Mercy College, through generous gifts from individuals, friends, and alumni, as well as academic, professional and business organizations, is pleased to offer institutional scholarships. The purpose of these scholarships is to give recognition and support to academically strong students attending Mercy College. Please visit the Mercy College web site (www.mercycollege.edu/scholarships) for up-to-date scholarship information and to fill out an online application. The deadline to apply is February 28 th. We recommend you complete your FAFSA (www.fafsa.gov) by the scholarship deadline of February 28 th so that you can be considered for the need based scholarships. Only one application is necessary to be considered for any of the scholarship opportunities listed. Mercy College Academic Scholarships First Time Student Scholarship (Toledo) This scholarship was established to help first time students who have never attended college before. Up to 30 scholarships will be awarded each year. Eligibility: Student must be accepted to Mercy College of Ohio in a credit bearing Certificate program of at least two semesters in length, Associate or Bachelor s degree program. Student must have a high school grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale to be eligible for scholarship. Students who are accepted into the general college are not eligible for this scholarship. Student must be a first-time college student, newly enrolled at Mercy College. Student must enroll for at least 6 credit hours. Mercy College of Ohio Dean s Scholarship (Toledo) This scholarship was established to assist high school seniors who have been admitted to Mercy College. One scholarship recipient is awarded each year. Eligibility: High school senior who is admitted to Mercy College into a degree program. 3.3 high school GPA on a 4.0 scale and 21 or higher ACT or comparable SAT score. Mercy College of Ohio Presidential Scholarship (Toledo) This scholarship was established to assist high school seniors who have been admitted to Mercy College. One scholarship recipient is awarded each year. Eligibility: High school senior who is admitted to Mercy College into a degree program. 3.5 high school GPA on a 4.0 scale and 25 or higher ACT or comparable SAT score. 2 P a g e

Transfer Student Scholarship (Toledo) This scholarship was established to help students who have attended college before and are transferring to Mercy College for the first time. Eligibility: Student must be accepted to Mercy College of Ohio in a credit bearing Certificate program of at least two semesters in length, Associate or Bachelor s degree program. Student must be program ready, not General College. Transfer GPA must be 3.0 or higher. Student must enroll for at least 6 credits hours. Mercy Health Foundation Greater Toledo Scholarships Mary Anne Westhoven Endowment Fund (Toledo) This scholarship was established by the Mercy St. Vincent Foundation in the 1980 s to provide scholarships for students attending the former St. Vincent School of Nursing. The scholarship is supported by an endowed fund in the Mercy Health Foundation Greater Toledo. New or current student in the BSN degree program in good standing Moody/Measley/Whitman Scholarship Endowment Fund (Toledo) This scholarship was established in the 1980 s to provide scholarships for students attending the former St. Vincent School of Nursing. The scholarship is supported by an endowed fund in the Mercy Health Foundation Greater Toledo. New or current student in the ASN or BSN degree program in good standing Ohioans Home Healthcare Scholarship Fund (Toledo) This scholarship was established to provide scholarships to help support Registered Nurses in their communities who believe in excellence in patient care and embody the culture and values of Ohioans Home Healthcare. Current student in the BSN degree program, Toledo Campus, first or second year in good standing Full or three-quarter time (minimum of 9 hours) 3 P a g e

Richard and Ruth Hanley Scholarship Fund (Toledo) This scholarship was established to provide scholarships to first year students in good standing at Mercy College of Ohio, Toledo campus. The scholarship is to be used for tuition assistance. An accepted, first year student at Mercy College of Ohio, Toledo campus A graduate of either Cardinal Stritch High School or Waite High School Have a high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher A student who is involved, engaged and demonstrates leadership. A letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or leader describing the applicant s involvement is required Financial need Theresa Randall Scholarship Endowment Fund (Toledo) This scholarship was established in the 1980 s to provide scholarships for students attending the former St. Vincent School of Nursing. The scholarship is supported by an endowed fund in the Mercy Health Foundation Greater Toledo. New or current student in the ASN or BSN degree program in good standing Graduate of Central Catholic High School Ashel and Dorothy Bryan Endowed Scholarship (Toledo) This endowed scholarship fund was established in 1998 by Mr. and Mrs. Ashel Bryan to recognize academic excellence and help students in financial need. Highest consideration is given to students who demonstrate a commitment to the College s motto of compassion and caring and have the greatest financial need. Current Mercy College student Audrey Heschel McCue Memorial Scholarship (Toledo) This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Audrey McCue after her death in September 2010. A native of Fremont, Ohio, Audrey graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing in 1944. A devoted wife and mother, Audrey was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont. Must be a graduate of Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic High School who is entering Mercy College as a freshman pursuing an Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) 4 P a g e

