Insight articles Funding Insight deepens Research Fortnight s coverage of the activity of major funders. We drill down from the strategic issues on the chief executive s desk to the critical detail handled by programme managers, strengthening your grip on the factors that make the difference between success and failure. Insight articles help you decide whether to apply for a particular funding scheme, and then to make a better application. They include interviews with funders, past winners and members of assessment panels. They help researchers quickly: Focus on the key questions funders want answered Identify assessment methods, and the people making the decisions (where available) Appreciate the plus and minus points (e.g. good cost recovery vs demanding application form). An example is How to apply to run an NIHR Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care. Everything you need to know about major funders in one place, including additional insight articles Insight articles are usually exclusive and include: Updates on calls yet to be opened Reports from town hall meetings, such as a one where global health funders including DFID, the Gates Foundation and the Wellcome Trust outlined their 2013 priorities Funders such as Leverhulme Trust director Gordon Marshall explaining what they look for in successful applications Changes to funder terms and conditions Horizon scans of the key questions in hot fields such as synthetic biology, or nanotechnology. The focus is on the drivers that will lead a funder to accept some bids and reject others. 4 Hidden structure in the Engineering & Physical Hub
