Soldier Quick Start Training View and Resolve Holds General Instructions This Step-by-step Instruction document describes how to view holds and take the appropriate action to have a hold removed from your GoArmyEd account. Step-by-step Instructions are provided for the tasks listed below. Select the name of the instruction or the reference to go directly to it. To return to this page, select the arrow. View Your Holds View Holds History Reference Information Types of Grading Holds Reference Information Types of Non-Grading Holds You will need the following: Internet access User name and password for GoArmyEd Prerequisite: You should have completed the Soldier Quick Start Training course. Business Policies Holds are used to enforce Army Regulation (AR) 625-1 rules that govern the use of Tuition Assistance (TA). During the time a hold is applied to your GoArmyEd account, you cannot request or use TA. Notification is sent to your preferred email account when a hold has been applied to your account and when a hold has been successfully resolved. Holds placed on your account prevent you from enrolling in future TA-funded classes through GoArmyEd. They do not prevent you from completing classes in which you already have enrolled through GoArmyEd. Holds are designed to uniformly enforce Army regulations governing the use of TA across the Army. Holds are lifted automatically after the issue that caused the hold is fully resolved. Common holds and their resolutions include: o No grade received within 45 days after class end date Hold is lifted after grade is posted o Received F, W, or unresolved Incomplete (I) grade Hold is lifted after recoupment is initiated o No Annual TA Statement of Understanding (SOU) Submit the electronic TA SOU Version 16 Last Updated Feb 2014 Green underlined text designates new information or changes Page 1 of 11

Step-by-Step Instructions - View Your Holds Use the following steps to view holds that have been applied to your student account. Note: Screen images in this document might vary slightly from the current GoArmyEd view. 1. Log into GoArmyEd at www.goarmyed.com with your user name and password. 2. The GoArmyEd homepage appears. Any holds will display on your homepage in the Alerts section and at the bottom of the screen in the Tuition Assistance (TA) Status section. The Alert section displays the hold description. To view more details about the holds, select the Hold Information link under the Alert section. Scroll to the bottom of the screen to view the Tuition Assistance (TA) Status section to view hold information. Note: Holds placed on your account prevent you from enrolling in future TAfunded classes through GoArmyEd. They do not prevent you from completing classes in which you already have enrolled through GoArmyEd. The GoArmyEd homepage appears. 3. Select Other Links in the Smart Links section. 4. The Other Links screen displays. Select the plus sign icon next to Before You Enroll in a Class. Step-by-Step Instructions - View Holds History 5. Select the View Hold History link. 6. The Hold History screen appears. It lists previous holds sorted with the most recently placed hold on the top. Information displays for each hold relating to when the hold was placed, removed, who removed it, and description. Hold History Details information appears and displays additional information related to the selected hold. 9. Select the Home link to return to your GoArmyEd homepage. Reference Information Types of Grading Holds Refer to the table below for types of grade holds and guidance on resolving them. Type of Hold Reason for Hold How to Resolve Course Grade FAIL Student received a failing grade. Repay Army for TA-funded portion of class tuition. Course Grade INC Course Grade Withdraw Undergraduate Army TA GPA < 2.0 Student received an Incomplete grade. Student received a grade of W. Withdrew from class after drop deadline. Army TA GPA is < 2.0 after 15 SH of TA-funded undergraduate classes completed Complete outstanding assignments and tests as quickly as possible. Communicate regularly with instructor. Follow up with instructor after you complete all assignments. An "I" grade is resolved as soon as your instructor posts a passing grade to your GoArmyEd Student Record. If the "I" grade is not resolved within 120 days of the class end date, repay the Army for the TA-funded portion of class tuition. Work with instructor and Army Education Counselors to explore options before processing a withdrawal. Soldier can enroll in classes through GoArmyEd, but will be required to pay for classes out of pocket until his or her Army TA GPA is 2.0. The hold will be lifted automatically when the Soldier s GPA is 2.0. Graduate Army TA GPA < 3.0 Army TA GPA is < 3.0 after six SH hours of TA-funded graduate classes completed Soldier can enroll in classes through GoArmyEd, but will be required to pay for classes out of pocket until his or her Army TA GPA is 3.0. The hold will be lifted automatically when the Soldier s GPA is 3.0. No Grade Student has no grade 45 days after the end date of the class. Reference Information Types of Non-Grading Holds Refer to the table below for types of non-grade holds and guidance on resolving them. Type of Hold Reason for Hold How to Resolve Admission Denied Army Education Request Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) Civilian Education Course Drop after Start Date Degree Completed ETS Date Passed Expiration of Service Agreement (ESA) Graduate Limit Reached Student was denied admission to his or her most recent program or plan. Placed on the Soldier s account directly by an Army Education Counselor. The hold only applies for Army Reserve Soldiers who have failed the APFT. Soldier s education level is missing in GoArmyEd, has completed a master s or higher level degree, or current degree level is not allowed based on the Civilian Designator Code. Classes dropped after class start date may be subject to recoupment or refund. A financial penalty might be