NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde: Regional Sector The directorate has a range of specialist services located across many of the hospital sites within NHSGGC. The directorate is comprised of five clinical sub directorate areas encompassing West of Scotland (Regional) and Scotland (National) services. Regional Services is a fantastic place to pursue a career in nursing with options of working in varied clinical specialties. We are looking for candidates with a focus on delivering high quality, safe, effective, person centred care. We actively encourage recruits at all levels to develop their existing skills by undertaking bespoke development programmes from commencement of employment.. As a newly Qualified Nurse (NQN) there is dedicated support and facilitate completion of induction objectives and providing support appropriate to the NQN individual learning needs. This is in addition to the support of the ward preceptors. Practice Educator Facilitators also support with Flying Start and other learning opportunities. All Registered Nursing staff appointed within Regional Services will have a bespoke local induction package within a portfolio format. There will be support through Mandatory training and ongoing professional development opportunities. There is also an active Band 6 Leadership Development Programme which has supported ongoing development and promotion. We have recognised and established links with local partner Universities who can offer academic advancement to support your ongoing career within a specialist nursing post. You will be well supported by Lead Nurses, Practice Development Nurses and local management teams. Specialist Oncology Nursing Services within the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre aim to provide a person centred and caring environment. The Beatson has 4 in patient oncology wards, all of which are tumour site specific, to allow for person centred care and enhance staff development. The Beatson provide fantastic training opportunities for staff and has fantastic development and career opportunities for cancer nursing. Haematology Clinical Haematology within NHSGGC has both in-patient and out-patient departments. There are currently 2 in-patient wards within The Beatson, The National Bone Marrow Transplant Unit which is a 20 bedded unit(b8/b9) caring for the complex and high acuity needs of this patient group. Ward B7 which is a 19 bedded unit, incorporated within this is 4 beds allocated for the teenage and young adult (TYA) undergoing treatment for haematology malignancies. The Beatson is a recognised centre of excellence for the delivery of cancer treatment with the emphasis being about the patient and carers journey and constant evaluation for service improvement. There is a 10 bedded unit( Ward 4C) within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital(QEUH) that delivers treatment for haematology malignancies.

Out-patient areas: Clinic P ACH New Victoria Haematology Day Unit RAH Haemato-oncology at VOL Haemato-oncology at IRH Non Malignant Haematology: Anti-coagulation Service City wide Service North/South/Clyde Haemophilia Day Unit - GRI Radiology provides a service for patients undergoing diagnostic, therapeutic and interventional radiology procedures across a range of imaging modalities, for day case patients, outpatients and in-patients attending for planned and emergency radiology procedures. The out of hours interventional service is delivered by a multidisciplinary on call team. Interventional Radiology is a dynamic, innovative and rapidly advancing clinical area and plays a significant role in the clinical management of patients. The Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit has 48 beds and is responsible for the acute care of patients who have sustained a traumatic spinal cord injury. The Unit covers the whole of Scotland and has approx 100 admissions per year. This 12 bedded HDU and 36 bedded rehabilitation unit provides an exciting opportunity for staff to work in this multi disciplinary environment delivering rehabilitation to patients from aged 12 upwards with varying degrees of paralysis. The Unit supports all newly qualified nurses in completing their flying start and all newly appointed staff in completing a bespoke spinal competency orientation programme. There is a dedicated Unit Support Nurse, Education Sister and Nurse Specialist team who assist in the support and development of staff. Welcome to the team, Neurology and Rehabilitation The acute Neurology service for the West of Scotland incorporates a 19 bedded Acute Neurology ward, a 17 bedded 5 day investigatory Neurology ward with 12 day treatment chairs. The unit also has a Neurology/Neurosurgical and oral maxillofacial outpatients department that provides specialised outpatient care for the West of Scotland. These areas provide an exciting opportunity to develop basic, technical and specialist nursing skills, for both newly qualified and experienced staff. Rehabilitation services are based currently on the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital site, and Inverclyde Royal Hospital Site. The QEUH site is a 30 bedded unit that provides complex rehabilitation for patients who requite complex neurological and physical rehabilitation for both acquired and traumatic brain injuries, as part of an interdisciplinary team. The Inverclyde site is an 8 bedded unit that provides the same complex physical and neurological interdisciplinary care as the QEUH for the Clyde area. All the units have support from clinical nurse educators specialised in the Neurology and complex rehabilitation, and are dedicated to providing evidence based support to new and experienced staff within our areas.

Burns and Plastics The Plastic Surgery and Burns Unit for regional services is based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Plastic surgery is comprised of three wards; a day unit for smaller procedures, an 18 bedded inpatient ward and a 10 bedded specialist monitoring unit. The Plastic Surgery outpatient department provides the following services; pre assessment, a nurse led clinic, a laser suite, a dedicated physiotherapy department, minor surgery and clinical psychology. There are two breast reconstruction clinical nurse specialists, two skin cancer clinical nurse specialists and a plastic surgery outreach nurse specialist. The Burns Unit at Glasgow Royal is one of 7 burns centres within Scotland treating patients who have sustained a serious burn injury, it has 13 beds and a clinic managed by two burns clinical nurse specialists. There is also a burns outreach nurse specialist. The Burns and plastic surgery unit offer a course of study for the graduate certificate in burns and plastic surgery care for adults and paediatrics based at Glasgow University. Renal The Renal Service in NHSGGC provides inpatient care for patients with acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. This part of the service is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with 65 in-patient beds. There are 50 nephrology beds providing Level 1 and Level 2 care and 15 surgical beds providing care for patients undergoing surgical procedures such as renal transplantation and vascular access creation. The renal service also provides regular outpatient dialysis to around 500 patients over 6 sites: QEUH, Glasgow Royal Infirmary, New Victoria Hospital, Stobhill Hospital, Inverclyde Royal Hospital and the Vale of Leven Hospital. Patients who wish to undertake home based dialysis therapy are supported via the Peritoneal Dialysis service based at QEUH and the Home haemodialysis training unit based at Stobhill Hospital. We have a structured competency program which is supported by PDN. We facilitate 8 week supernumerary to allow development of core skill with support and supervision. We provide a program of in house study days to cover aspects of Renal nursing, support attendance at Corporate courses and Flying start. Neurosurgery and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery The west of Scotland Neurosurgical service is based within the Institute of Neurological Sciences at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The Neurosurgical service runs numerous theatre lists per week within the INS and is supported by 3 inpatient wards with 22 beds in each. The regional maxillofacial unit is based within the Institute of Neurological Sciences also. The service includes dedicated theatre service within the INS theatres, outpatient clinics and a 21 bedded inpatient ward. Both services undertake cutting edge surgical procedures on a weekly basis and are supported by a dedicated Same Day Admission Unit within the department well as an HDU and ITU providing critical care support for this group of patients.

Both services have support for clinical nurse educators, specialised in Neurosurgery and OMFS (including a specific education role for theatres) who are dedicated to providing evidence based support to new and experienced staff.
