Overview General Eligibility In order to qualify for scholarships, you must meet the following criteria: 1. Be admitted into an approved undergraduate or graduate program in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. 2. Have completed a FASFA for the current academic year. 3. Meet any additional criteria that are specific to the scholarships for which you wish to be considered. Major Related Criteria Any scholarship criteria that mentions enrollment in a specific major as condition for eligibility, requires that you be admitted to the major. Any scholarship that mentions preference given to US citizens or Permanent US residents as condition for eligibility requires that you show proof of citizenship or permanent residence in the United States. Financial Need requirements Some scholarships require that you have a financial need (as defined by the Office of Financial Aid at UGA) at the time the scholarship is awarded. 2015-2016 Athena award letters may not be available before scholarship applications are due. Accordingly, 2014-2015 award letters are acceptable. However, a 2015-2016 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be completed to be considered for all scholarships Additionally, the following scholarships are open only to students who have an established financial need and require submission of an Athena award letter and a FAFSA student aid report (SAR). Nickols International Study Award Zena Costa Brown International Study Award Scholarship List Undergraduate Leonora Anderson Scholarship (Established 1984) This scholarship is available to FACS undergraduate students. Selection is based on academic achievement and demonstrated financial need. Zena Costa Brown Scholarship (Established 2005) This scholarship is for an undergraduate student majoring in Family & Consumer Sciences. Criteria for the scholarship will be based on merit. Dean s Academic Excellence Scholarship (Established 2013) This scholarship is available for sophomores with application for continuing renewal for the junior year. Applicants must be enrolled in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences, with a selected FACS major, and a minimum of 15 hours at UGA and a minimum GPA of 3.0 at time of application. A student enrolled as a freshman (first year) majoring in any BS degree program in the FACS college is eligible to apply for this scholarship to be provided during their sophomore year. Comer Scholarship Fund (Established 1986) This scholarship is open to any student, undergraduate or graduate, enrolled in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Student must have demonstrated financial need. Iris Price Dover Scholarship (Established 2005) This scholarship is for any student, graduate or undergraduate, in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Marion Louise Price Elkin Scholarship (Established 1984) This scholarship is available to undergraduate students at the College of FACS. Selection is based equally 3

upon academic achievement and demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students from Washington, Johnson, and Toombs counties. Pearce L. and Mary Wells Elkins Scholarship (Established 1990) Family & Consumer Sciences. Julia Ann Simpson Elliott Scholarship (Established 2013) This scholarship is available to an undergraduate student at FACS with a minimum 2.75 GPA. Preference will be given to students transferring from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) or students from Colquitt, Coffee, or Johnson counties. Hazel and Gene Franklin Scholarship (Established 1976) Family & Consumer Sciences. Gladys F. (Nannie) Nesbitt/Flatt Academic Achievement Fund (Established 2012) This scholarship is for undergraduate students pursuing a degree in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. The selection will be made based on merit, service, and involvement in extracurricular activities such as student governance and leadership. Financial need may be one of the criteria used in making the selection. Preference will be given to students studying nutrition, but other majors related to the food industry will be acceptable. Nancy Hailey and Mary Strickland Hailey Scholarship Fund (Established 1985) This scholarship is available to any student, undergraduate or graduate, in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Doe Harden Scholarship (Established 2001) Family & Consumer Sciences. Criteria for selection will be based on outstanding academic performance, professional potential, and student leadership. Preference will be given to individuals with an outstanding 4-H background. Financial need will be a primary consideration. Grace Hartley Scholarship (Established 1972) This scholarship is available to any student, graduate or undergraduate, in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences with an interest in journalism. Opal Ward Jones Scholarship (Established 1994) This scholarship is for a junior at FACS with a minimum 3.5 GPA, and a minimum of 30-hours (or semester equivalent) of work as a student registered in the college. Students should have demonstrated leadership potential through professional and campus activities. Virginia Willbanks Kilgore (Established 1983) This scholarship is available to any student, graduate or undergraduate, in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. 4

