Reducing Incivility in the Workplace (Salon C) Speaker: Allison Norwood, Associate Professor, Adjunct Faculty, Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, Missouri We will focus on the definitions of incivility, bullying, and later violence. The range of behaviors associated with incivility in various settings will be discussed as well as the impact of incivility on nursing education, practice, patients, and health care settings. RN: Resume Writing and Interview Tips (Room 62) Speaker: Hospital Recruiter This session will give you tips to put you ahead of all other applicants when it comes to finding a job! We will go into detail about how to get noticed, how to present yourself, and how to sell yourself when putting together your resume and once you get to the interview process. 10:30am-11:30am RN: Workplace Violence in Health Care (Room 62) Speaker: BJ Whiffen, DNP, RN, ACNP-BC, FNP-BC, Dean of Nursing, Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing & Health Sciences, Cape Girardeau, Missouri Violence in the healthcare workplace is frightening. Also called occupational violence, nurses are particularly affected- 25% of nurses have been physically assaulted by patients or patient s families at least once in their career. The American Nurses Association has recently posted a position paper advocating zero tolerance for workplace violence. This presentation will help nurses understand what is considered workplace violence, identify potential behavior that could lead to workplace violence and what action to actively reduce your risks of becoming a statistic.
