THE DUCK CALL ALPHA OMICRON CHAPTER OF PI KAPPA ALPHA
SCHOLARS This semester, the Alpha Omicron Pikes wasted no time achieving academic success. For example, Brother Sebastian Gualy was recently accepted into the prestigious Johns Hopkins medical school. Brother Gualy s acceptance, while impressive, is no doubt a result of his hard work, determination, and equally impressive MCAT score, which was in the top 99 th percentile of MCAT test takers. However, the success of Alpha Omicron does not stop there, as Brother Aaron Garcia and Brother Michael Gallegos recently presented their undergraduate research at the Society for Personality and Social Psychology Annual Convention. This national convention held in San Antonio welcomes the elite Social Psychologists, along with the research of brilliant, young minds. As of now, Brother Gallegos s research is expected to be published in an academic journal for psychology. Also, continuing the academic success of Alpha Omicron, Brother Kyle Anderson has embarked on an independent study where he has created his own high school course curriculum, in order to teach philosophy targeting at-risk youth and marginalized groups. In addition to the success of previously mentioned brothers, several other brothers participated in internships to gain career experience and better their futures. To name a few, Brother Jared Welsh held an internship with Fogel Capital Management Inc. and Brother Mickey Scharbrough completed an internship with Saint David s. These scholars will continue, along with the other active brothers of the chapter, to exemplify the excellence that Alpha Omicron seeks to maintain. LEADERS At the start of the new year, and another college semester, Pikes at Southwestern University continue to be leaders on campus and shape the college community in effective and beneficial ways. For example, Brother Kevin Guzman recently earned the position of SHARP Coordinator, the highest position a student can hold in the Admissions Office, joining longtime SHARP Coordinator, Brother Sebastian Gualy. In addition, six brothers are Residential Assistants throughout campus, while two more brothers are Head Residential Assistants, who oversee an entire residence hall and its respective staff members. Also, we have 7 brothers in Student Government Association, and 2 brothers in Student Foundation, who will continue to promote good relations with SU administration. Below is a condensed list of extracurricular organizations that our brothers have recently participated in: Residential Assistants (RA) Head RA SHARP Coordinators - Nnamdi Akabogu - Michael Kitner - Sebastian Gualy - Winston Cook - Karrey Sanders - Kevin Guzman - Sebastian Gualy - Kevin Guzman - Kai Knight-Turcan - Jared Welsh Student Government Student Foundation - Kyle Anderson Senior Class Representative - Winston Cook - Oscar Barbour President - Elijah Velasquez - Winston Cook Fine Arts Representative - Sam Cox Sophomore Class Representative - Shelby Hall Senior Class Representative - Matt Sluss Natural Science Representative - Elijah Velasquez Sophomore Class Representative ATHLETES Alpha Omicron Pikes have continued to garner success in the athletic field. Recently, Brother Tyler Gammill (Golf) earned the SCAC Player of the Year award. In addition, multiple brothers earned their conference rings for golf after their dominant performance in the SCAC Conference Championship. In other sports news, Brothers Chris Luca, Nicholas Swope and Tommy Angeloni played on the Conference-winning Southwestern football team. In only 4 short years, the SU football team ended with the best conference record this season, along with the help of Brother Luca, Brother Swope, Brother Angeloni, and the rest of the team. With other sports teams starting their seasons soon, one can expect more achievements and accolades from Pikes in the athletic department.

Brother Lucas Evans (Civil Service Chair), along with the help of other actives and AO 17 pledges, volunteered with underprivileged youth from New Orleans at Camp Balcones Springs in Austin, Texas. As a whole, the chapter gained 80 service hours within the first few weeks of the semester. Brother Evans has scheduled several other civil service events where Pikes will continue to benefit the local community, including donations that will go towards a local child in need of a lung transplant. After initiating the largest Fall pledge class (6 members) on campus for Fall 2016, Alpha Omicron set their sights this semester on a large Spring pledge class. Fortunately, a large pledge class is exactly what we gained this semester with 23 young men signing their bid to pledge Pi Kappa Alpha. Once again, this pledge class is the biggest one on campus for Spring 2017, and one of the largest that Pike has had in recent years. Our most recent pledge class shows promise and a desire to be a part of the most successful fraternity on Southwestern s campus. Pictured (left): AO 17 Pledge Class
