INTRODUCTION The United Nations Association in Canada (UNA-Canada) is a national charitable organization established in 1946 based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Our mandate is to engage the Canadian public in the work of the United Nations and the critical international issues that affect us all. The Association offers individual Canadians a window into the work of the UN, and a channel through which to become engaged in the critical international issues affecting us all. By creating links between the work of the UN and the lives of Canadians, UNA-Canada is helping to build a better United Nations. The Calgary Branch of UNA-Canada is incorporated pursuant to the Alberta Societies Act. The affairs of the branch are controlled and managed by its Calgary based Board of Directors who are volunteers and are responsible for policy decision, action, and for oversight of general branch operations. UNAC-Calgary partners with local organizations to engage our community in the work of the United Nations and key human rights and environmental issues. UNAC-Calgary supports projects in alignment with our mandate and those that contribute to the betterment of our society. Our goal is draw links between local and global concerns and to introduce values and principles of the United Nations with respect to human rights, youth and education, immigration and the environment though education and various local initiatives. UNAC-CALGARY FUNDING MANDATE UNAC-Calgary provides funding support for engagement opportunities within our local community. We focus on causes that educate or involve the participation of Calgarians, particularly youth, in activities whose primary theme is related to mandates of the United Nations: Youth and Education, Human Rights, and the Environment; with the purpose of benefiting all Canadians. Preference will be given to projects with a direct link to United Nations themes or topics. Should you have a project or initiative that meets our mandate, please complete the funding application below and we will gladly evaluate your needs. Youth & Education The education mandate focuses on teaching youth and children about the United Nations and global issues from a Canadian perspective, including the value and recognition of the importance of education Canadians about the world in which we live. Environment UNAC- Calgary engages dialogue respectful of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) mission: to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without comprising that of future generations. Human Rights The human rights mandate promotes and protects the enjoyment and full realization of all people, of all rights established in the Charter of the United Nations and the international human rights law and treaties. It prevents human rights violations, securing respect for all human rights, promoting international cooperation to protect human rights and coordinating activities that promote human rights awareness in our community. Our goal is to introduce our community to the values and principles of the United Nations with respect to human rights through education and various local activities. We strive to promote inclusiveness where all citizens can enjoy full participation of Canadian society. PROJECT PROPOSALS UNAC-Calgary invites funding proposals from students, community members, charities, faculty, local organizations and any person(s) looking to promote international causes and issues at a local level so long as they are in alignment with UNAC- Calgary s funding mandate. Please note that UNAC-Calgary does not provide funds for international development work, as this is beyond the purview of our mandate 1 P a g e

INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS 1. Applications are reviewed for completeness and eligibility. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. 2. Funding priorities may limit the number of grants and/or the amount approved. 3. Applicants will be advised of the receipt of their application. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA The United Nations Association in Canada, Calgary will evaluate projects based on the following: 1. The project clearly aligns with at least one of UNAC-Calgary s mandates (see description of mandates) 2. The project will benefit either: a. A large number of Calgarians; b. A large part of your target group; c. A significant impact to the benefactors of your project APPLICATION DEADLINES & PROCESSING OF APPLICATIONS Applications will be reviewed quarterly (every 3 months) throughout the year. Please note that up to 3 months is required to review and approve all funding applications. For example, if an application is received for the June 30 th deadline, the applicant will be notified by September 30 th. To avoid any unnecessary delays, please ensure that your application is fully complete and a current email address is provided as you may be contacted in order to receive more information. You will be contacted by UNAC-Calgary s Director of External Partnerships upon receipt of your application and notified by email on the status of your funding application. TERMS AND CONDITIONS If a funding proposal is approved by UNAC-Calgary: 1. UNAC-Calgary and the grant recipient will sign a completed Request for Funding Application 2. The funding agreement will outline the approved terms and conditions, including reporting and recognition requirements 3. The funding for approved grants will be mailed to the recipient once funds are approved by the board within 3 months of the application deadline 4. The funds will be used solely for the purpose for which a grant is made 5. If the recipient does not comply with the terms and conditions on which funding was made, or if the information provided by the recipient to obtain the funding is determined to be false, misleading or inaccurate, UNAC-Calgary may require the recipient to repay all, or part of the funds to UNAC-Calgary. An amount that a recipient is required to repay to UNAC-Calgary is a debt due to UNAC-Calgary and may be recovered from the recipient by an action in debt 6. The recipient will provide information as requested and allow UNAC-Calgary to examine any books or records that will enable UNAC-Calgary to determine whether the recipient is complying with the conditions of funding, as per the funding agreement 7. Both the recipient and UNAC-Calgary will recognize the financial contribution made by UNAC-Calgary toward the project. The recipient acknowledges that this recognition may include the name of the recipient and details of the project 8. The recipient will report (please refer to Outcomes section on page 6 of the Request for Funding Application) on the outcomes of the project within 3 months of the project end date to the UNAC-Calgary, Director of External Partnerships.
