This is an exciting year in the history of our school as we mark the 50th anniversary of Glenbard North. While it is great to celebrate our rich history and roots, it is also good to remember that each year is a fresh start! No matter how your child performed in school last year, he or she has the potential to do great things this year! Your positive attitude, encouragement, and consistent involvement along with the dedication and talent of our skilled staff provide the necessary tools to inspire our students and allow them to take the lead for their personal growth and academic success. Parent/Teacher conferences are a great way to be involved and encourage your child academically. Please be sure to schedule a conference taking advantage of the opportunity to sit down with your child's teachers and discuss their curriculum and academic progress. We encourage students to participate in worthwhile student organizations and activities because our school considers such participation to be vital to our students' educational welfare. Students should gain skills by working effectively together in democratic groups. Research has repeatedly shown that students who actively engage in co-curricular activities generally do better in school. Student organizations and activities offer an opportunity for students to develop wholesome relationships with adults; and the teachers have Parent / Teacher Conferences Wednesday, October 25 4:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, October 26 2:00 to 6:00 PM Early Dismissal at 1:05 PM Wednesday, October 25 Thursday, October 26 No School - Friday, October 27 Student Attendance On days when your student must be absent from school please do the following: Call the Attendance Office 630-653-9092 prior to 10:00 AM each day of the student is absent. Yearbook I n formation Prestige Portraits 630-910-6800 Make-up dates for seniors who did not take their formal senior yearbook portraits over the summer for the 2018 Aquilo are: Monday, October 2 Tuesday, October 3 Wednesday, October 4 Thursday, October 5 Portrait appointments, which must be scheduled in advance, may be arranged after school in the Glenbard North Auditorium from 3:00 PM until 7:30 PM on October 2, 3, 4 and from 3:00 PM until 6:30 PM on October 5. Appointments for these dates can be made by calling Prestige Portraits at 630-910-6800 and selecting option #5. This single picture is free and can be quickly taken outside the cafeteria during all lunch periods. Please note that seniors who do not take advantage of these opportunities at Glenbard North need to contact Prestige Portraits directly and travel on their own to have their "formal"

Underclassmen retakes will take place during lunch periods on October 16. Yearbooks may ONLY be ordered online. Cost is $55 through December 1, then increases to $60. Click here to order a 2018 yearbook. PSAT Exam Resources Dr. David Larson Superintendent An important testing date is approaching on October 11. Glenbard North freshmen will take the PSAT8/9, and sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). These tests, which are part of the SAT suite of assessments, help our students prepare to take the SAT. In Illinois, the revised SAT has replaced the ACT as the college entrance exam that all juniors take in the spring. The PSAT8/9 sets a college readiness baseline. When we have national test data about students early in their high school career, we can intervene to help students stay on track for post-high school experiences. Students who take the PSAT may enter the National Merit Scholarship Program. They also typically do better on the SAT. The following are features of the revised SAT and its related preliminary tests: Free Khan Academy Help All students who take the PSAT8/9 and PSAT/NMSQT can receive personalized online SAT practice through Khan Academy, a free online resource. Personalized practice is based on students' performance on the exam and

includes video lessons and practice questions. Free online tool empowers students to strengthen essential skills. Students can create study plans based on their test results. We urge students to link their College Board and Khan Academy accounts when they receive their PSAT 8/9 or PSAT/NMSQT results. Khan Academy will use a student's test results to generate specific practice recommendations based on an actual assessment. The suite of SAT assessments measures student growth in readiness. The benchmarks of the PSAT 8/9, PSAT and SAT provide us and you with critical information about students' progress and readiness. I encourage you to tap into the

resources of Khan Academy and the College Board as your student prepares for these important tests. Panther of the Qu arter Each quarter during the year, faculty and staff have the opportunity to recommend a student to receive the Panther of the Quarter recognition.
