2013 Spring Graduation Information
Welcome to 2013 Spring Graduation Duquesne University welcomes all members of the Duquesne community parents, family members, guests, faculty and administrators to Spring Graduation 2013 to celebrate and reflect on the success and achievements of our graduates. The ceremony will be held in the on Friday, May 3, at 5:00 p.m. President Charles J. Dougherty will officially confer all degrees on the graduates. Candidates for graduation are recommended to receive an academic degree by the Dean of their school and are notified in writing of their graduation status by the Office of the University Registrar. Attendance at Commencement by graduates is strongly encouraged but not compulsory. However, all candidates must register their response to this invitation at the official Graduation website: www.duq.edu/graduation. Following are general guidelines to assist you and your guests: Diplomas are not distributed at the commencement exercises nor are they automatically mailed to students. You must indicate your preference of distribution (mail or pick-up) at www.duq.edu/graduation. A Baccalaureate Mass for graduates, families and guests will precede the Commencement Ceremony in the at 3:00 p.m. A university-wide reception for all graduates, families and guests will follow the Commencement Ceremony on Academic Walk. No tickets are required for any of the events. Therefore it is very important that you register for all events you plan to attend. So that we may be properly prepared for the ceremonies, please indicate the number of guests who will accompany you to each of the activities. On-campus parking, including the Forbes Avenue Garage, will be available to graduates and guests without charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Duquesne University Police Officers will be available throughout campus to provide directions. Individuals requiring special assistance due to ambulatory limitations are urged to contact, in advance, Duquesne University s Director of Parking, at 412-396-5267. Handicap seating for the Friday ceremony is very limited. Please call the Office of University Events at 412-396-5131 and register for these seats.
2013 spring graduation events DIPLOMAS Diplomas are not distributed at the commencement exercises nor are they automatically mailed to students. You must indicate your diploma distribution preference (mail or pick-up) at www.duq.edu/graduation. Due to processing requirements, most diplomas will be available after June 3, 2013 and can be picked up at the Office of the University Registrar or mailed. The School of Pharmacy diploma release date is June 20, 2013. Friday, May 3, 2013 Baccalaureate Mass 3:00 p.m. All graduates, families and guests are invited to attend a Baccalaureate Mass to share in a spiritual celebration of gratitude for an education for the mind, heart, and spirit. Graduates who choose to participate should report in gown (no cap) to the auxiliary gymnasium of the no later than 2:30 p.m. Procession begins promptly at 3:00 p.m. COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY 5:00 p.m. All students participating in the Commencement Ceremony must arrive in cap and gown by 4:30 p.m. Graduates should report directly to the Auxiliary Gymnasium of the. Degrees will be conferred upon all graduates as a group at this ceremony. Students will be recognized individually and receive their diploma jacket at their school diploma ceremony (see inside). University Reception following Commencement Ceremony Academic Walk Light refreshments for all graduates and guests will be served on Academic Walk. In case of inclement weather, the reception will be held in the Duquesne Union Ballroom.
Saturday, May 4, 2013 Diploma ceremonies Each school will hold individual ceremonies to personally recognize each graduating student with the traditional distribution of diploma jackets. There will be no limit on guest attendance for these Saturday ceremonies. Graduates and their guests should follow the guidelines below. McAnulty College and graduate school of liberal Arts 9:00 a.m. All candidates are to report in cap and gown by 8:15 a.m. in the Auxiliary Gymnasium of the A. J. Palumbo Center. Graduates should enter through Gate B, guests may enter through Gate A on Forbes Avenue. A reception will be held on the Mellon Hall patio, Academic Walk side, immediately following the ceremony. Mary Pappert School of Music 9:00 a.m. Union Ballroom Graduates should report to the City View Café on the sixth floor of the Duquesne Union no later than 8:15 a.m. Individual instructions regarding order of procession, seating, etc. will be given at that time. Procession lines will form promptly at 8:50 a.m. There will be a reception after the diploma ceremony in the Power Center Ballroom. A.J. Palumbo School of Business Administration John F. Donahue Graduate School of Business 12:00 noon Graduates should assemble at 11:15 a.m. in the Auxiliary Gymnasium of the A.J. Palumbo Center. A reception with light refreshments will be held on the Mellon Hall patio, Academic Walk side, immediately following the ceremony. School of Nursing 12:00 noon Union Ballroom Nursing candidates for graduation should report promptly at 11:30 a.m. to the City View Café on the sixth floor of the Duquesne Union for robing. Immediately following the diploma ceremony, a reception will be held in the Power Center Ballroom.
School of Education 3:00 p.m. All graduating students should assemble by 2:15 p.m. in the Auxiliary Gymnasium of the. Staff will assist candidates in line-up. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the Africa Room in the Duquesne Union. Bayer school of natural and environmental Sciences 3:00 p.m. Union Ballroom Graduates should report to the City View Café on the sixth floor of the Union no later than 2:15 p.m. You will be greeted by members of the Bayer School staff to assist you in lining up. Following the ceremony, an informal reception for graduates and their families will be held in the Power Center Ballroom. John G. rangos, Sr. school of health sciences 6:00 p.m. Health Sciences candidates for graduation will assemble in the Auxiliary Gymnasium of the at 5:15 p.m. A reception for graduates and their guests will immediately follow the ceremony on the second floor of the.
