Purpose and Objectives The conference will provide practitioners with the most recent advances and information that will enhance knowledge, skills, and performance in the treatment and diagnosis of selected infectious diseases. At the end of this program, the participants should be able to: List recently marketed drugs available in the U.S. that can be used to treat infections due to bacteria resistant to many other anti-infective drugs State infectious risks of some important so-called biologic therapy drugs as well as ways to mitigate risk Discuss recent therapeutic developments, i.e., drugs, monoclonal antibody treatment, fecal biotherapy, and recent developments in guidelines for Clostridium difficile Describe issues involved in pre-exposure prophylaxis as provided by the non-hiv specialist and identify other issues of contemporary concern, such as linkage to care Identify major classes of issues that need attention in a pre-travel consultation, such as traveler s diarrhea, malaria, and immunizations Discuss benefits of antimicrobial stewardship programs and issues involved in day-to-day implementation Outline special issues of concern to a clinician managing a patient already diagnosed with Hepatitis C, including the role of the most recently marketed drugs in the U.S., the role of FibroScan testing, appropriate screening for hepatocellular carcinoma, and the approach to a patient coinfected with HIV and Hepatitis C Planning Committee: Marvin J.
