FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Gary A, Cruz, Ph.D. Director of Academic Affairs and University Relations (323) 262-0997 gcruz@greatmindsinstem.org Great Minds in STEM Announces its Class of 2017 HENAAC Scholars GMiS Awards Over $419,000 to 109 STEM College Students Monterey Park, CA, September 8, 2017 Now in its 29th year of promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to underserved and underrepresented communities, Great Minds in STEM (GMiS) is pleased to name its Class of 2017 HENAAC Scholars. This year, with support from its dedicated sponsors and donors, GMiS is awarding 109 new scholarships totaling over $419,000 to a class representing the outstanding scholastic achievements of some of the nation s most technically-talented students. Over 1,400 applications were received for this merit-based scholarship competition. GMiS awarded scholarships in three categories: Corporate/Federal Agency-Sponsored Scholarships; Special Recognition Scholarships; and In Memoriam and Personal Tribute Scholarships. In addition to the scholarship, GMiS subsidizes at least $900 in travel, registration and hotel accommodations costs for each scholar to attend the annual HENAAC Conference, where scholars have the opportunity to engage with their sponsors. The 29th HENAAC Conference will be held in Pasadena, CA, from October 18 22, 2017. Scholars will be honored during the HENAAC Award Winners and Scholars Pinning Reception on Thursday, October 19 at 7:00 PM, and the Student Leadership Event on Saturday, October 21, at 6:00 PM. Both events will be at the Pasadena Convention Center and Civic Auditorium, respectively.
