October 2014 Corporate Partners Regional Conferences Presidents Retreat Pro-Am Sell-A-Thon 2015 National Convention Member Opportunities Develop Yourself PSE News An Official Publication of Pi Sigma Epsilon and the PSE National Educational Foundation National Professional Fraternity In Marketing, Sales and Management Copyright 2014 Pi Sigma Epsilon, Inc. All Rights Reserved Pi Sigma Epsilon - Continuing to Make a Difference! Every day, I continue to be amazed at the strong talents of our PSE members, and fraternity as a whole. Coming off a very successful year, culminating at the 2014 National Convention, Pi Sigma Epsilon continues to perform at the highest level. We are in the best position, professionally and financially, than we have been in many years, thanks to the outstanding leadership within our chapters, volunteer boards, the National Council, NEF Board of Trustees, and our Headquarters staff. During the past year, we experienced much success as a fraternity. We saw an increase in membership, new chapters were started, welcomed new corporate partners, strong performance in Mu Kappa Tau, and we are in great shape financially. We even saw the move of our national HQ office to a new building in Greenfield, Wisconsin. What an amazing work space for our HQ staff! Over the past few months, I have heard many stories and updates on how our organization continues to be Difference Makers, at their universities, their communities, and with their peers. I am touched by the way each of you continue making our fraternity the gold standard of how to do things, not just good, but GREAT! As our fraternity now embarks on a new Strategic Plan, we once again look into the future of PSE, and how to continue making it GREAT for us now, and for our future members. That plan is how we will continue ensuring the PSE legacy for years to come. I encourage all of you - our collegiate members, our alumni, and our corporate partners - to continue being involved at a high level with PSE. To our collegiate members - I am so proud of this organization, and our accomplishments the past year. share the PSE story with others, make them realize why our organization is the greatest out there, and recruit some great people to your chapters. To our alumni (especially our newly graduated alumni) continue being involved with PSE. The PSE experience doesn t stop once you graduate! Bring your talents back to mentor and advise a chapter, judge competitions, recruit PSE members to work in your respective organizations, and even consider supporting PSE financially through personal giving. To our corporate partners thank you for continuing to partner with PSE, for recruiting our members to work for you, and for providing additional funding to support many of our programs, initiatives, and scholarships. I hope you will continue doing so for many years. Your support of PSE is very much appreciated! As we embark on another academic year, I charge you all with continuing to be Difference Makers! I am so proud of this organization, and our accomplishments this past year. I look forward to what is in store for this year. THANK YOU for all you do to make PSE the GOLD STANDARD of professional fraternities in the country! You all have my sincerest appreciation and gratitude. See you all in Houston for the 2015 PSE National Convention! Be GREAT! Fraternally Yours Always, Jon Salvani Pi Sigma Epsilon National President

PSE PROGRAMS Eighth Annual PSE Presidents Retreat Presented By: August 1-3, 2014 marked the eighth annual Presidents Retreat in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The weekend was filled with speakers, networking and fun for 37 chapter representatives. California, Louisiana and Rhode Island are among the 24 states that were represented at the retreat. Attendees arrived throughout the day on Friday and spent time in Milwaukee until the weekend kicked off with a dinner at Avenue Bar & Grill at the Doubletree Hotel. After visiting the new PSE Headquarters, some members experienced the Wisconsin State Fair while others explored the downtown area. It was not only a great way for the attendees to become acclimated with the host city, but to start forming friendships with the other presidents. Dinner gave everyone a chance to introduce themselves as well as the PSE Headquarters Team. Jon Salvani, Pi Sigma Epsilon National President, spoke about the direction that PSE is headed and about the goals of the attendees for the weekend. Pi Sigma Epsilon is grateful to corporate partner, Northwestern Mutual, who allowed us to use their facilities and sponsored the event. Michael Van Grinsven, Northwestern Mutual s Director of Field Recruitment, began Saturday morning with a welcome and shared more information about the company s internship program. Next was an appearance by Dave Keeling, Chairman of the Pi Sigma Epsilon National Educational Foundation. Dave went over the benefits and workings of NEF and how members can get scholarships! This year, we introduced the students to two of our newest corporate partners. Ed Albertson, Partner of Carew, explained the new Pro-Am Sell-A-Thon training materials and program changes. Kevin Carlson, CEO of Brill Street, spoke about the Chicago-based Generation Y recruiting firm s new involvement with PSE as the sponsor for two of the PSE Regional Conferences. PSE favorite, Michael Cheatham, spoke to the attendees about how they can make the most of their leadership opportunity and gave advice on different questions the attendees had. Tom James Company representative Tim Cornell presented an energetic segment about dressing for success. The rest of the day included opportunities for the presidents to share ideas and experiences, learn from