Student RN Maintaining Patient Lists with Treatment Team Lesson Plan Agenda... 1 Class Activities... 2 Maintaining a List of Patient Assignments... 2 Finding Discharged Patients... 5 Agenda The following is a breakdown of time for each major part of the lesson. Time (min) 15 Topics Patient Lists 5 Finding Discharged Patients 20 TOTAL TIME

Class Activities Maintaining a List of Patient Assignments Log In Use the ID and password provided under the Hyperspace Login section on your tent card Press Enter For training only, we will change the default department (unit based computers are programmed to automatically default to that department) Type OMH MED in the department field and press Enter Select OMH MED/SURG 3S and Click Accept Under Default cosigner: Enter trn19130 Press Enter twice to navigate to Patient Lists Patient Lists is indicated by the tab with the blue stick figure icon in the upper left of your screen As a Student Nurse, this is your home screen Patient Lists QSGs: Pages 4-7 The left side of the screen is called the Patient Lists Tree You may want to view more of the Patient Lists Tree If so, you can drag the bar over (Instructor-demonstrate) You have a My Lists section and an Available Lists section As new students, you will have four default System Lists under My Patients (double click on My Patients) Definition of a System List: A List of patients the system updates and maintains based on certain criteria

They are indicated by the red and blue stick figures The black arrow indicates a shortcut The login System Lists (zomh and zwmh Patients Login) are based on the default login department listed at the top of screen (Instructor point out the OMH Med/Surg 3S) Depending on your role, you may or may not need all of these System Lists Let s remove one of them (it is OK to remove since it is a shortcut) Highlight Treatment Team, Right click, select Remove System List, and click Remove You can also Add System Lists as shortcuts Refer to Page 5 in your QSG for more information With the default login System Lists, this should be rarely used by Student RNs Patient Assignments Your Instructor will give you your patients assignments At the beginning of your shift, you will assign yourself to your patients Treatment Teams You have been assigned four patients today on OMH 3S Carter, Jace, Ellie, and Molly Your patients are listed on the bottom of your tent card Each patient has the same first name; what defers is the last name All of your training patients have the same last name as your training nurse In the Patient Lists Tree, Highlight the zomh Patients Login Since OMH 3S is our default login, all of the patients on 3S are listed on the right side Let s find our Carter patient first

(Instructor: Let the students know that for training, we need a large volume of patients in the departments) In the live environment, the maximum patients on a unit is usually 25-30 Since there are so many patients in training, we need to sort the patients Click the heading for the Patient Name column so you see an up arrow Quickly type the first few letters of Carter s last name Highlight his name, right-click, and select Assign Me To prove that it worked, click on All My Patients. Is your Carter patient listed? I will give you a few minutes to assign yourselves to the other three patients (Jace, Ellie, and Molly) If you know your patient s last name, you can also use the Search box on the upper right side of your screen. In the Live environment, most patient assignments are usually based on room numbers Training patients are all in the same pool room What questions do you have? (Instructor if asked demonstrate how to End My Assignments if you added a patient in error. Otherwise, this is covered at the end of class)

Finding Discharged Patients You may need to document in a patient s chart after they have been discharged A patient no longer appears on a System List once they are discharged You can either use the Search box option or the Recently Discharged Folder in the Patient List Tree In the Search box, click on the drop down arrow and select the appropriate Discharge choice Enter the patient s last name (use Smith) If the system could not find your patient, it will give you other lists to search All of your searches will be saved under Recent Searches under Available Lists Or.. Click on the Recently Discharged Folder in the Patient Lists Tree You will see folders for OMH, WMH, and Angel s Grace Click on the appropriate folder to find your discharged patient You would open the patient s chart and finish documentation (you will learn this in the next lesson) What questions do you have?
