1. Individual Scholarships Students Study Trips / Seminars for Groups of Foreign Students to Germany The programme aims at providing students with subject-related knowledge by arranging appropriate visits, tours, and information meetings, or by organizing subject-related seminars and practical courses with universities, companies, and possibly public institutions. www.daad.eg/studytrips University Summer Course Grants for Foreign Students and Graduates These University Summer Course Grants are provided to support students who attend German language and area studies courses offered by German higher education institutions. Courses last three to four weeks and are offered in the summer months. Students in Bachelor s and Master s degree programmes in any subject area with German language knowledge can apply for University Summer Courses. www.daad.eg/summercourses Scholarships for Graduates from German Schools Abroad The Sawiris Foundation for Social Development and the DAAD offer fulltime scholarships open to all study courses in Germany. The programme is designed for excellent graduates of German Schools in Egypt (DEO, DSBK, DSBA, and Europa-Schule Kairo). Application requirement is a nomination by the school and a minimum GPA of 1.5. 1

Master s Candidates EPOS: Scholarships for Postgraduate Courses with Special Relevance to Developing Countries The scholarship is designed for postgraduate courses to young professionals in leading positions from developing countries with the opportunity to engage in postgraduate education and training in their particular field or profession. The typical scholarship holder will have completed an academic degree far beyond average and at least two years of related professional experience. The duration is 12-24 months, depending on the particular institution. www.daad.eg/epos Helmut-Schmidt-Programme (Master's Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance) This programme is designed for academically qualified future leaders in politics, law, economics, and administration to prepare them in a practical-oriented course for their professional life. The scholarships are offered both for young graduates without professional experience and for mid-career professionals. www.daad.eg/helmut-schmidt PhD Candidates co-financed German Egyptian Research Long-term Scholarship (GERLS) The target group of this programme comprises Egyptian researchers holding M.A. / M.Sc. degrees which should generally not be older than 3 years. Each year a group of researchers will be sent to Germany for doctoral scholarships in the scientific fields and priorities agreed upon by DAAD and MHESR. The scholarships within this programme are awarded for 12 months, subject to extension up to 42 months. www.daad.eg/gerls 2

Postdocs Bilateral Exchange of Academics (WAP) The Bilateral Exchange of Academics Programme is primarily intended to support the implementation of mutual teaching and research projects between German and Egyptian scientists. It offers academic visits to Germany ranging from 14 days to 3 months, depending on the applicant s work schedule and cannot be extended. The aim is to exchange in two ways, thus the Egyptian researchers are kindly requested to invite their host professors for research stays in Egypt through this programme. Applications are open to all PhD holders working at Egyptian universities or research institutions. www.daad.eg/wap Leibniz - DAAD Research Fellowships Leibniz DAAD Research Fellowship is a new programme implemented by the Leibniz Association (Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz) and the DAAD. The fellowships offer highly-qualified recent foreign postdocs the opportunity to conduct special research at institutes of the Leibniz-Association in Germany. www.daad.eg/leibniz DLR / DAAD-Research-Fellowship Programme DLR DAAD Research Fellowships is a programme implemented by the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR German Aerospace Center) and the DAAD. This special programme is intended for highly-qualified foreign doctoral and postdoctoral students as well as senior scientists. It offers outstanding scientists and researchers the opportunity to conduct special research at the institutes of the DLR in Germany in the fields of aeronautics, space, transportation, and energy. www.daad.eg/dlr 3

Master s, PhD Candidates & Postdocs co-financed German Egyptian Research Short-term Scholarship (GERSS) The scholarship shall enable advanced graduate students to pursue part of their Master, Doctoral or Post-Doctoral research to carry out a specific research project at German universities, archives, libraries, or research institutes. The scholarships may be awarded for a period from three to six months. The distribution of the monthly units will be defined by the DAAD independent selection committee per the proposals presented by the candidates. The number of months granted for each candidate should not exceed six months and should not be less than three months. www.daad.eg/gerss Alumni DAAD is offering various activities for its alumni to link between alumni themselves, alumni and their German host institutions, as well as with the DAAD, and maintain professional and personal ties with Germany. The activities include: Specialist Literature Programme Smaller Equipment Grants Smaller Alumni Events Alumni Special Projects Letter Magazine www.daad.de/alumni Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders (WE) The Re-invitation Programme helps the DAAD to maintain contact with its former scholarship holders (DAAD Alumni) who studied in Germany for at least 6 months. DAAD Alumni can apply for a re-invitation to Germany with the purpose of completing a research or work project at a state higher education institution or non- university research institute. The Re-invitation Programme offers research stays in Germany from 1 to 3 months, depending on the applicant s work schedule and cannot be extended. Applications are open to all PhD holders affiliated to Egyptian universities or research institutions. www.daad.eg/we 4

