Funding Subsidy industrial R&D Context : Framework for state aid for research, development and innovation Support as direct state aid (European competitiveness rules do apply) Allowed with a max % of subsidy in order to alleviate market failure (such as underinvestment in R&D&I because of knowledge spillovers) An incentive effect is necessary - additionality criterion Industrial research: 50%, experimental development: 25% 4
Funding Subsidy industrial R&D 5 main selection criteria: Incentive effect (Economic) impact of the project transformation via innovation (transition, break trough innovation, diversification, modernisation) Potential to realize the impact Objectives Potential to realize the objectives 5

Collaboration in industrial R&D Industrial R&D projects: Collaboration between companies themselves Collaboration between companies and research institutes (as subcontractors) Specific project types: Collaboration with research institutes as partners (ICON) Research institutes: non economic activities supported at 100% Companies: industrial R&D at state aid percentages International collaboration Funding of the Flemish partner of an international consortium (e.g. ERA-NET, EUREKA, ) 8
Funding Collaboration in specific programs Programs for activities with a collective character ( e.g. TETRA) PhDs and post doctoral research in close collaboration with industry (Baekeland and innovation mandate) Clusters (e.g. CATALISTI) Structural networks of companies and RTOs: basic funding and project funding Market oriented Top down, thematic International research and innovation
Funding TETRA Technology transfer: immediate integration to a large group of companies Disclose existing knowledge, dissemmination, stimulation of innovation Impact on higher education Main applicant = Higher education Institute Subsidy: 92,5% Users Commitee: with co-funding (7,5%) Duration: 2 years https://www.iwt.be/subsidies/tetra https://www.iwt.be/nieuws/de-oproep-tetra-2017-2018-staat-open 10