incurred. Degree or certificate requirements have been completed. End of Term of Service (ETS) date has expired. If the ESA date in a Soldier s Student Record is on or before the requested course end date, the course request is not processed. Placed when a Soldier takes 39 SH of fully or partially TA funded coursework since entering a master s degree. Meet with an Army Education Counselor and school to discuss why your admissions request was denied. Remedy any deficiencies, reselect same school and degree plan, or select a different school or degree plan. Meet and discuss with your Army Education Counselor. Soldier should visit their Unit Administrator if data needs to be updated in the Army s Personnel System. Contact your Personnel Actions Center (PAC)/Unit Administrator/Unit Readiness NCO to have the Civilian Designator Code reflect the Soldier s current academic status. Work with instructor and Army Education Counselor to explore options before processing a withdrawal. Meet with an Army Education Counselor to discuss your next educational goals and request a new degree plan. Repay the Army for the TA-funded portion of class tuition. Go to PAC/Unit Administrator/Unit Readiness NCO to review or update the service end-date. Meet and discuss with your Army Education Counselor. Reference Information Types of Non-Grading Holds Type of Hold Reason for Hold How to Resolve HQ ACES Request Hold Placed on a Soldier s account by Headquarters (HQ), Army Continuing Education Services (ACES) for various reasons. Soldier should refer to their GoArmyEd record for details as to the issue(s) that led to this hold. This hold can only be removed by HQ ACES. Military Withdrawal Limit Missing Battle Assembly Not Eligible for TA Program Management Placed on a Soldier s account due to processing two withdrawals for military reasons with Army cost in the current fiscal year. Hold applies only to Army Reserve Soldiers when they have accrued nine or more unexcused unit training assemblies. Soldier personnel record indicates no longer eligible for active-duty TA System-wide hold applied due to temporary TA fund shortage. You will be permitted to enroll in classes, but they will not be processed unless TA funds are restored. Soldiers should meet with an Army Education Counselor to discuss their options. Soldier should visit their Unit Administrator if data is in error to have it corrected in the Integrated Total Army Personnel Database (ITAPDB). You should visit your PAC/Unit Administrator/Unit Readiness NCO if the data is in error to have it corrected in the Army s Personnel System. Meet and discuss with your Army Education Counselor. Suspension of Favorable Personnel Action Student Agreement Hold TA Statement of Understanding (SOU) Annual Reference Information Types of Non-Grading Holds Personnel record shows a suspension of favorable personnel action, which makes you ineligible for TA. Examples include security violation, failure of physical fitness test. A Student Agreement (SA)/Document Degree Plan (DPP) has not been uploaded in GoArmyEd by the end of six semester-hours taken at the home school or prior to the Soldier completing nine semester-hours at any school using TA funds. 1) School has not uploaded SA/DPP in GoArmyEd for Solders pursing fullydeveloped degree plan with LOI school. 2) Soldier s SA/DPP is not approved in GoArmyEd. Soldier must upload the SA/DPP in his or her Course Planner and it must be approved for Other, Drop-down and Non-LOI school degrees. Soldiers E6 and below The electronic annual TA SOU was not approved by his or her Commanding Officer by the anniversary date. Contact your unit for more information and for removal of the flag in personnel database. 1) LOI School-Fully Developed Degree Plan: Work with the school to complete an SA/ Documented Degree Plan. When the SA/DDP is uploaded by the School to the Soldiers record, the hold is removed within 24 hours. 2) Other, Drop-down Degrees and Non-LOI school degrees Soldier uploads SA/DPP in Course Planner and must be approved. The hold is removed within 24 hours. Soldiers E6 and below - The designated Commanding Officer must follow the instructions emailed to them to approve the Soldier s TA SOU. TA SOU Quarterly Soldiers E7 and above - Do not require an Commanding Officer approval, as a result, they have not submitted their annual TA SOU. Soldier has not submitted his or her electronic quarterly Tuition Assistance (TA) Statement of Understanding (SOU) Soldiers E7 and above - must submit their TA SOU. After the TA SOU is validated, the hold is resolved within 24 hours. Select the radio button acknowledging that he or she understands the terms of the TA SOU and enters his or her secure password as an electronic signature. Undergraduate Limit Reached Weight Control WM Request Hold Reference Information Types of Non-Grading Holds Placed when one of the following scenarios occurs: a) A Soldier takes 130 SH paid for in full or partially by TA; or b) he/she reports a graduation from a bachelor s level degree and is not in a master s level degree plan in GoArmyEd. Hold applies to Army Reserve Soldiers who have failed to maintain weight control standards. Placed on a Soldier s account when a withdrawal for military reasons (WM) is requested with an associated Army cost. Meet and discuss with your Army Education Counselor. Soldier should visit their Unit Administrator if data needs to be updated in the Army s Personnel System. If the WM is approved, the hold will be lifted. Key Points to Remember If you begin to fall behind in your class work, take the initiative to speak with your instructor about ways to get on track. Holds placed on your account prevent you from enrolling in future TA-funded classes through GoArmyEd. They do not prevent you from completing classes in which you have already enrolled through GoArmyEd. Notification is sent to your preferred email account when a hold has been applied to your account and when a hold has been successfully resolved.
