Unit Reps Are appointed and shall be in attendance at all meetings. If unable to attend an SMP meeting, the unit representative is responsible for notifying the alternate and ensuring that they are briefed appropriately in order to effectively participate in the meeting in place of the appointed representative. Disseminate information to all single service members in their units and serve on committees and subcommittees as required. Are responsible for establishing a board of Marines and Sailors in their units to address all QOL issues. Initiate and attend formations, meetings, and other forums for their unit to communicate SMP Council issues and plans. Solicit ideas from single Marines and Sailors within their units and share these ideas at SMP Council meetings. Bring to the SMP Council's attention any issues concerning single Marines and Sailors. Distribute information from SMP Council meetings to their respective commanders. Actively promote the SMP. 2
SMP Functional Area Inspection Points for Units 967 02 001 Is unit SMP Representative is appointed in writing at all levels through Battalions/Squadrons/ recruiting stations. Is a copy is on file with the Base Single Marine Program Coordinator? Reference MCO 1700.36A Par 4.B (9)(A) You must have a letter on file with the SMP coordinator to meet this criteria 967 02 002 Is time is set aside for the unit Representative to meet, solicit ideas, and raise issues with the Marines of the Unit for presentation at the installation SMP meetings? Reference MCO 1700.36A Par 4.B (9)(C) You must be able to show meeting notes or other proof of such meetings 967 02 003 Is the SMP unit Representative is attending all monthly SMP meetings? Reference MCO 1700.36A Par 4.B (9)(G) and ENCL (7) PAR 4 (A) The appointed Unit Reps must attend and sign in at every monthly SMP meeting. 967 02 004 Is the unit representative briefing his/her command on issues/ initiatives that are currently being addressed, along with the events and activities that are planned? SMP Volunteer Opportunities April 2014 All unit reps that volunteer with SMP are provided a LOA for their volunteer time. Pre-registration is required or no LOA will be issued. These opportunities are open only to single Marines and Sailors aboard Camp Pendleton. Participants will provide their own transportation to the volunteer opportunities listed below unless otherwise stated. All volunteer opportunities during normal work hours require acommand permission slip sign off for registration to be completed. Slips are available at www.mccscp.com/smp. To register and for questions please call SMP HQ at 760-725-6288. SMP HQ hours of operation: 0730-1600, Monday thru Friday. Retirement Home Visits. Have dinner with the residents. Charlies are the requested uniform for these events. Max of 6-10volunteers needed for each opportunity. Each event begins at 1600. 4/8- Rancho Vista Retirement Home 4/9- Pacific Place Retirement Home 4/24-Belmont Retirement Home 4/30- Fairwinds Retirement Home 5/2-0600-1600. Kids PE Fitness Challenge. Volunteers will host an all day fitness challenge at a localelementary or middle school. 0600 all patrons must meet at the Paige Fieldhouse parking lot, building 1110. Please eat breakfast before arriving. Attire will be the Marine Corps running suit with green ptshorts and plain skivishirt underneath (no unit logos or rank insignia). Lunch will be provided. All participants must use the provided transportation (no POVs). 40 volunteers are needed for this event. 4/2, 16, 30-1000. Base Stables Volunteer Day. Camp Pendleton Stables, bldg1516. Participants will help clean and groom horses, clean stalls, and help with general maintenance at the stables. Uniform of the day is civilian attire. Closed toed shoes are required. A maximum of 10 participants are needed for this opportunity. 5/31 & 6/1, 7, 8-0500 World Famous Mud Run Volunteer Opportunity.Volunteers are needed for each of the4 races. Uniform of the day is boots and utes. This event takes place at Lake O'Neil. The benefits of volunteering in the Hard Corps Race Series events are: $10 per volunteer towards theunit & Family ReadinessFunds, $10 MCX Gift Certificate, Race Day T-Shirt, Breakfast / Noon Meal, a Letter of Appreciation from MCCS, and the opportunity to earn hours toward a Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. PTSA is requesting volunteers for their Annual Jog-a-Thon. The location will be: 110 Marine Drive Oceanside, CA. 92058. Mary Fay Pendleton School (located on Camp Pendleton in the DeLuz housing area) on: Thursday, April 10 th @ 0830. The Jog-a-Thon is an annual event at Mary Fay Pendleton School where students run around the track and are sponsored based on the number of laps that they complete. All monies that are collected go towards the students of Mary Fay Pendleton for Field Trips, Teacher Enrichment and School Improvements. Avocado Half Marathon and 5k in Fallbrook. It will take place April 12th and start at 7:15 am. Duties include: safety, traffic control and cheering for the event. Transportation from albertsonsparking lot in Fallbrook will be provided along with food and drink. All volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation. Oceanside American Little League has requested Marines that are looking to volunteer in the community, more specifically with Kids from Oceanside. They are in need of Umpires for our League on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 5:30-8:00 PM and on Saturdays from 10:00-4:00pm. The season runs thru June. The most exciting thing about becoming a Volunteer Umpire is the respect and appreciation from the Kids and the Parents, not to mention they also feed their Volunteers after every game. Next Step Service Dogs rescues and trains shelter dogs to be service dogs, provides service dogs at no cost to veterans and active military, and greatly reduces the anxiety and stress of those with PTSD. SMP Trips/Events April/May 2014 Advanced sign up required-space is limited. For all SMP trips register at the SMP HQ Office building 1253 or with your local Recreation Center Manager. Trips/ Eventsare open only tosinglemarines and Sailors stationed at Camp Pendleton. Trips/events with a cost will only be reserved with full payment. All trips require a command permission slip signoff for registration to be completed. Theseslips may be faxed, emailed, or dropped off at SMP HQ. Paintball Tournament. Camp Pendleton Paintball Park. This is a FREE event for up to 16 fiveperson teams. All equipment, paint and lunch will be provided. Prizes for 1st-3rd place teams. Teams captain must register their teams and have names assigned for each person, as well as team name for group. Registration for this event begins March 11th at 0730. 4/25-1400-2200. Medieval Times. $20 per person includes transportation, dinner and a show. Space is limited. Registration begins April 8th @ 0730. 5/9-11-White Water Rafting.$60 per person includes transportation, food at the camp site, camping gear and one full day of white water rafting. Registration begins April 8th @ 0730. 5/16-0700-1700. Spa Day Trip. $20 per person includes transportation to and from Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa, entrance fee and Grotto Treatment. Registration begins April 8th @ 0730. 5/23-26-Las Vegas Trip.$80 per person includes transportation and lodging.
