JOHN DRAKE MEMORAL SCHOLARSHP 2017 TERMS AND CONDTONS OF THE JOHN DRAKE MEMORAL SCHOLARSHP DETALS OF SCHOLARSHP 1. The Scholarship shall be known as a John Drake Memorial Scholarship. 2. The number of Scholarships to be offered shall vary from year to year. 3. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand. 4. Each John Drake Memorial Scholarship 2016 will have a maximum value of $5,000 each per annum and be tenable initially for one year with a maximum tenure of three years. The Scholarship will be credited in one payment directly towards tuition fees to during December (for A and B Semester papers respectively) of the year in the student is awarded the Scholarship. 5. To receive the fees credit for the Scholarship students are required to pass all papers in the semester which the fees credit is to cover. n special circumstances, students who do not achieve the required academic standard may appeal to the Selection Panel for special consideration. 6. Extension of the tenure of the Scholarships is dependent on satisfactory academic progress and sporting achievement as determined by the Trustees of the John Drake Memorial Scholarship fund. Recipients of the Scholarships do not need to re-apply in order to be eligible for an extension of the tenure of the Scholarships but will be automatically considered for re awarding, for the second and third years of their tuition (where applicable). 7. The offer of the Scholarship is subject to the candidate fulfilling all requirements for admission to the University of Auckland and enrolling in a full-time programme of study in the year of tenure. 8. The Scholarship shall be administered by the John Drake Memorial Scholarship Fund through the University of Auckland. 9. The initial selection criteria will be based on academic merit, sporting potential and involvement in community and club activities. 10. The Selection Panel will comprise of trustees of the John Drake Memorial Scholarship Fund. 11. The Selection Panel reserves the right to permanently or temporarily withhold payments of the Scholarship should performance of the recipient not be satisfactory, at any time, in any regard.
JOHN DRAKE MEMORAL SCHOLARSHP 2017 12. Applications for the 2017 Scholarship will close on 9 th September 2016. 13. Along with a completed application form, applicants are to include a curriculum vitae which highlights the student's eligibility in terms of the following selection criteria: - Sporting achievements; - Personal achievements; - 3 references; - Personal statement of why the applicant believes they should be the recipient. (Roughly 500 words) 14. Applicants enrolling at the University of Auckland for the first time in the year of tenure are also to include certified copies of the most recent secondary school results which are available, and proof of New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency. 15. The Scholarship may be recognised at an annual function organised to promote scholarships more widely throughout the University, or at a function organised by the Trustees. 16. The Selection Panel may refrain from making a recommendation if it finds no candidates of sufficient merit. 17. n exceptional circumstances a Scholarship may be shared. The Trustees of the John Drake Memorial Scholarship fund shall determine how the Scholarship is to be shared in such cases. 18. The successful applicant shall keep a player's diary which will be posted on the website and regularly updated. 19. The holder of a Scholarship shall have the right to appeal to the trustees of the John Drake Memorial Scholarship against any decision to terminate the award, however any decision of the trustees on appeal, shall be final.
