entertained. In case of disputes, the decision of the organiser shall prevail. All prizes given out by the organiser are non-transferable, non-refundable and non-exchangeable for cash or other service(s). 5

Intellectual Property Rights All submissions must be original and free from infringement of any existing intellectual property rights. The participants shall bear full legal and related responsibilities arising from any possible breach of intellectual property rights in respect of their entries, and shall indemnify the organisers and other concerned parties against any claims and liabilities arising from any such breach. If a participant is found to have disposed of to a third party, such as by assignment, transfer or provision as security, or is making application or registration procedures, etc., for all or any part of the intellectual property rights or any other rights concerning the submitted entry after the submission, the submission will be made invalid. By joining the contest, the participants agree to accept that the organisers have the right to display or publish selected entries from the contest for the following (but not limited to) purposes: (i) printed publication (ii) online publication (iii) media interview (iv) advertorial (v) offline and online promotion (vi) roadshow and (vii) any other media. Use of Personal Information Any information supplied by the participants for the purpose of the contest will be treated as confidential, and will not be released by the organisers and any third parties without the participant's permission. Personal information of participants will only be used for communications regarding the submission and selection and otherwise to the extent necessary for administrative matters for the selection.
