President supdate President s Page 13 Part-Time Faculty Member Rescued Woman Mid-Flight Carmen Bravo, RN, MSN candidate was recognized by her local home health agency as nurse of the year for the 3rd straight year. Part of her recognition was to travel to Florida for a Home Health conference. During the flight there, a woman collapsed, had no blood pressure, etc. so Carmen and another nurse helped during mid-flight turbulence. The last 2 hours of the flight they communicated with a physician in Orlando where an ambulance crew met the woman who had recovered. Carmen teaches in our RN program a wonderful role model. President supdate President s Page 16 Road Closure Announcement Resurfacing work is slated to begin on Aten Road soon, from Dogwood to Highway 111. Work is scheduled to start on or around the week of November 21 and we expect there will be lane closures, detours, and traffic delays due to this road work. Additionally, there will be periodic complete closures of Aten Road for periods of several hours or possibly a day. The two campus driveways off of Aten Road (Drive one and Drive two) will also be intermittently closed at the same time. Work will continue over a period of weeks and the contractors will be attempting to minimize impact on IVC student and employee traffic, although there are bound to be inconveniences. We have given them the dates of our Thanksgiving and Winter Break periods. This notice is provided for advance warning. Further details will be given once they are provided to us. And the good news is that, when completed, Aten Road will not seem like an offroad track. Thanksgiving Campus Closure The Board approved Resolution No. 17107, designating, Wednesday, before Thanksgiving a holiday. Campus is closed Wednesday Saturday. We will reopen on Monday, November 28, 2016.