Rosabelle Carr Koelsche Scholarship (Established 1983) This scholarship is available to any student, graduate or undergraduate, in the College of Family & Consumer Economics. Marian Chesnut McCullers Scholarship (Established 2005) This scholarship is available to a graduate or undergraduate student in the College of Family & Consumer Economics. Preference will be given, but not limited to, students in the Department of Financial Planning, Housing and Consumer Economics. Mize-Infinity Scholarship (Established 2010) This scholarship is for an undergraduate student enrolled in the Department of Financial Planning, Housing and Consumer Economics. Eligible students must be from the state of Georgia. George Griffeth and Leolene Chapman Montgomery Scholarship (Established 1987) This scholarship is for a student, undergraduate or graduate, in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Financial need must be demonstrated. Gwendolyn Brooks O Connell Scholarship Fund (Established 1988) This scholarship is for any student, graduate or undergraduate, in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Emily Quinn Pou and Joe (J.W.) Pou Scholarship (Established 1986) This scholarship is available to any student, undergraduate or graduate enrolled in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Melynda Flatt Reid Dietetics Scholarship (Established 2010) This scholarship is for an undergraduate student in dietetics in the Department of Foods & Nutrition. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who has demonstrated leadership and service with the University of Georgia. GPA may also be considered. Elise B. Richey Scholarship (Established 2008) This scholarship is available to both undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Students who are members of a fraternity or sorority are not eligible. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Pam McIntyre Thompson, R.D. Scholarship (Established 1990) This scholarship is available to a student in their Junior and/or Senior year majoring in Dietetics and Institution Management or successor major who is also Georgia resident. Nancy Virginia Price Turner Scholarship (Established 1984) This scholarship is for an undergraduate student in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences and will be awarded based equally upon academic achievement and demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to applicants from Washington, Johnson and Oglethorpe counties. 5

Marian Wang Scholarship (Established 1994) This scholarship is for a student, graduate or undergraduate, whose focus is in the area o dietetics within the Department of Foods and Nutrition. Students in other areas of the department may also be considered. Whitlock Family Scholarship (Established 2008) This scholarship is for any student in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Preference will be given, but not limited to, an undergraduate student in the Department of Human Development and Family Science. Karin E. Willis Scholarship (Established 1995) This scholarship is for a graduate or undergraduate student in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 and the scholarship will be renewable. Preference will be given to student athletes, including cheerleaders. Graduate Glenn and Helen Burton Feeding the Hungry Scholarship (Established 1996) This scholarship is for a doctoral student holding an assistantship whose research involves human nutrition. Comer Scholarship Fund (Established 1986) This scholarship is open to any student, undergraduate or graduate, enrolled in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Student must have demonstrated financial need. Eleonora M. Costa Graduate Support Fund (Established 2007) This fund is to provide graduate support to a student in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Karen R. Davis Scholarship (Established 2002) This scholarship is for a graduate student in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences whose focus in children and families. Preference will be given, but not limited to, students who plan a career in Developmental Therapy/Developmental Teaching. Recipients may be M.S. or Ph.D students Iris Price Dover Scholarship (Established 2005) This scholarship is for any student, graduate or undergraduate, in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. 6

Pearce L. and Mary Wells Elkins Scholarship (Established 1990) Family & Consumer Sciences. June and Bill Flatt Nutrition Excellence Award (Established 1998) This scholarship is for a graduate student studying human nutrition or other majors related to the food industry in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Recipients will have demonstrated service and involvement in extracurricular activities such as student governance and leadership. Recipients will have excelled academically, have strong research interests and competencies, and show promise of professional leadership. Special consideration will be given to past recipients of the Gladys F. (Nannie) Nesbitt/Flatt Education Scholarship (for undergraduate students). Hazel and Gene Franklin Scholarship (Established 1976) Family & Consumer Sciences. Anne and Earl Haltiwanger (Established 2006) This scholarship is available to any graduate student in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Nancy Hailey and Mary Strickland Hailey Scholarship Fund (Established 1985) This scholarship is available to any student, undergraduate or graduate, in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Sharon Boone Hamner Foods and Nutrition Scholarship (Established 2006) This scholarship is for a graduate student in the Department of Foods and Nutrition who is creative in the use of animal models to study human diseases. While financial need should be a consideration, scholarly excellence professional promise and leadership demonstration should be first considered. Preference will be given to a United States citizen. Scholarship is renewable for a second year if the recipient remains eligible. Doe Harden Scholarship (Established 2001) Family & Consumer Sciences. Criteria for selection will be based on outstanding academic performance, professional potential, and student leadership. Preference will be given to individuals with an outstanding 4-H background. Financial need will be a primary consideration. Grace Hartley Scholarship (Established 1972) This scholarship is available to any student, graduate or undergraduate, in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences with an interest in journalism. Betty Lane Graduate Scholarship (Established 2008) This scholarship is for a graduate student in the Department of Financial Planning, Housing and Consumer Economics at the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Marian Chesnut McCullers Scholarship (Established 2005) This scholarship is available to a graduate or undergraduate student in the College of Family & Consumer Economics. Preference will be given, but not limited to, students in the Department of Financial Planning, Housing and Consumer Economics. Leolene Chapman Montgomery Scholarship (Established 1987) This scholarship is for a student, undergraduate or graduate, in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Financial need must be demonstrated. Ruth Rowan Morrison Scholarship (Established 2008) This scholarship is for a graduate student in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences studying nutrition. Gwendolyn Brooks O Connell Scholarship Fund (Established 1988) This scholarship is for any student, graduate or undergraduate, in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Emily Quinn Pou and Joe (J.W.) Pou Scholarship (Established 1986) This scholarship is available to any student, undergraduate or graduate enrolled in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Elise B. Richey Scholarship (Established 2008) This scholarship is available to both undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Students who are members of a fraternity or sorority are not eligible. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. L. Frank and Georgia D. Rodgers Graduate Student Award (Established 2010) The purpose of this fund is to provide a graduate award for a student in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. Preference will be given, but is not limited to, those majoring in Housing or in Furnishings & Interiors. Financial need shall be a factor, but should not be considered the primary criteria. Elizabeth T. Sheerer Graduate Scholarship (Established 1996) This scholarship is available to a graduate student in the Department of Human Development & Family Science. Recipients shall have excelled academically, have strong research interests and competencies, and show promise and leadership for the professional field in family and consumer sciences. 8

