The employee-awareness campaigns encourage individuals within the organization to use electricity and other resources more efficiently to help conserve energy and create a culture of energy conservation at their workplace. Environmental ECO Canada The Environmental Employers of the Year Awards Organizations participate in an employee survey. Canadian Awards of Excellence in Environmental Education The Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communication (EECOM) These awards recognize individuals and organizations that have collectively influenced hundreds of thousands of Canadian citizens, and helped implement one of EECOM s key goals - to advance environmental learning, ensuring Canadians are environmentally literate, engaging in environmental stewardship and contributing to a healthy future. Annual Living Planet @ Work Awards World Wildlife Federation (WWF) Winners are leaders who are creating environmental advocates at every level to take action. They are leading the wave of environmental change at work, developing best practices and inspiring others to learn and follow suit. Specifically, it honours those who are empowering employees to practice sustainable behaviour, engage in WWF s campaigns and those who are taking that all-important step to fundraise for and enable the critical conservation programs led by WWF-Canada. The Green 30 List Hewitt Associates The list is compiled from employee feedback using Hewitt s Employee Green Index which focuses on employers strategies, activities and efforts to minimize the environmental impact of their operations, products and services. www.hewitt.com/bestemployerscanada Organizations that participate in Hewitt s employee engagement surveys for either Best Employers in Canada (400+ employees) or Best Small and Medium Employers in Canada (50-399 employees) are automatically considered for the Green 30 List. Organizations register on-line to take participate in the survey. Must conduct the surveys by June 2015 for 2016 8

BOMA Awards of Excellence: Earth Award Building Owners and Managers The Earth Awards are recognition of excellence in resource preservation and environmentally sound commercial building management. Awards are presented In the Spring Canadian Local Associations hold their respective local Awards Galas. Building inspections take place at this level of competition. Dec June at local level to buildings that have made significant efforts to address TOBY Award Association Each Canadian Local Association may submit environmental issues faced by older and newer buildings. (BOMA) one building in each category to the National Judging is based on a building description & summary, competition. reduction of environmental risk, indoor air quality & green cleaning, recycling, energy conservation, water conservation, interior finish, green purchasing policy, occupant communications & education, and a case study. Each building must have valid BOMA BESt certification. Winners at the local level will receive an invitation to enter into the BOMA Canada National Awards along with a registration form, directly from BOMA Canada. Once qualified, national applicants are provided access to the BOMA International online awards portal where they can upload their entries. The online system is also used for judging at the national level. The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY ) Awards is the most prestigious and comprehensive program of its kind in the commercial real estate industry recognizing quality in commercial real estate buildings and rewarding excellence in building management. During the competition, all facets of a building s operations are thoroughly evaluated. Entries are judged on everything from community involvement to environmental and sustainability management. TOBY winners are recognized in specific categories of building size or type. PR Daily Awards Ragan Ragan have PR and communication awards that are open to all organizations. There are many categories that include two that are most relevant to WCA employee engagement efforts: Entries are a on-line, a 1,000 word synopsis of your communications project. March 5 Green Initiative: This is one corporate fad that s not going away. It s a fact that U.S. (and North American) corporations set the green example for the rest of the world. We want to hear in detail what your company has done to green itself, its workers and its community. Corporate Social Responsibility: Customers want to know your company is socially responsible. This could mean being a responsible steward of the environment, giving back to your local community, caring for your employees well-being, or lending your voice (or financial support) to a worthy cause. What have you done to spread this message and improve your organization s or client s reputation? 10

AASHE Sustainability Awards The Association for the Advancement Awards in three categories: 1. Examples of research topics that we are looking to celebrate: Campus sustainability best practices and case studies Campus sustainability costs and benefits Relationships between campus sustainability and other indicators such as number and/or quality of applicants for admission, alumni donations, number and/or quality of job applicants, campus employee satisfaction, etc. Comparative evaluations of diverse approaches to campus sustainability Assessments of the effectiveness of strategies used to foster sustainability on campus 11

Energy and Environmental Canadian College The Energy and Environmental Stewardship Award, courtesy the Canadian College of Health Leaders Nominations must be made by a member of the College. Watch for new 2015 date in Stewardship of Health and Honeywell, recognizes a progressive health January 2015. Nomination template is provided. Award Leaders and care organization that has implemented programs Honeywell that demonstrate environmental responsibility through the reduction of energy usage, the preservation of natural resources and effective waste diversion solutions. Possible programs include the implementation of energy efficient building systems and solutions, comprehensive energy and environmental awareness programs, waste management initiatives, and green procurement practices. All Canadian healthcare organizations are eligible for this award, regardless of size. However, the following criteria must be satisfied: demonstrate steps taken to ensure sustainability of environmental initiatives (i.e. energy conservation; water savings; waste disposal and/or diversion initiatives); show evidence of results achieved through the implementation of environmental initiatives; illustrate initiatives taken to engage staff and the community; explain how these initiatives have resulted in an improvement in the overall indoor environment for patients and staff; and provide evidence that a culture of sustainability and environmental leadership are in line with the corporate business plan endorsed by the senior management team. 12

FCM Awards of Excellence Federation of Canadian Municipalities FCM Awards of Excellence recognize and celebrate excellence in municipal leadership and practice, both in Canada and abroad. Award categories range from innovation in sustainable practices to involvement in international municipal cooperation. Eligible submissions must meet the following criteria: Initiatives must take a holistic, systems approach* to sustainable community development. Energy Projects: Municipally led projects or programs that focus on producing, conserving or distributing energy, as well as leading community energy plans, climate change action plans and local action plans recognized under Milestone 3 of the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program, and monitoring and verification plans or reports recognized under Milestone 5 of the program. An award may be granted for both a plan and a project. Eligible initiatives include the production of energy from renewable sources (e.g. solar, wind, geothermal, small-scale hydro), energy-efficiency retrofits, energy conservation programs, and district energy systems. 13

TechGREEN Award Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC) Nominations will be accepted from members of the Association, Corporations and Organizations contributing to a green economy and sustainable society. Consideration will be given to those who take a lead role or have a substantial involvement in initiatives that have a positive impact on green living, sustainable best practices, energy conservation and environmental benefit. Golden Eagle Awards SKI and National Ski Areas Association This is the ski industry s most prestigious honor for recognizing resort environmental programs and projects. The award was set up to encourage sustainability and recognize resorts for their commitment and proven results to environmental programs. Must be a member of the National Ski Areas Association to apply. http://www.nsaa.org/environment/golden-eagle-awards/ The resort awards are divided into three categories: small (fewer than 200,000 annual skier/boarder visits), medium (200,000 to 500,000 visits) and large (more than 500,000 visits). This award recognizes leadership and accomplishment in the energy efficiency field. Winners will be selected based on demonstrated excellence in the following categories: Energy Policy: Excellence in energy policy including writing, educating, promoting, or supporting energy efficiency in energy policy, at the federal, state, or local level.
