Dr. Gerhard Fettweis - TU Dresden Germany (chair) Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Gerhard FETTWEIS earned his Dipl.-Ing. and Ph.D. degrees from Aachen University of Technology (RWTH) in Germany. From 1990 to 1991 he was a Visiting Scientist at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA, working on signal processing for disk drives. From 1991 to 1994 he was with TCSI Inc., Berkeley, CA, responsible for signal processor developments. Since September 1994 he holds the Vodafone Chair at Technische Universität Dresden, Germany. The chair's current focus lies on physical layer research, with a special emphasis on wireless radio network challenges, wireless modems, and IC implementation architectures, which fulfil 5G requirements. In 2012 he received the Honorary Doctorate from Tampere University. Since 2015, he serves as co-chair of the IEEE 5G Initiative Steering Committee. Prof. Gerhard P. Fettweis is currently coordinating three sophisticated and international recognized initiatives: Cluster of Excellence (CoE) "center for Advancing Electronics Dresden" (cfaed), Collaborative Research Center (CRC) "Highly Adaptive Energy-Efficient Computing" (HAEC), and 5G Lab Germany. He is also well known as a serial entrepreneur. He co-founded 12 high-tech start-up companies, mainly in the mobile networks and semiconductor design domain. Furthermore, he serves on company supervisory boards, and on industrial as well as research institutes advisory committees. Deborah Crawford George Mason University (GMU), US Deborah Crawford, PhD, is Vice President for Research at George Mason University. Crawford joined Mason in April 2016 from the International Computer Science Institute, an independent research institute affiliated with the University of California Berkeley, where she served as President and Executive Director. Prior to that, Crawford was Senior Vice Provost for Research at Drexel University. She also spent 17 years at the National Science Foundation (NSF), where she held a number of executive positions, including Deputy for Computer and Information Science and Engineering and founding Director of NSF's Office of Cyberinfrastucture. Before joining NSF, Crawford held positions at AT&T Bell Labs, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and the GEC Hirst Research Center, where her research interests were in nano-electronic and -photonic devices and systems. Crawford has a PhD in Information Systems Engineering and received here BSc Eng (Honors) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. She twice received the Presidential Rank Award for her service to science and engineering research and education - for Distinguished Service in 2010 and for Meritorious Service in 2006. 2

Dr. Amitabha Ghosh - North America Radio Systems Research, Nokia, US Dr. Amitabha Ghosh is a Nokia Fellow and Head, Small Cell Research at Nokia Bell Labs. He joined Motorola in 1990 after receiving his Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from Southern Methodist University, Dallas. Since joining Motorola he worked on multiple wireless technologies starting from IS-95, cdma-2000, 1xEV-DV/1XTREME, 1xEV-DO, UMTS, HSPA, 802.16e/WiMAX and 3GPP LTE. Dr. Ghosh has 60 issued patents, has written multiple book chapters and has authored numerous external and internal technical papers. He is currently working on 3GPP LTE-Advanced and 5G technologies. His research interests are in the area of digital communications, signal processing and wireless communications. He is a Fellow of IEEE and co- author of the book titled Essentials of LTE and LTE-A. Mr. Leif Johansson National Instruments, Sweden Leif Johansson is a Principal Engineer RF Communication Market development at National Instruments based out of the office in Kista Sweden. Leif is an industry veteran having spent the last 30-year in the T&M industry specializing on RF, Communication and SDR. In his current position, Leif is responsible for the coordination of NI s collaboration with top researchers focused on wireless research via external research consortia and research institutions. He is also managing relationship with key universities, research institutions and other key players in the 5G- research arena in Europe. Mr. David Kennedy EURESCOM, Germany For the last two years he has been heavily involved in the creation and operation of the European Public Private Partnership on 5G. Eurescom leads several projects within this 5G-PPP with a view to creating and seeding the market for 5G infrastructure and services by 2020. Prior to that he was active in the promotion of the Industry views on the Future Internet and was one of the main activists in calling for and defining a European initiative on the Future Internet. He has been working for Eurescom since 1997 and in July 2005, he assumed the Director s position and restructured the company from a private research organisation to a professional research project and program management company. He has been involved in the creation and operation of many European research projects and initiatives, including the CELTIC Eureka Cluster, the European Technology Platform NEM, and numerous EU Framework Projects. 3

