PAGE 2 SAL Squadron #39 VOLUME XII, ISSUE I Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires. Greetings, Your local Sons of the American Legion will look back proudly on 2017. Under popular Commander Mark Long, Post 39 gave thousands of dollars to worthy causes across the region, from veterans organizations to individuals recovering from family trauma. Yet the post ended the year with pretty much the same amount of money than it had one year ago. How did that happen? It happened thanks to the energy and commitment shown by all Post 39 members, through their attendance at monthly meetings, their recruitment of new members, and their willingness to sell raffle tickets and to help out at fundraising meals. It happened through the generosity of local merchants who donated heating oil and wood. Special thanks go to resident pit -master Eddie Cowan, who sources the food for our barbecues and cooks it to perfection on his mobile propane grill. At the Sons December meeting, members voted $500 for The Maine Children s Home for Little Wanderers. The YMCA Camp of Maine received $100 to help send a military family s boy or girl to summer camp. And the Skowhegan chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution received a $50 contribution toward the repair of the sundial in Coburn Park. Respectfully submitted, Sam Whitmore, Adjutant Mark Long, SAL Commander Ron Page, Chairman of SAL Want to know what s going on at YOUR Legion? Come to the meeting on February 5th!
