Clendening Library & Museum and the KUMC Archives Exhibits: Civil War: Women & Medicine During the Civil War women were instrumental in keeping the home and hearth together as well as tending to the sick and injured in hospitals and camps. They not only read the letters from their loved ones, they later published accounts of their experiences during the war. Georgia Holland Research lab The research in this lab focuses on improving the health and wellness of people with chronic disease or disability by assessing body composition, muscle strength and endurance, and aerobic fitness. This was one of the largest battles fought west of the Mississippi River with over 30,000 men engaged.
