Refunds Due to Medical Issues There will be no administration fee for refunds due to medical reasons (proration still applies). A MEDICAL NOTE must accompany the refund request. Refunds/transfers will be processed according to the date your written request is received by our Department. The Good Food Box We are excited to partner with the York Region Food Network to bring the Good Food Box program to our members! The Good Food Box is a box of fresh fruits & vegetables that is available for pick up once a month. Customers place their orders at the Seniors Centre on or before the 5th day of the month. Each box contains the same mix of foods, but the contents change depending what is in season. The small box is $10 and usually contains potatoes, carrots, onions, apples and a few other items at wholesale prices On the third Thursday of the month, customers pick up their orders, at the Centre, between 1 to 5 p.m. Brochures are available at Reception, or speak to Karie or Andrew if you have any questions. Did You Know? This is a Town of Aurora building. ASA Board of Directors We rent the building for certain hours every week for $45,000 a year, Monday through Friday. Our membership fee and our activity fee covers our rent every year. We have a 5 year contract/agreement with the town, renewed 2016, which determines our hours, extra time and service. The Parking lot is a public lot, with many people using it. We did a survey to see who uses the lot the most and the Seniors use 2/3 of the lot regularly. Everybody needs to make sure they have parked in a designated spot, car pooled or walked as all this will help. There is street parking on both sides of John West Way and behind the Town Hall also. Seniors like to have their cars and we will always have parking issues, but we have to work with it. You pay only 25 cents per cup for coffee and you do know that it costs the Association more to provide it that 25 cents?. If you expect that there is always coffee ready, milk and cream there, then go to Tim Hortons. Don t forget the Reception volunteers take care of this area as well as the front desk. The BBQ and Budget Bistro are a lot of work for a few people. More volunteers are not the answer, as there is not enough room in the kitchen. These volunteers have chosen a number to cook for what they feel comfortable with and we have to respect that. Do you say please and thank you and make new people feel welcome. We were all new at one time. This is a place for our members to feel welcome, safe, have fun, and a place to find new friends and recover from heartache. Ballroom Dance Party! Please join us for an evening of poetry On Friday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lounge. Several members will be reading their own poems. If you would like to also read your poem(s), or if you would like to just come and listen, please sign up at the Reception Desk. This is will be a very casual evening around the fireplace, followed by coffee/tea and discussion. We hope you will join us. New Members for our Book Club The Book Club group that meets regularly on the second and fourth Monday of the month in the Library at the Centre from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. is looking for New Members. Computer Club Information and Activities for October 2017 October is upon us. The summer is over and we are heading towards the end of the year. We will soon be spending much more time indoors. This is the time when signing up for computer classes will increase your knowledge and give you a good reason to return to the Senior Center and be among friends. Consider signing up ahead of time. Next classes are in November. If you are interested in either the Windows course or the Mac course please register early! Space is limited in each class and we also need a minimum number or the class will be cancelled. This Month is a five week month. This means extra seminars, more knowledge to acquire. Technology education: Remember to sign up early: Classes restart in the Fall Computer 1 classes: November 9,16 and 23 from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. taught by Bob and assistant Computer 1 classes covers working with & customizing Windows 10, internet & Email. Computer 2 classes: November 9,16 and 23 at 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.. taught by Bob and assistant. Computer 2 classes covers more advanced functions such as working with photos, organizing your files & working with menus and toolbars. We are running Mac class in November from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with Herb The Mac classes will cover Apple s Sierra OS. Computer Club meetings Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. - We continue to try and cover topics of interest to our members but as always we need your help to know what is of interest to you. Let us know. Tuesday Oct. 31 Facebook with Susan Tuesday afternoon drop-in sessions from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Computer Room. These sessions are run weekly, every Tuesday, with the intent that any member who is looking for any kind of technical help can come by and we will try our best to assist. All the help we provide is covered by your payment of the $1 daily activity fee. We provide one-on-one help in these sessions. Your suggestions and comments about what you might like the computer club to do, courses we could teach or content for our Tuesday sessions is always welcome. Knotty Knitters A warm welcome to the Knotty Knitters. We are at the Seniors Centre from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Mondays throughout the year. We are here all Summer as well. We knit, embroider, crochet, laugh, exchange jokes and family happenings. If we run into a problem on a project, we help each other out. Beginners are also quite welcome. Whatever we knit from donated wool is sold in the showcase in the lobby. All proceeds go back into the Centre. Please do not forget our Annual Christmas Bazaar is on November 4. The Knotty Knitters are busy, busy knitting for this exciting Annual event. You can always find something for that special someone in your life. With the kids back in school, we will have more time to do our knitting, crocheting, etc., and knit away to our hearts content. Fall is here and with it comes a bit of cooler weather. Stop in and have a peek at what the Knotty Knitters have been up to this past Summer and perhaps treat yourself to a warm shawl or sweater. Perhaps a lap blanket for those long, leisurely drives to view those beautiful Fall colours. The hugs and smiles are always free and lasting friendships are formed. So feel free to stop in at any time and stay for a look and chat. We love to talk. If you wish to joins us please do. You will be more than welcome. Remember we are not strangers only friends you have not yet met. Evergreen Choir This past week, our members of the Evergreen Choir received the sheet music containing all the songs we will be singing at our Christmas Concert, Saturday, December 9, at 1.30 p.m. As those of you who have attended our concerts know, the choir sings in four-part harmony soprano, alto, tenor and bass. This is what makes singing in the choir, so interesting and fun. After re-enlistment each year, we normally have around thirty members, singing under the direction of Dr. Richard Heinzle. This season, we have already welcomed some new members, but, for various reasons, we have also lost some, mainly tenors and basses. So, if you have been looking for a new activity, with lots of people who enjoy what they are doing, think of coming to the choir. The nice thing about learning and performing with a lot of people, it s easier to do than standing up alone. Stella Switzer, Chair of the Evergreen Choir. Walking Group Walks are held on Wednesday mornings and are about an hour in length. All walks are on trails in and around Aurora. The terrain may be hilly (as is much of Aurora) and participants should wear appropriate clothing and footwear. We meet each week at 9:30 a.m. at the Seniors Centre and car pool to the starting location, if necessary. No pre-registration is required, just show up. We are always looking for eager members to walk with us, so, come out and join us.