Bachelor of Science in Biology Scholarship Fund (Toledo): The scholarship is given to a Bachelor of Science in Biology student in good standing. Selection criteria are academic standing in the program and financial need. The scholarship is to be used for tuition and fees. Funding for the award is from annual gifts received in support of the scholarship. Declared major in Biology, Successfully completed the first year of courses in the Biology major or more, Becky A. Kelley-Robarge Endowed Scholarship for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (Toledo) This scholarship was established in memory of Becky Kelley-Robarge, Dean of Academic Affairs at Mercy College of Northwest Ohio from 1992 to 2000. Becky was also a Nursing Instructor at the Mercy School of Nursing and was instrumental in the establishment of the College. New enrollee seeking a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree Beverly J. Kummer-Lower Endowed Scholarship Fund for the Radiologic Technology Associate Degree Program (Toledo) This endowed scholarship was established as a memorial to Beverly J. Kummer-Lower by her family and friends. She served as Program Coordinator of the Radiologic Technology Program at Mercy College starting in 1998. As Coordinator, Beverly oversaw the successful transition of the St. Vincent School two-year program to an Associate of Science Degree program at Mercy College. Student seeking an Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology Debbie H. McCoy Scholarship (Toledo) Debbie H. McCoy began her career at Mercy College of Northwest Ohio in 1993 and was named the Coordinator of the Associate Degree Nursing Program in 1999. Debbie graduated from Ohio State in 1978 and received her Master s Degree from the Medical College of Ohio (MCO). She was a staff nurse at MCO, the Lucas County Health Department, and Mercy Hospital, prior to becoming an assistant professor at Mercy College. 5 P a g e

Current ASN student who has successfully completed all first level nursing courses and is eligible to begin the second level of the nursing program Demonstrated evidence of clinical competence as validated in two letters of recommendation from previous clinical instructors Frank and Clara Lenhart Memorial Scholarship Fund (Toledo) This endowed scholarship was established in 1997 in memory of Frank and Clara Lenhart, parents of seven Mercy nurses, two physicians, a laboratory technician, an X-ray technician, and a farmer. The scholarship recognizes nursing excellence and helps students in financial need. Current Mercy College nursing student with a minimum 3.0 GPA Commitment to the college s motto of compassion and caring Priority given to graduates of Michigan high schools and/or residents of Michigan Helen Mae Dickman Nursing Scholarship (Toledo) Helen Mae Dickman was associated with Mercy from the moment of her birth on October 12, 1918. Ms. Dickman graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in 1939. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mary Manse College in 1955 and a Master of Science in Nursing from Wayne State University in 1949. In 1955, Ms. Dickman joined the faculty of Mercy School of Nursing, became Associate Director in 1959, and was director of the School from 1972 to 1981. ASN students who have successfully completed all first level nursing courses and be eligible to begin the second level of the nursing program. Currently maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and good standing in the nursing program. Demonstrate evidence of clinical competence (two letters of recommendation from previous clinical instructors.). Irma Rutkowski Scholarship Fund (Toledo) This scholarship fund was established in December 2008 by Dr. Daniel and Mary Jo Hanson to honor Irma Rutkowski. A graduate of the University of Toledo, Irma began her career at Mercy Hospital in 1949 as a registered medical technologist. She assumed directorship of the School of Medical Technology in 1980 and retired in 1990. As President of the Mercy Hospital Guild, Irma was instrumental in its transition to the Mercy College Auxiliary. In addition to leading the Auxiliary for ten years, Irma is coordinator of the Mercy Health Care Center Gift Shop volunteers. 6 P a g e

