Students from schools throughout Jefferson County got to attend the 4-H Reality Store. Participants looked at careers, families, and budgets. They put their minds into action as they decided on "real life" decisions using their budgeting skills. Students learned the importance of saving money and the value of education. Some of the schools participating this year: Phoenix School of Discovery Olmsted South Academy Boys Haven Central High School Southern High School Newburg Middle School

HELP US RAISE SOME GREEN! For 24 years, the Roy Strange Memorial 4-H Golf Scramble has been raising funds for Jefferson County 4-H. This money supports the educational programming and clubs that you love. You can help us make it the best year yet! If you are a business owner, consider becoming a hole sponsor for only $125, put together a team and play for $600 or consider donating a gift card or another item of value from your business. Contact our office if you are interested or if you know if someone that we should contact about a donation. Without this funding, we wouldn t be able to provide the quality and quantity of programs that we do. That s why we call it a round of golf that does a world of good! JOIN THE 4-H FASHION LEADERSHIP BOARD The Kentucky 4-H Fashion Leadership Board is looking for a few good teenagers with a passion for style, clothing and fun. The Fashion Board is open to individuals who will be in the ninth through 12th grades during the 2016-2017 school year. Applicants must be working on a 4-H project in a fashion-related area. The young people selected will have the opportunity to improve their personal skills and gain awareness of the variety of available fashion industry-related careers. These young leaders will promote 4-H fashion projects within their home county and must participate in family and consumer sciences day at the Kentucky State Fair in August. This past year was the second year for the board. Board members met throughout the year to learn about aspects of the fashion industry including design, color theory, product development, production, fabric identification and quality assessment. The group taught three workshops at 4-H Teen Summit about apparel and textiles. They are also in charge of planning, scripting and leading educational sessions during the 4-H Fashion Revue, which is their capstone project in June. The revue gives young Kentuckians the opportunity to model their clothing creations. New board members will be announced during 4-H Teen Conference in June, and their term will begin in July. Applications are due to the state 4-H office, May 1. For an application, contact Kelly Smith, 4-H Agent at 502-569-2344.

T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST OPEN TO 4-H ERS Contact: Fernanda Camargo, Equine Extension Specialist Young artists and horse enthusiasts alike have the opportunity to make their mark on the 2016 Kentucky 4-H Horse Show by designing the event s T-shirt. Every summer, the 4-H State Horse Show brings nearly 2,000 people to Louisville. It is the culminating event for the horse project as more than 900 Kentucky 4-H ers showcase skills they and their horses have learned during the year. The T-shirts are sold during the event. Proceeds from the T-shirt sales benefit the Kentucky 4-H Horse Scholarship Fund, which gives college scholarships to Kentucky high school seniors who are 4-H horse program members. Contest entrants must be between 9 and 18 and submit either original artwork or unlicensed clip art. The winner will receive $50. Please follow these rules for the design: 1. Use clean lines or solid shapes. No shading or grayscale. 2. Ensure drawings are print ready. 3. Choose a theme that is tasteful, reflective of the spirit of the 4-H State Horse Show and meaningful to most 4-H members and their families. 4. Include a theme phrase in the design. 5. Color designs are accepted but may not be printed in color. T-shirt design contest judges and the printer have the final option. Contest entrants are encouraged to make their color suggestions known when they submit the design. Submit designs by May 15 to the Kentucky 4-H Horse Program, 615 W. P. Garrigus Building, Lexington, KY 40546-0215. For more information on the local 4-H horse program, contact Willie Howard at 569-2344. 4-H, UPTOWN ART & S.E.T. Jefferson County 4-H will be visiting Uptown Art Studio on June 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. to work on new projects! 4-H ers will work with a professionally trained artist to paint a Rocking Robot as well as participate in a fun science, engineering, and technology project with a motion commotion lesson! Cost is $25 which includes lunch, supplies, and instruction. Please contact the office at 569-2344 to RSVP. SPACE IS LIMITED!

A GREAT WAY TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT! During the month of April, Kentucky 4-H will be having a friendly competition between counties to see how many Friends & Alumni we can get. The competition will run from April 1-31, 2016. The 4-H Agent(s) in the county with the most Friends & Alumni submitted will receive a $100 Visa Gift Card. The registration cards with payment must be postmarked by April 31st to be eligible for this competition. You can even take them up in your office and submit them all together for your county. Our goal is 300 new/returning Friends & Alumni; that is $6,000 total with $3,000 going back to the counties. To reach that goal, each county only needs to get 3 new/returning Friends & Alumni. This is an EASY opportunity for Jefferson County to increase funds for our programs. Friends & Alumni is great way for individuals to reconnect and stay in touch with what is happening in Kentucky 4-H! Participation is $20 per year of which $10 can be designated to the county of your choice. Friends & Alumni is paid on a calendar year basis. Anyone can join! I have attached a letter explaining the program and a registration card. All registration cards with payment should be mailed to: Kentucky 4- H Foundation, 212 Scovell Hall, Lexington, KY 40546-0064. Again, the competition will run from April 1-31st; all registration cards with payment must be post marked by April 31st to be counted in the competition. If you have any questions or need additional information please do not hesitate to contact the 4-H Office to speak with a 4-H agent. Thank you for your support and GOOD LUCK to Jefferson County 4-H!