Institutional Scholarships co-financed German Egyptian Mobility Programme for Scientific Exchange and Excellence Development (GE-SEED) GE-SEED aims at supporting bilateral mobility between Egyptian and German scientific teams with special emphasis on young scientists (Master and PhD students) and within the framework of a jointly submitted research project of a period up to two years. Faculty members, scientists and researchers should form a project team headed by a project leader. Each team should not exceed five persons. www.daad.eg/ge-seed For more information please refer to the following link: www.daad.de/ppp co-financed German Egyptian Research Fund (GERF) GERF aims to promote bilateral research cooperation between Egypt and Germany in areas of mutual interest. The biennial grants are intended to give researchers including young scientists an opportunity to address new areas of scientific research. Research results generated in these projects are to be developed into concrete applications. Academic Cooperation Higher Education Cooperation Programmes DAAD offers a variety of Higher Education Cooperation programmes which mostly focus on development of structure and curricula as well as mobility, internationalization and alumni networking of the universities involved. For the below programmes the German partner university is the leading part in the application process and needs to upload final documents in the DAAD portal (https://portal.daad.de/). Therefore, programme descriptions and application processes are mostly available in German language. Applications can be filled in German or English language. 1. Capacity Building DAAD Kairo Akademie The DAAD Kairo Akademie, established in 2011, is an interdisciplinary training academy, offering a cluster of modules to different target groups such as prospective applicants for scholarship programmes, postdocs, alumni, scholarship holders as well as for academics in general. Module topics range from traditional areas like Proposal Writing, International Networking, How to Present Scientific Data, to soft skills like Effective Time Management or Teambuilding. During the one day modules, groups of about 25 participants receive intensive training on the selected subject. http://dka.daadcairo.org/ UNILEAD: University Leadership and Management Training Programme This programme is intended for junior advisors to university top leadership, (deputy) coordinators of central university departments (planning, evaluation, human resources development, budget, continuing education, International offices, technology transfer etc.), task force coordinators for university reform projects, coordinators of staff development units or programmes. Core elements of the course include project management, finance management and human resources management as well as the development of individual reform projects. The course is highly practice-oriented and requires participants to play an active role. www.daad.de/dies-training DIES-Training Course Management Of Internationalisation Leibniz Universität Hannover, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and the German Rectors Conference (HRK) are jointly organizing the DIES Training Course Management of Internationalisation. The key objective of the training course is to qualify university staff (either international office staff or higher education managers responsible for coordinating international activities) from selected countries of Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia, to manage processes and tasks of internationalisation in higher education. The programme will enable the participants to build up improved and more effective structures of internationalisation at their home universities. www.daad.de/dies-training 7

4. Bilateral Master s Programmes Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design (IUSD) IUSD is jointly organized by University of Stuttgart, Germany, and Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. The programme structure takes an interdisciplinary and integrative approach, not only addressing questions related to sustainable city management and energy efficient construction but also taking the economic, political, and cultural dimensions of the Arabic-Islamic cultural area into consideration. The scholarship is offered within the EPOS programme. www.iusd.uni-stuttgart.de/index.php?page_id=150 International Education Management (INE- MA) INEMA is a joint programme of University of Education Ludwigsburg, Germany, and Helwan University, Egypt. The purpose of the master programme is to develop and to provide managerial skills as well as competencies for cross-cultural challenges in education management. www.ph-ludwigsburg.de/inema.html 8

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency for the MENA Region (REMENA) The master programme REMENA is offered by the University of Kassel, Germany, Cairo University, Egypt, and Monastir University, Tunisia. It provides young professionals with intercultural competencies in addition to technical and managerial knowledge in the renewable energy and energy efficiency (RE & EE) sector. www.uni-kassel.de/eecs/remena International Water Resources Management (IWRM-MENA) The master programme (IWRM-MENA) is jointly organized by the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Germany and the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan. It trains experts for bilateral projects in water resources management with a holistic approach considering both technical and socioeconomic problems of resources use. The target group of this master programme is young professionals active in water-related fields, with some practical work experience. www.iwrm-master.info/iwrm-mena/application/scholarships Economics of the Middle East (EMEA) EMEA is a unique master programme originally designed by the Philipps-Universität Marburg, Germany, and the Lebanese American University in Beirut, Lebanon. Heritage Conservation and Site Management (HCSM) This international Joint Master Programme results from the cooperation between Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, Germany and Helwan University in Cairo, Egypt. The target group of this master programme is young graduates of archaeology, architecture, tourism, conservation, history, or other relevant study fields. www.b-tu.de/heritageconservation-ma/steckbrief Comparative & Middle East Politics and Society (CMEPS) The CMEPS is an international Joint Master Programme between the American University in Cairo (AUC), Egypt and Eberhard Karls University, Tübingen, Germany. The target group is Bachelor graduates in the field of political science and social sciences who are looking for a challenging master programme that focuses on Middle East politics, democratization, and development. www.cmeps.eu/ German as a Foreign Language This international Joint Master Programme between Ain Shams University, Egypt and University of Leipzig, Germany targets Bachelor graduates in the field of German Studies who are looking for a challenging master programme that focuses on becoming a German teacher at schools and universities in Egypt. www.daad.eg/studying-german-in-egypt 10

Partners of the DAAD The DAAD provides a platform for German-Egyptian exchange in the fields of science, technology, and research, which will deepen the existing cooperation and partnership between the two countries. Furthermore, the DAAD contributes to the synergy of scientists in Germany and Egypt bringing together experts from academic institutions, researchers and representatives of industry and government. Especially young scientists are promoted and supported through information, exhibitions, scientific events, and networking opportunities. DAAD Scholarships for Germans Lectureships The DAAD has a long tradition of sending German educators to Egypt to teach German or other specialized fields like architecture, politics, social sciences, archaeology, and many more at governmental or private universities. The application for a lectureship is jointly filed by the prospective guest lecturer and the host institution, and needs to be submitted online to the DAAD Bonn head office. After a selection process by external experts the DAAD awards the lectureship.
