Introduction - Sustainable Development SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. To build a truly sustainable way of life, three key areas are in focus: Economic Growth & Equity: Social Development: Conserving Natural Resources & Environment: An integrated approach to foster long term growth while ensuring that no nation or community is left behind Meeting the need for jobs, food, education, energy, health care, water and sanitation while ensuring that culture, social diversity and the rights of workers are respected and the communities are empowered to determine their own future. egov Program & Private Sector in Sustainable Development Government of Bahrain believes that PRIVATE SECTOR contribution in the development of egov and ICT agenda would result in a providing better life to its citizens. We will continue to: 1 Mobilize new private sector investments in order to leverage private funds required in the development of egovernment networks, including both underlying information and communications technology infrastructure and equipment, as well as the public services being delivered on these networks 2 Attract private sector experience, technology, and innovation in the design of electronic networks, channels and services, and to benefit from private sector creativeness and ingenuity 3 Utilize private sector marketing channels and customer service expertise in the commercial delivery of services to customers of the egovernment system 4 Reduce costs in the delivery of public services or the execution of public administrative procedures by leveraging the cost efficiencies of the private sector 5 Transfer key risks away from the public sector s limited resources and onto the private party that can best manage them External Document
