中華電力有限公司 CLP Power Hong Kong Limited 20 September 2016 Energy Saving Champions Applauded in Record-Breaking CLP GREEN PLUS Award Programme CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today announced the winners in its fifth GREEN PLUS Award programme which rewarded businesses and organisations working to save energy in their daily operations. To mark the fifth anniversary of the programme, special trophies were presented for five specific areas of achievement: passion, concerted efforts, innovation, effectiveness and sustainability. This year, the programme continued its theme as Let s All Become Energy Saving Inspectors, encouraging employees to make an effort to inspire others in environmental conservation and appreciating their enthusiasm in initiating energy saving solutions. Forty-seven winning businesses and organisations were chosen from a record-breaking field of more than 6,000 entries. (Please refer to appendix for more details.) A number of booths were set up at the ceremony to showcase energy saving solutions from winning entries. They included the recycling of condensate water from the air-conditioning system of a shopping mall to provide cooling to the car park, the adaptation of carbon dioxide sensors and variable speed drives in the air ventilation system at a wet market to achieve optimal use of airconditioning, and a self-designed noodle production machine with steam control and enhanced thermal insulation function to avoid heat loss during noodle making. The solutions demonstrated innovative efforts by Hong Kong businesses and organisations to promote greener use of energy and improve productivity. Speaking at the ceremony, CLP Power Managing Director Mr Paul Poon said the award programme was an excellent platform for collecting and sharing the best green practices in the industry. The winners had shown that by addressing the challenges of climate change and applying innovative thinking, we could all become Energy Saving Inspectors. Mr Poon added that he hoped the winning businesses and organisations could be role models for their industries and encourage more businesses to adopt green practices. He said, The journey towards a more environmental-friendly future is a long and challenging one. CLP Power is dedicated to be the preferred energy partner for the community and join hands with the government, businesses and organisations from all sectors to introduce effective energy saving solutions and create a green and sustainable business environment. 1
Launched in 2012 as part of CLP Power s ongoing efforts to promote energy efficiency in the business sector, the GREEN PLUS Award programme has received an overwhelming response with participating businesses and organisations from a diverse range of sectors, including retail chain stores, small to medium enterprises, public services and utility companies, universities, hospitals, NGOs and catering companies. The programme has won support and recognition from across the Hong Kong community and CLP Power invited representatives from the government, green groups and chambers of commerce as well as academic, professional bodies and community leaders to join as judges. Speaking at today s event as guest of honour, Under Secretary for the Environment Ms Christine Loh said that the promotion of energy saving is one of the key measures of combating climate change. In view of the challenges brought about by climate change, we cannot solely rely on the Government's efforts but the active support and involvement of various stakeholders and every citizen are required. Ms Loh added that the award programme provided an opportunity for the business sectors to share their green practices and energy saving experience in the industry, encouraging commitment to energy conservation and carbon reduction in all sectors of the community. CLP Power has launched a number of other initiatives to help business customers save energy in recent years. They include the GREEN PLUS Experience Centre, the GREEN PLUS Energy Billboard and the Energy Audit service and the Meter Online service, all of which help customers better manage their power consumption.
