An Internet of Opportunity 2016 Strategic Focus: on the enduring need to connect the unconnected Over 50% of the world s population EUROPE remains unconnected NORTH AMERICA Real challenge lies not in connecting the next billion people, but the last two billion THE MIDDLE EAST AFRICA Now is the time to build it, but we should build it better and build it stronger ASIA on building trust in the Internet as a safe, secure and resilient environment for innovation and progress LATIN AMERICA/CARIBBEAN Technology alone won t solve today s security and trust issues. Nor can any one entity whether it be government, business or network operators. The security of the Internet is a shared responsibility. We must act together. Internet Society's Collaborative security framework is actionable by everyone and will create a more robust Internet for all 5

Regional Policy Survey - Our second regional survey on topical Internet policy issues. - Polled 3,302 end-users from across the region. Survey Highlights: - Internet connectivity again emerged as the topmost concern for respondents 87% of respondents would like their government to provide more opportunities for them to be involved in Internet policymaking - 70% believed that cybersecurity and civil liberties are equally important http://www.internetsociety.org/doc/internet-society-survey-policy-issues-asia-pacific-2015 Regional Mobile Internet Survey - Explored preferences and behaviour of mobile Internet users - Polled 1,620 users from 37 countries across the region Survey Highlights: - 47% use mobile as primary means of Internet access - Mobile Internet primarily used for information and communication with 90% using email on mobile device - 80% of respondents use Android - Smartphones overwhelmingly device of choice across all age groups; highest among 15-24 http://www.internetsociety.org/doc/mobile-internet-usage-trends-asia-pacific 9

Regional Projects Wireless for Communities (W4C) Running successfully since 2010 in India with - Phase IV (2014-15): Women Entrepreneurship & Empowerment (W2E2) completed last year. - Recognized with 2 International Awards (2013) - ITU/MCMC Broadband at the Roots - Public Affairs Asia Yahoo Internet for Good Project Expansion In 2015, the project expanded to Pakistan and Nepal. Further expansion to other regions being planned. 11