Prof. Matti Latva-aho Oulu University, Finland Prof. Matti Latva-aho was born in Kuivaniemi, Finland in 1968. He received the M.Sc. (E.E.), Lic.Tech. and Dr. Tech degrees from the University of Oulu, Finland in 1992, 1996 and 1998, respectively. From 1992 to 1993, he was a Research Engineer at Nokia Mobile Phones in the CDMA systems research group. During the years 1994-1998 Matti was a Research Scientist at Telecommunication Laboratory and Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC) at the University of Oulu. After graduation, he became Director of CWC in 1998. Besides being in charge of CWC activities Matti is also permanent Professor at Telecommunications Laboratory. Matti has been active in the research of CDMA communication systems since early 90s. Nowadays his research interests include broadband wireless communication systems in general. He has published about 150 international conference or journal papers in the field of wireless communications. He has won the following prizes: best doctoral thesis prize of technical sciences in Finland in 1998, Electrical Engineering Foundation (EIS) Award for the development of CDMA Techniques in Finland in 2000, best paper of the year in the area of wireless communications (Mountbatten Premium) in 2003 award from Institute for Electrical Engineering (IEE). Dr. Olav Queseth Ericsson, Sweden Dr. Olav Queseth received his MSc in computer engineering in 1995 from Chalmers, Sweden and a PhD degree in 2005 from KTH, Sweden in Radio Communications Networks. He is currently working at Ericsson as a senior researcher. He joined the 5G research project METIS in 2012 and since April 2014 he is the project coordinator. Prior to that he has worked with spectrum issues in the regulatory domain and before that he worked with standardization of radio aspects in 3GPP. He joined Ericsson in 2007 after doing spectrum research in the Ambient networks EU research project. Dr. Meryem Simsek ICSI/Berkeley, US Dr. Meryem Simsek received her Dipl.-Ing. degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany in 2008, holding a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation which is granted to the outstanding 0.5% of all students in Germany. She obtained her Ph.D. degree on reinforcement learning based inter-cell interference coordination in heterogeneous LTE-Advance networks from the same university in 2013. In 2013, she was a post-doctoral visiting scientist at Florida International University. Since 2014, she is a group leader at the Vodafone Chair Mobile Communication Systems at the Technical University Dresden, Germany. Her main research interests include resource management in heterogeneous wireless networks, 5G wireless systems, wireless network design and optimization, self-organizing networks, and the tactile internet. Dr. Simsek won the IEEE 4

Communications Society Fred W. Ellersick Prize 2015. Since June 2015, she is chairing the IEEE ComSoc Tactile Internet technical sub-committee and is co-chairing the IEEE Open Mobile Edge Cloud working group. She has initiated the IEEE P1918.1 working group and is serving as the secretary of this working group. In addition, she is leading the ETSI IP6 work item on IPv6 based Tactile Internet. In October 2016, she joined the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) Berkeley to start a new wireless research group. Chengshan Xiao Missouri University of Science and Technology / NSF, US Chengshan Xiao received a bachelor of science degree in electronic engineering from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China, in 1987, a master of science degree in electronic engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1989, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia, in 1997. Dr. Xiao is a Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla, MO (formerly the University of Missouri - Rolla). He is currently serving as a Program Director at USA National Science Foundation through intergovernmental personnel act assignment. Previously, he was a senior member of scientific staff with Nortel Networks, Ottawa, Canada, a faculty member at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, and the University of Missouri - Columbia, MO. He also held visiting professor positions in Germany and Hong Kong. His research interests include wireless communications, signal processing, and underwater acoustic communications. He is the holder of three U.S. patents. His invented algorithms have been implemented into Nortel's base station radio products after successful technical field trials and network integration. Dr. Xiao served as an elected member of Board of Governors, a member of Fellow Evaluation Committee, Director of Conference Publications, and Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Communications Society. He also served as an Editor, an Area Editor and the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, and the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems-I. He was the Technical Program Chair of the 2010 IEEE International Conference on Communications, Cape Town, South Africa. He served as the founding Chair of the IEEE Wireless Communications Technical Committee. He received several distinguished awards including 2014 Humboldt Research Award, 2014 IEEE Communications Society Joseph LoCicero Award, and 2015 IEEE Wireless Communications Technical Committee Recognition Award. 5
