The deadline for entries will be March 1, 2018. The judging will take place solely on March 5, 2018. The winners will be notified the following week and arrangements will be made for them to visit the station to do a winner s interview, promotional spot and receive a tour. A banquet will be held for the winning students, their teacher, parent(s), non-profit organizations that were highlighted in the entries and the sponsor partner companies on March 28, 2018. Winners need not be present at the interview, promotional spot, tour or banquet and are still eligible to win. c. Each entry will be judged on the written public service announcement (PSA). The charity/nonprofit that is featured in the PSA will not be influential in the decision by the judges. If a student decides to include video, judges will not be required to judge it, but it may be helpful for the student to display their vision of the PSA. Judges will score each entry based on several factors. Is the entry well written, correct spelling, consistent flow. Did the judge understand the message of the PSA, was it clear. Did the entry show creativity and originality, did the student use his/her imagination in coming up with the proposed PSA? Lastly, how does the written PSA fit the organization, is it focused on their causes and goals? These are the criteria that will be used for judging. If there is a tie in the numerical score for two particular entries, a tie will be broken by having each judge rescore both entries ranking them in the order of number one and number two number one being the judge s top choice. d. A select group of judges will score the entries. The judges will be divided into two teams. In round one, each team will read half of the received entries and the teams will score the entries based upon the above guidelines. The top fifteen entries from each team will then move on to the second round. In the second round, all the judges will read and score the top 30 entries. The winner will be the entry receiving the highest score in the second round. The first runner up will be the entry with the second highest score so on and so forth. In the case of a tie, each judge will re-judge the tying entries and determine which one he/she likes the best. The entry with the most votes will win the tie break.
e. There are no names, schools or any other identifying marks on the entries. Judges will score entries based on elements such as creativity, originality, messaging, flow, focus and spelling. f. The odds of winning or being one of the winners in the WKBN 27 Caring for Our Community Tom Holden Memorial Scholarship Contest depend on the number of entries received. g. Winner does not need to be present to win. h. Winners will be selected on Monday, March 5, 2018. They will then be notified via phone sometime during the following week. Winners will be contacted via the information (phone and email) that they include on the scholarship entry form on WKBN.com. If a potential winner cannot be contacted, fails to sign and return the required affidavit of eligibility and/or liability/publicity release within the required time period, or if a prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, potential winner forfeits prize.