the National Awards Program chair Joe Ashbee about different competitions, and Central Michigan s President Tyler Wallner s chapter s sponsorship package. After Executive Director, Ann Devine, reviewed the National Convention and overall finances of PSE, it was time for dinner at Mo s Irish Pub. The students were then free to explore Milwaukee with the other presidents to wrap up the busy but beneficial weekend. A special thanks to Northwestern Mutual for sponsoring the event for the eighth year in a row. Using their facilities, this jam packed weekend could not have been possible without their support. The PSE President s Retreat gave me the confidence and outlook I needed to bring back to my chapter to help it achieve its highest level. It allowed me to talk with other chapter presidents and truly learn from them and how they operate. The retreat also allowed me to make friends from all over the country who have the same mindset as I do. -Dorian Evans, Duquesne

At each Regional Conference, students are split into interchapter groups to compete in the Marketing Challenge. This year, we had multiple companies approach us about hosting the competition because of the opportunities it brings, and we wanted to include everyone. Depending on the regional a student attends, there will be a different challenge. Students will not only have fun, but will experientally learn team building skills, practice delegation and time management. Using marketing, advertising and public relation skills, groups will present to a panel of judges in hopes that their idea will sell the best. PSE PROGRAMS Regional Conference Marketing Challenges We are excited to announce that after a successful 2013 Regional Conference Marketing Challenge, Southwestern Advantage is returning as the host for the West and South Regionals. One of our newest corporate partners, Brill Street, will be hosting the Midwest and North Central regions. CEO and PSE alum Kevin Carlson will be a special guest judge at those regional conferences. Highlights of the 2014-2015 Program: PSE Programs Pro-Am Sell-A-Thon PSE s mission is to develop the sales and marketing skills of its members through lifelong opportunities. While many of PSE s members go on to have very successful sales and marketing careers, PSE maintains the belief that selling is a core skill required in any profession, as well as everyday life. The PSE Pro-Am Sell-A-Thon is an annual competition sponsored by the PSE National Educational Foundation. The purpose of this sales competition is to provide PSE collegiate members with the opportunity to experience the salesperson s role in a simulated business-to-business (B2B) sales environment. The Pro-Am is a year-long competition, but students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to compete at any one of the PSE Regional Conferences and/or the PSE National Convention. Along with Pro-Am sponsors, Vector Marketing, MultiView and Northwestern Mutual, PSE is pleased to announce our new partnership with Carew International, a leading international sales performance company. Consistently named among Selling Power magazine s Top Sales Training Companies, Carew enjoys an outstanding reputation in the training industry and worldwide business community. PSE students, who make a commitment to the Pro-Am, will receive the same sales training modules as professional salespeople. MultiView will provide the scenario for the Regional Conferences, and a Vector Marketing product will be sold at the PSE National Convention competition. Reviewing the Carew sales modules is MANDATORY for students. As soon as a student registers for a Regional Conference or the National Convention, they will be given the instructions to access the modules. There will be a training session at each event by a Carew professional. In addition to the sales call role-play at the regional conference and the national convention, each student will schedule an appointment with their buyer via the telephone, and submit a RFP (national convention only). Each of these is also MANDATORY in order to compete. While students may compete in just a Regional Conference or National Convention competition, the year-long Pro-Am winners will be based on points accumulated throughout the year, beginning with the regional conference. Points will be assigned as follows: 1 to 10 points Student makes a phone call to set the appointment and graded on criteria 5 points - Regional Conference Participation 10, 20 or 30 points - Regional Conference Placement (10 points to a finalist, 20 points to 2nd place, 30 points to 1st place. 2015 PSE National convention Even though class is just coming back into session, it s already time to start thinking about the 2015 National Awards Program. The National Awards Program is an opportunity to showcase your chapter achievements throughout the year in a professional business setting. Offering the largest awards competition in the country for similar student organizations, Pi Sigma Epsilon s program has something for every chapter, ranging from individual awards like Top Project Manager and Top PSE Salesperson, to project awards for the Top Marketing, Research, Sales and Service Projects, to chapter-wide awards like our three Top Chapter competitions and Most Improved Chapter, which is being brought back this year by popular demand. For most of our awards, participating chapters are first judged on the basis of a written award entry. PSE alumni and Corporate Partners evaluate these entries and the top scores will advance to the final round at the National Convention. The finalists will give a presentation of their work and participate in a Q&A session with another panel of PSE alumni and Corporate Partners.