Opial Mercy College Scholarship Fund (Toledo) This scholarship was established in 1994 in the memory of John R. Opial. It is available for a high school student who has been accepted into Mercy College of Ohio. High school senior who is admitted to Mercy College Priority will be given to the entering senior with the highest academic standing Judy Ayoub Nursing Scholarship (Toledo) The award is made to an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) student(s) in good standing, who has successfully completed the 100 level of courses for the ASN and 200 level for BSN at Mercy College of Ohio. The scholarship is to be used for tuition and fees. The College s Scholarship Committee selects the recipient(s). For ASN Students: Preference for a veteran or someone currently serving in the U.S. military Successfully completed all 100 level nursing courses and be eligible to begin the 200 level of the nursing program, Currently maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and good standing in the nursing program One letter of recommendation from a previous instructor For BSN students: Preference for a veteran or someone currently serving in the U.S. military Successfully completed all 200 level nursing courses and be eligible to begin the 300 level of the nursing program, Currently maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and good standing in the nursing program One letter of recommendation from previous instructor Lloyd L. Casteel and Sarah Jane Casteel Scholarship (Toledo and Youngstown) The scholarship(s) is to be given to a student(s) seeking a degree to become a registered nurse, in good standing at Mercy College, with a preference for Patrick Henry High School, Hamler, Ohio graduates. 7 P a g e

A degree leading to becoming a registered nurse (associate or bachelor) Preference to Patrick Henry High School, Hamler, Ohio graduates Currently maintain at least a 3.0 Mary Beth Hayward Endowed Scholarship Fund (Toledo) This scholarship was established in 2004 as a memorial to Mary Beth Hayward. Mrs. Hayward was a faculty member of Mercy School of Nursing from 1966 to 1974 and continued as a nursing educator until her death in 2004. New or current BSN Completion or Pre-licensure student Mary Jo Urschalitz Scholarship Fund (Toledo) The scholarship was established through a bequest to St. Vincent School of Nursing made by Mary Jo Urschalitz. Ms. Urschalitz, a 1942 graduate of the school, worked as a nurse for the Health Department in Findlay, Ohio for many years. She had concern for the migrant workers who came to the Findlay area each summer and gave numerous volunteer hours of service to the migrant community. New enrollee seeking a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree Mercy Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship Fund (Toledo) This scholarship was established by the Mercy Alumni Association to assist a Mercy College student in the completion of his/her studies. New or returning student Mercy College Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship Fund (Toledo) The Mercy College Auxiliary established this endowed fund to recognize academic excellence, help students in financial need, and perpetuate the Mercy values of compassion, excellence, human dignity, justice, sacredness of life, and service. 8 P a g e

Current Mercy College student Mercy St. Charles Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship (Toledo) Auxiliary scholarships are awarded annually to help students entering the College who are in financial need and to perpetuate the Mercy values of compassion, excellence, human dignity, justice, sacredness of life and service. New or current student Mercy St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship (Toledo) In 1935, seven women, all graduates of the St. Vincent School of Nursing founded The Guild for the hospital. The name has been changed to the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary, but the purpose of this volunteer organization remains the same: to promote the mission and philosophy of the Grey Nuns and the Sisters of Mercy. The scholarships provided by the Auxiliary are awarded annually to help students entering Mercy College who are in financial need and to perpetuate the Mercy core values of compassion, excellence, human dignity, justice, sacredness of life, and service. Particularly emphasis is placed on service in support of the mission of the Auxiliary. New or current student Demonstrated service within one s faith community or civic community as documented in an essay citing examples of service rendered within the past two (2) years Patricia O Connell Sullivan Endowed Scholarship (Toledo) Patricia O'Connell Sullivan graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in 1967. Upon graduation, Pat was notified that the tuition debt that she had incurred during her schooling had been paid in full by an anonymous and generous donor. Over the course of a 48-year nursing career, Pat inspired the trust, respect, and gratitude of her patients and colleagues with her unwavering compassion, her breadth of expertise, and her uncompromising devotion to the principles of her profession. Pat began her nursing career at Mercy Hospital in the ICU and ended in the Post Liver transplant department at the University of Michigan where she worked just shy of 25 years. 9 P a g e

