Enhancing and enlarging the partnership
Develop global indicators for each of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets SBSTTA 15 Recommendation XV/1: Further develop global indicators identified in annex I... witha view to ensuring that each Aichi Biodiversity Target can be monitored by at least one global indicator by 2014, taking into account indicators that are already in use by, or relevant to, other conventions, regional agreements and processes.

Inclusion of Partners BIP to take a flexible and inclusive approach Existing indicators/indicator ready data sets Guidance document produced for new partners Few simple criteria: Essential Indicator(s) relevant to one or more of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets Temporal trend data available or a developed baseline Plans in place to continue indicator production and produce regular updates not an isolated one-off study Indicator applicable at the global or regional scale Desired Indicator can be disaggregated by country Indicator data updated annually Data freely available via website, publication, etc Peer reviewed in scientific literature Issue to be addressed review/validation process

A Vision for the BIP and national and regional indicator capacity development?: Countries are developing and using indicators to fulfill their updated NBSAPs within the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 Countries have the capacity, confidence and support to develop indicators for their NBSAPs BIP partners are able to promote their indicators and capacity to support others.
