Seminars / Exhibitions DICE 2011 DICE the Digital Innovation, International Conference and Exhibition took place on November 22-23, 2011 at UET Peshawar. EE Department students participated in DICE 2011 got the Third position in all Pakistan Projects Competition. The project title was, Intelligent pipe inspection robot for industrial application. FYP Selection Seminar October 13, 2011 a seminar FYP: Selection, Execution and Presentation was conducted by MRCN group. Dr. Ali Nawaz from WSN and Mr. Usman Rafiq from MRCN were among the speakers. The seminar was aimed at guiding the students of 7th and 8th semester in selecting the project sensibly, executing it systematically, and presenting eloquently. Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat has been an Invited Speaker at DICE 2011, held at UET, Peshawar and delivered a talk on, Passive Optical Networks Seminar on Microwave Filter Design November 03, 2011, Control Power Computing (CPC) Research Group EE organized the seminar on Microwave Filter Designing in Seminar room Block-A. Engr. Ahmed Mudassir, Head CPC, EE chaired the seminar and Engr. Muhammad Ali, Assistant Professor, EE was the instructor. MoMo October 17, 2011, Seminar on Mobile Monday, MoMo is an open community platform to share the latest developments and ideas in Mobile Industry. A series of seminars by the guest speakers from CIIT, Islamabad and speakers from EE Department, CIIT Lahore were organized on Monday, dated: Oct. 17, 2011 at Seminar room block A. Seminar on Challenged Heterogeneous Networks September 22, 2011, Dr. Naveed Bin Rais, Assistant Professor, gave the seminar on Challenged Heterogeneous Networks in Electrical Engineering Department. Visits Dr. Sobia Baig, gave an invited talk on Power line communication role of multi-carrier modulation techniques and their variants for reliable data communication at the PHY layer online in the IEEE Region 10 Student/GOLD/WIE Congress in Auckland on July 8, 2011 in the Emerging Technology Seminar Series. Engr. Muhammad Shuja Khan has successfully returned from USA after participation in the following workshop/ university as: Trainee at GEM4 Summer School Program 2011 on Cellular and Molecular Machines with a focus on Biological Machines, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA USA. (picture is herewith attached at the end of this report) Foreign Research Internee at City College of Nanofabrication Facility, City University of New York Nano Engineering and Technology Laboratory, New York City, NY, USA (22.07.11 to 19.08.11).
IEEE Student Branch at COMSATS Lahore All Pakistan Technical Paper Competition APTEC 2011 IEEE CIIT Lahore in continuation with its and Computer Engineering. The event traditions planned to provide a forum in the involved participation of students, faculty and form of APTEC 2011-ALL PAKISTAN industrialists from all over Pakistan. APTEC T E C H N I C A L P A P E R / P O S T E R 2011 was held on 19th April 2011. It was a COMPETITION to bring some of the best full day event headed by Professor Dr. Saleem student engineers together from all over the Farooq Shaukat, Chief Organizer APTEC country. APTEC 2011 was an undergraduate 2011 and Dr. Sobia Baig, Convener IEEE final year project based paper/poster Student Branch. competition that aimed to provide an occasion to exhibit original and innovative work carried out by the young engineers during their final year projects, in the form of scientific papers/ posters. It also gave students the opportunity to learn from the best and interact with their fellows in the field of Electrical, Electronics Upcoming events Matlab and Simulink Workshop (Planned on 15 th & 16 th December, 2011) The Circuiteers first ever speed wiring and circuit solving techniques competition Mobile Application Development Workshop IEEE-CIIT Gaming Competition IEEE-CIIT Lahore organized a gaming competition on 3 rd, October 2011. 4 hours of nail biting matches and at the end one team took home the title of Counter Strike Champs. Workshop on Real Time Operating Systems A workshop on Real Time Operating Systems was organized by IEEE-CIIT in order to keep pace with the changing trends and technology. Dr Faheem Sheikh, and Mr Ahmed Yousaf from Mentor Graphics, educated the attendees about the changing trends and provided technical tools for the RTOS development. Final Year Project Seminar Taking in view the fact that selection of FYP can prove to be very critical in a student s carrier, IEEE-CIIT organized second FYP seminar focusing on the importance of FYP, the execution plan of an FYP and keeping the pace with time. This seminar was of great interest to the students of final year. Dr Ali Nawaz Khan, Head of Project Advisory Committee Electrical Engineering Department, COMSATS Institute of I.T, and Mr Usman Rafique, Lecturer E.E. guided the students with their experiences. This seminar was held on 13 th October, 2011. IEEE Students Branch CIIT Lahore Reorganized IEEE Student Branch of CIIT, Lahore was reorganized by the Counselor, Dr. Sobia Baig with the aid of Engr. Babar Ali. A new executive body was selected to represent the IEEE forum at the Institute level, after extensive interviews. Following team was selected. IEEE student chapter has nominated teams from EE department to participate in competitions of this event. Moreover, IEEE section meeting named as Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on Dec 20, 2011 at PSC, IEEE executive body will present its progress report for year 2011. Further-more Mr. Ahmed Ali (Chair IEEE-CIIT) has been nominated for Best Student Volunteer award that is to be presented in the AGM.
