MIDWEST MIDWEEK Brothers of Holy Cross Midwest Province - P.O. Box 460 Notre Dame, Indiana 46556-0460 January 31, 2018 Corevalue - Inclusiveness With January 6 being the feast of St. Andre Bassette, CSC, and January 20 being the feast of Blessed Basil Moreau, CSC it is clear that January is an important month for the Congregation of Holy Cross and all of us who work at Holy Cross schools. With that in mind we are starting something new at Archbishop Hoban that we are calling Holy Cross Celebration. (This will take the place of Catholic Schools Week.) Beginning with the Mass on Friday, January 19, anticipating the feast of Basil Moreau through February 2 we are, more intentionally, celebrating our Holy Cross heritage and our ten core values. Each day during announcements we talk about the core value for the day and an activity for faculty and students. On Friday, January 26, our corevalue was Inclusiveness. In order to bring home the idea that being inclusive extends beyond the walls of Hoban, we invited the other five Midwest Province schools to send a video from their school. Jared Armsey, a Hoban senior, then worked with Brother Bob Livernois to put together a video. The video was shown in all the Hoban religion classes throughout the day. Reflection There are times in life when we are called to be bridges, not a great monument spanning a distance and carrying loads of heavy traffic but a simple bridge to help one person from here to there over some difficulty such as pain, fear, grief, loneliness, a bridge which opens the way for ongoing journey. When I become a bridge for another, I bring upon myself a blessing, for I escape from the small prison of self and exist for a wider world, breaking out to be a larger being who can enter another's pain and rejoice in another's triumph. I know of only one greater blessing in this life, and that is to allow someone else to be a bridge for me. *Credit to Anna Mackie; taken from the Irish/Scottish Newsletter of November 2003 THIS REFLECTION IS COURTESY OF MISSION, ETHICS & SPIRITUALITY PROVIDENCE HEALTH CARE, VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMIBA www.providencehealthcare.org 9
