SHARING STRATEGIES FOR EUROPEAN RESEARCH AND INNOVATION INFRASTRUCTURES

ABOUT THE PROJECT The goal of the Sharing Strategies for European Research and Innovation Infrastructures (INNO INFRA SHARE) project is to improve the accessibility and the exploitation of local Research and Innovation infrastructure (RII) assets by SMEs. RIIs have the potential to serve as enablers of competitiveness and growth for local SMEs and foreign users, especially in the areas of Key Enabling Technologies (KETs). To unleash this potential, project partners from eight EU countries jointly work towards adding a market-driven dimension to the research and technological one, by networking and promoting collaboration opportunities at regional and international level and by addressing national and regional RIIs relevant policy instruments. Partners undertake a joint learning and collaboration process, involving regional and national stakeholders, that will contribute to the design and implementation of 8 Action Plans in their respective territories to improve policy instruments that will positively affect RIIs and improve their accessibility by SMEs. RESULTS SMEs in partner regions will benefit from a better access to RIIs and an increased collaboration with research organizations to improve their innovation performance. A more precise and detailed picture of local RII ecosystems will be available for regional and national policymakers and SMEs. National and regional policies addressing RIIs will be improved thanks to the contributions provided by the Action Plans. Partners will gain an opportunity to benchmark their RII ecosystems with other EU hubs of RII excellence, learn from the best practices in other regions and transfer the experience to improve their own RII ecosystems.

PROJECT APPROACH 02 03 LEARNING 01 UNDERSTANDING OF INTERREGIONAL LOCAL CONDITIONS POLICY IMPROVEMENT Regional context profile Overall characteristics of the regional innovation systems and Smart Specialization Strategies. Serves as a knowledge base for further analysis and experience exchange among partners. Mapping of RIIs Identification of the most relevant RIIs in the partner regions, including their main needs and exploitation potential. Creates an overview of the RIIs in the regions and of the opportunities to improve policy instruments. Allows knowledge sharing and mutual learning between partners, provides information for SMEs on available RIIs. INVOLVEMENT OF LOCAL STAKEHOLDERS Good practices Identifying and sharing of good practices that demonstrate positive elements as well as challenges in the use of RIIs. Enables learning from experiences in other regions, to share and to re-use this knowledge and to develop local Action Plans to improve RII accessibility. Study visits to 4 regions in The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Sweden to exchange knowledge and ideas between the partner-regions. Peer review meetings to learn from each other and explore possible collaboration opportunities. Elaboration and implementation of local Action Plans to improve policy instruments that will positively affect RIIs and improve their accessibility by SMEs.

WHAT IS RII? RESEARCH AND INNOVATION INFRASTRUCTURE Research and innovation infrastructures are organizations that offer services to users to support the translation of technologies into actual business, useful products and solutions. Core to the organisation is the availability of state-of-the-art and innovation-oriented technology infrastructure and experts than can provide support to business innovation activity. www.interregeurope.eu/innoinfrashare/ @InnoInfraShare INNO INFRA SHARE LinkedIn group This project is implemented with the support of Interreg Europe programme 2014-2020.