Marian Wang Scholarship (Established 1994) This scholarship is for a student, graduate or undergraduate, whose focus is in the area o dietetics within the Department of Foods and Nutrition. Betty Carico Williams International Study Scholarship This scholarship is for an Undergraduate student in FACS majoring in Fashion Merchandising. Betty Davison Garcia International Study Award This scholarship is for any Undergraduate or Graduate student in FACS. Financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid at UGA will be considered. Betty Sewell Ragland International Study Award This scholarship is for any Undergraduate or Graduate student in FACS who exhibits potential for becoming a leader within the FACS profession. Financial need will also be considered. Claudia Stowers Noell International Study Award This scholarship is for any Undergraduate or Graduate student in FACS. Financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid at UGA will be considered. Glenn Burton International Study Award This scholarship is for any Undergraduate or Graduate student in FACS with a preference given to Foods and Nutrition majors. Grace Hartley International Study Award This scholarship is for any Undergraduate or Graduate Consumer Journalism student in FACS. Mcgill and Dean Family International Study Award This scholarship is for any Undergraduate or Graduate FACS student. Financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid at UGA will be considered. Sally Schley Stith International Study Award 9

This scholarship is for any Undergraduate or Graduate FACS student. Student must demonstrate proven financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid at UGA. Sarah L. Huff International Study Award This scholarship is for any Undergraduate or Graduate FACS student. Sharon Y. Nickols International Study Award This scholarship is for any Undergraduate or Graduate FACS student. Financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid at UGA will be considered. Zena Costa Brown International Study Award This scholarship is for any Undergraduate or Graduate FACS student. Awards will be based on merit. Financial need will be considered. 10

Application Instructions For all scholarships: The application is available now online for Education Abroad Scholarships for Maymester and Summer 2015 trips. Paper applications will not be accepted. Apply here: http://www.fcs.uga.edu/ssac/scholarships-international-study-award-application Deadline for Education abroad scholarships: 5:00 pm on Friday, January 9, 2015. The application for Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships will be available online by December 1, 2014 for the 2015-2016 Academic Year. Paper applications will not be accepted. Deadline for Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships: 5:00 pm on February, 13, 2015. 11

Frequently Asked Questions 1. I m applying to multiple scholarships. Do I need to write a separate essay for each one? No. You should only submit one essay that address all the relevant criteria for the scholarships for which you wish to be considered. 2. Who will I ask to write my recommendation letters? Recommendation letters may be written by faculty, or professionals who can attest to your character and quality of work. There is not a set criterion for who you should ask. However, it s advisable to request letters from individuals who know you well and are likely to write a strong recommendation. 3. How do I know if a recommendation letter has been submitted? A confirmation email will be sent to the referee and applicant within 48 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) of the time the letter is received by the Dean Office (224 Dawson Hall). 4. Does the deadline apply to the online application form only? No. the deadline applies to all components of your application, including recommendation letters. All application forms and supporting documentation must be received, by the deadline established in the application form. 5. How will I be notified of the application outcome? All students who submit a complete application will received a letter or an email, notifying of the results, in May 2015. Education Abroad scholarship recipients will be notified in March 2015 by mail. 6. What is the amount of the scholarships? The number of scholarship awards and the amount will depend on the availability of funds. 7. Who will I contact if I need additional questions?
