St Ronans is a care home registered with the Care Quality Commission providing nursing and personal care for up to 33 older people. The home is three large, four storey Victorian houses that were converted to a care home a number of years ago. The home is located in a residential area of Southsea in close proximity to the seafront and local shops and is within easy access to Portsmouth city and the local hospitals. Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We have sent out the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) to the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information about the service once completed and returned to us. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service; these are called 'notifications' and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report. What has this told us about the service? We sent out the AQAA that the registered person is required to return to us on completion within a stipulated time frame. We received the AQAA at the time of sending out the final review. The AQAA contained good information about the service and their plans for the next twelve months. The registered person sends us notifications to keep us informed of incidences that are detrimental to the welfare of people accommodated at the service. This included a safeguarding referral that was made to the appropriate authority for investigation. The AQAA shows that some of the improvements that the service has achieved in the last twelve months include the statement of purpose, service users guide and the care needs assessment tool that have been reviewed. This states that the computer system for care planning is fully utilised by all staff. All care needs assessment visits are carried out by two registered nurses to ensure no information is overlooked during the visit. The service has introduced a nutritional assessment tool. The AQAA states that the assessment documentation has been improved and is now more personcentred. Changes have been made to the medication and infection control procedures. At the last inspection the home was rated as good and there was one requirement relating to the management of the service users medications. The AQAA shows that the home has in place an ongoing training programme for the staff and staff have undertaken an update on legislation regarding medicines. The service has a registered manager and registered nurses providing cover twenty four hours to support the service users care needs. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are keeping to our plan and will do a key inspection as per our scheduled inspection plan. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 5