Regueyra Family Memorial Scholarship Fund (Toledo) This scholarship was originally established in 1996 in memory of Alberto Regueyra, the brother of Dr. F.I. Regueyra, to recognize nursing excellence and to help students in financial need. In 2006 the fund name was changed to remember all deceased members of the Regueyra family. Current nursing student Letter of recommendation from a clinical instructor addressing the student s nursing abilities and commitment to caring for patients with compassion Ruth L. Kelly Nursing Scholarship (Toledo) Ruth Lundt Kelly was the founding dean of the Medical College of Ohio School of Nursing (MCO) in 1970. The school offered the first bachelor s degree nursing program in northwest Ohio. The Ruth L. Kelly Foundation was established to carry on charitable or educational activities with an emphasis on scholarship support for students enrolled in degree-granting nursing programs in northwest Ohio. For ASN students: Successfully completed all first level nursing courses and be eligible to begin the second level of the nursing program and good standing in the nursing program Two letters of recommendation from clinical instructors citing evidence of clinical competence For BSN students: Pre-licensure students who have successfully completed all 300 level nursing courses and good standing in the nursing program Two letters of recommendation from clinical instructors citing evidence of clinical competence or a letter of recommendation from a current employer for BSN completion students Ruth Obert Kolwitz Scholarship (Toledo) This scholarship was established in 2008 by Mrs. Kolwitz, her family and friends. Ruth Kolwitz graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in 1948 and worked for many years at Mercy Hospital. 10 P a g e

Pre-licensure BSN students who have successfully completed all 200 level nursing courses and good standing with the College Two letters of recommendation from clinical instructors or faculty members citing evidence of clinical competence Sister Mary Ann Brady, RSM Endowed Scholarship Fund (Toledo) This scholarship honors Sister Mary Ann Brady who held a variety of positions at Mercy College from 1994 until her retirement in August 2007. Sister Mary Ann continues to be an active supporter of the mission of Mercy College through her involvement as a member of the Board of Directors for the Mercy College Foundation and as an active member of the Mercy College Auxiliary. New student enrolled in a credit-bearing certificate program High academic standing Sister Patricia Ann Dalke, RSM Endowed Scholarship Fund (Toledo) This scholarship honors the memory of Sister Patricia Ann who was the first and founding President of Mercy College of Northwest Ohio. Her leadership and vision led to the establishment of the College in December 1992. New or current student enrolled in bachelor degree program Sister Phyllis Ann Gerold, RSM Endowed Scholarship for Nursing (Toledo) In 1993 the Board of Trustees of Mercy and St. Charles Hospitals established this fund in recognition and honor of the dedicated leadership and outstanding accomplishments of Sister Phyllis Ann. This endowed scholarship continues her legacy of excellence. Suzanne and Larry Davenport Scholarship Fund (Toledo) The Davenport Scholarship was established in 2016 with a gift from Suzanne and Larry Davenport for the support of students at Mercy College of Ohio. Mr. Davenport serves on the Mercy Health Foundation Greater Toledo Foundation Board. New or current student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 Susanne M. Prusakiewicz Smith and Michael C. Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund (Toledo) A gift from the estate of Willis Smith established this endowed fund in memory of his wife, Susan M. Prusakiewicz Smith, and his son, Michael C. Smith. The purpose of the fund is to further medical laboratory excellence. New or current student Completed FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid Office by February 28 th to demonstrate financial need Mercy College Scramble for Scholarships Golf Scholarship (Toledo and Youngstown) This scholarship is funded by the annual Scramble for Scholarships golf outing. The first scramble was held in October 2008. The goal is to use the proceeds from this event to provide scholarship assistance to new or current students with demonstrated financial need.
