PURPOSE AAMA s Yolanda Black Navarro Scholarship Fund is available to provide financial assistance to individuals enrolled in undergraduate study in community colleges, trade schools and universities. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE is based on financial need, academic performance and leadership potential. SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS For the 2018 2019 school year, AAMA will award scholarships on the basis of a comprehensive process. Areas that are reviewed by the committee include, but are not limited to the following: Academic Accomplishments Community Service Recommendations Personal Essay and Financial Need Yolanda Black Navarro Scholarship Fund shall pay the recipient s school directly. The annual scholarship awards are divided into two disbursements on a semester basis as long as the student maintains a 2.0 GPA (C average) for the preceding semester. The Yolanda Black Navarro Scholarship is awarded without regard to race, color, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. Scholarships are intended to be used for tuition, fees, books and on campus housing. Funds for off campus housing is not allowed. Scholarships awarded are based upon the availability of funds and additional qualifying criteria. The Yolanda Black Navarro Scholarship requires a commitment of volunteer hours to AAMA yearly prior to each semester disbursement. Yolanda Black Navarro Scholarship 2018 CRITERIA Applicants must have attended Sanchez Charter School, Houston, Texas. Applicants must be completing or have completed high school successfully with a minimum unweighted GPA of at least 2.0. Applicants must provide written verification of acceptance at a community college, university, or trade school program for the upcoming fall of 2018 academic semester. Applicants must demonstrate a need for financial assistance in accordance to the Student Aid Report (SAR). The recipient is expected to fulfill two (2) volunteer days at AAMA yearly (one day in the fall and one in the spring prior to the class start date). Student must apply for the 2018-2019 Federal Student Aid Application (FAFSA) or Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). Student must submit a copy of their 2018-2019 (SAR) or copy of the (TASFA) application. Applicants must complete and submit a scholarship application by March 9, 2018 Scholarship disbursements will be made for the spring 2019 semester only after grades from the fall 2018 semester are received and volunteer service hours have been completed and verified. TIMELINE Applications are due March 9, 2018. Applicants are notified if awarded a scholarship via the email address you include in the application. All required documentation for the fall disbursement must be submitted to AAMA prior to September 1, 2018 or awarded funds will not be paid.
