The etwork has catalyzed or discovered 2,200 solutios stories across the globe. My former studet, Ketica, was the spark for foudig Brave. Ketica grew up i oe of the poorest sectios of New Orleas, the lower 9th ward. She was a bright girl ad had the opportuity to atted oe of the most elite high schools i Louisiaa. For te years, Ketica, her mother ad I focused reletlessly o the itagible aspiratio of college despite the tagible obstacles her family faced every day. Happily, she did go o to college, yet as her graduatio day grew closer, she had t laded a job. The momet we d all dreamed of for a decade ow icluded mouds of debt ad was more like a ecoomic disaster tha someoe who should be o the verge of realizig the America Dream. Ketica ad I rolled up our sleeves ad got to work. I realized Ketica could lear the skills eeded to get a strog first job if she was deliberately taught them like her higher icome peers were taught by their parets. Her ext job will likely move her from havig started college i the bottom icome quartile to beig i the top 20%. She will out-ear both of her parets combied. Years ago, I was set to the Cogo o a U.S. govermet rescue operatio to evacuate people who were beig massacred there.
