HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTION A prideful nativeland Rishra. "Har, Hari, Hijhre these three constitute Rishre". This ancient proverb is very known in this town. Traditionally, the Hars are the ancient resident in Khatriya Brahmins. The Haris residents were situated at Mini Market of N. K. Banerjee Street & Charbati of T. C. Mukherjee Street. Once upon a time the terror of entire Bengal the renowned Dacoit Bise Dakat' or Biswanath Babu or Biswanath Dom resided here. Hijhres used to live at S. C. Awon Road (Tetultala, Dhekipara, Gas Godown) which was in the memory of Sushil Chandra Awon the former Chairman of Rishra. Beyond these Rishra's Mukhopadhyay, Bandyopadhyay, Chattopadhyay, Dawn, Srimani, Laha, Ash, Gargari, Sadhukhan, Pakrashi & on the west side More Pukur's Ghosh & Sen families riches Rishra. Manasa Mangal, written in 1495 & the writings of famous traveller Dr. Barnier in 1656, Rishra (old name Rishira) was found. More than six decades Rishra is famous in its own tradition. The idol of Devi Siddheswari was established in 811. Siddheswari Kali is the presiding deity of Rishra. 1 MSSASK/Prospectus Ichera Yarn Mills (presently Wellington Jute Mill) India's first Jute Mill
was established by English Industrialist George Auckland in 1855. Since 30th September 1915, Serampore, Rishra & Konnagar were one Municipality, which was called Serampore Municipality. Rishra-Konnagar Municipality was formed on 1 October 1915, separated from Serampore and then complete separate Rishra Municipality was formed on 16 January 1944. The auditorium of Rishra High School & Rishra Rabindra Bhawan are the witness of various cultural activities. 2 MSSASK/Prospectus There were various circumferences in Rishra which make the residents of Rishra proud. The culture of Arts were in Rishra in the past. Many quality persons were involved in this field. Batakrishna Banerjee, Gurupada Dutta, Gobinda Mondal, Pasupati Kundu, Shibnath Sanyal were the famous Artists in Rishra. There were some institutions. Presently many Drawing Institutions are working in Rishra. But Meera Smriti Sishu Ankan Siksha Kendra is an upcoming Drawing Institution with innovative thinking. Chanchal Ghosh the helmsman of the Institution started it in 1989. Then it was known as 'Sishu Ankan Siksha Kendra'. He managed the organisation as a hobby & dedication to the arts then. After the demise of Meera Devi, mother of Sri Chanchal
Ghosh in 1991 the name of the organisation was changed to Meera Smriti Sishu Siksha Kendra. Regular classes of the organisation are going on in the different parts of Hooghly District. Beyond Rishra, the organisation built its own building in Uttarpara. Presently the number of students of the organisation is more than 1700. The Chief of the Advisory Board, Honourable Dilip Sarkar, Ex- Chairman, Rishra Municipality is deeply associated with the organisation. Every year in the month of November this organisation arranges Annual Art Exhibition in Rishra. The drawings of children, upcoming artists are presented in this Exhibition. Beyond this organisation organises different Art Exhibition in different areas. The first drawing book of Chanchal Ghosh, the Principal was published in 1999. That first book was inaugurated by famous artist Prakash Karmakar. About 21 books were published upto 2006 in the name of Meera Prakashani, edited by Chanchal Ghosh. Delhi-based BPI Prakashani published Chanchal Ghosh's Drawing Book in 2008. 3 MSSASK/Prospectus
INTRODUCTION Students of different ages are trained here. Workshops are arranged under guidance of teachers. Beyond the regular classes, Still life, Life Study, Outdoor Study & practical training are also given. Institution is like a family now. 8 MSSASK/Prospectus EXAMINATION Examination under Bangiya Sangeet Parishad & Bharatiya Charukala Mandir Board. Beyond this Institution has its own course & examination. Gold Chain is given every year to 4 students obtained highest marks and 90% marks holders are given attractive prizes too from Bangiya Sangeet Parishad affiliated examination. Prizes & incentives (Rs. 1000/- cash - 90% marks obtained), Silver Coin (85% marks obtained), Bronze Medal (80% marks obtained) is given to the students appeared in Bharatiya Charukala Mandir Board Examination. Examination of two Boards will commence in the month of May & June respectively. ART EXHIBITION Annual Art Exhibition commence on every November. Selected pictures of the students are displayed in the said Exhibition according to their performances throughout the year. The exclusive Exhibition is the main attraction of the Institution where the pictures drawn by the Principal, Teachers of the Institution & students are displayed. There are many types of pictures like - collage, Jamini Ray, fabric, origami and sand painting, paper quilling etc shown here and artists workshop also take place.
SUCCESS OF THE INSTITUTION Success of the students in the drawing examination of two renowned boards surely a milestone of the Institution. Some former & present students have made a mark in their own profession. Some of them completed Animation course and presently doing good jobs. Some participated in All India Art Exhibition in Delhi and made good mark there. FREE COACHING CENTRE Some students from economically backward family are trained in this Institution completely free of cost. The Institution is imparting drawing training to about 100 students. Not only that, drawing materials are also supplied by the Institution. During Durga Puja the great festival of Bengalies clothing and other materials are gifted by the Institution to the said students in every year. Some specific rules are there in this section.
