April 14, 2016 To: CC: From: Subject: Sarjeet Gill, CNAS Executive Committee Chair Jim Sandoval, Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs Chuck Rowley, Associate Vice Chancellor, Computing & Communications Joe Childers, Dean, Graduate Division Jose Wudka, Chair, Academic Senate CNAS Regulation Change regarding Banner Executive Council reviewed the proposals to modify CNAS regulations 2.4.5 and 3.4.3. Council does not support the changes proposed as they are motivated solely by the limitations of the recently adopted Banner system. Furthermore, it is Council's position that any future proposals that follow from the Banner adoption should be accompanied by evidence that a technical solution was considered, and with a critical evaluation by Computing & Communications of the feasibility of such a technical solution. An evaluation of the impact on students and programs should also be provided.

March 14, 2016 To: Jose Wudka, Chair Riverside Division From: Stephen Wimpenny, Chair Committee on Educational Policy Re: CNAS Executive Committee Proposed Changes to Major Requirements Bylaw NR 2.4.5 The Committee on Educational Policy reviewed the proposed changes to the major requirements in CNAS at their March 11, 2016 meeting. The Committee opined that the brief justification provided for the change documenting Banner not being able to code the 24 unique units is not sufficient to justify the proposed change. The Committee recommends that the CNAS Executive Committee provide a more thorough justification, which documents the impact of the proposed change on the course requirements for the major programs.

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, RIVERSIDE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES, ARTS, AND SOCIAL SCIENCES RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA 92521-0132 March 11, 2016 TO: José Wudka, Chair Academic Senate FROM: CHASS Executive Committee RE: Proposed Changes to CNAS Regulation re Academic Major Requirements (Bylaw NR 2.4.5) The CHASS Executive Committee discussed the Proposed Changes to CNAS Regulation re Academic Major Requirements (Bylaw NR 2.4.5) via an electronic format on March 10, 2016. March 14, 2016 To: Jose Wudka, Chair Riverside Division From: Stephen Wimpenny, Chair Committee on Educational Policy Re: CNAS Executive Committee Proposed Changes to Academic Minors Bylaw NR 3.4.3 The Committee on Educational Policy reviewed the proposed changes to the academic minors in CNAS at their March 11, 2016 meeting. The Committee noted that the justification is not accurate as it has the same justification for the proposed changes to CNAS Bylaw NR 2.4.5. The Committee recommends that a justification be provided that reflects the proposed changes for CNAS Bylaw NR 3.4.3. The Committee also recommends that the CNAS Executive Committee provide a thorough justification for the proposed change, which documents the impact of the proposed changes on the course requirements for major and minor programs.
