P a g e 3 SECTION D: PROPOSED RESEARCH BUDGET It is compulsory to complete the amount required for tuition fees. Any queries regarding the budget to be submitted must be directed to your supervisor. No amendments to the submitted budget will be considered after awards have been made. The Selection Committee reserves the right NOT to approve a submitted budget. The MAXIMUM budget per qualification is R55,000 for Masters and R120,000 per Doctoral (not per annum). Research expenses and/or credit balances must be claimed 1 before 15 November of any academic year. Only Research funds as approved by the selection committee will be processed. P a g e 8 SECTION G: BURSARY CRITERIA i) REQUIREMENTS 1. This bursary does not cover any Coursework Masters qualifications. 2. A supervisor s report that recommends financial support on the basis of quality submissions e.g. research chapters submitted, data analyses etc. 3. Approval by the Masters and Doctoral Experimental Research Bursary Committee (MDERBC) based on academic progress and standard of work submitted and/or conducted. 4. Awards are dependent on available funding. ii) BURSARY CONDITIONS 1. All bursary awards, including the first one, are conditional upon receipt of a positive report from the student s supervisor. Detailed progress reports and reapplication forms for each subsequent year of funding, must be submitted to the Directorate Student Funding (DSF) annually. 2. Bursaries are not awarded to permanent staff members of UNISA. They should apply for the Master s and Doctoral Support Programme (MDSP). 3. Students who are registered for a second Masters or Doctoral degree will not be considered for a bursary. 4. This bursary will ONLY fund students registered for Masters or Doctoral qualifications in experimental research. 5. The bursary is awarded to South African and non-south African citizens, but preference will be given to South African students. 6. Continued receipt of the bursary is dependent on a favourable supervisor s report indicating that the recipient is progressing with his/her studies. Preference will be given to existing bursary holders, especially those close to completion. 7. Students need to submit a student s report (Section E) before the application will be submitted for consideration to the Masters and Doctoral Experimental Research Bursary Committee (MDERBC). 8. Granting of the bursary is not automatic. Only students who apply will be considered. 9. Students are responsible for submitting their refund document for stipendium payments. (The refund form will be forwarded to successful applicants together with the bursary contract).
P a g e 9 10. A maximum of R5,400 is paid per month for stipendium. (As approved by the MDERBC) 11. Students will be advised of the outcome within 2 weeks of applying. 12. By signing this application form, the student indicates that he/she agrees with and accepts the conditions contained herein. 13. Application does not guarantee that funding will be awarded. 14. Important: Permanent or Fixed Contract employees must apply for the Unisa Staff Masters and Doctoral Support Program as staff members are excluded from this Postgraduate Bursary.
