Who will I help? Who we are Our mission statement "No one need be hungry in Tunbridge Wells, South Tonbridge and the surrounding areas" Nourish is a registered charity providing short-term, emergency, non-perishable food and other essentials to people in crisis in Tunbridge Wells, South Tonbridge and the surrounding areas, supporting local people at a time when they need it most. We have a highly robust referral-only framework to ensure the need is genuine and work extremely closely with our front-line referral agencies. This ensures that all of our beneficiaries are receiving the necessary ongoing support in order to target the root cause of their problems. During 2016-2017 we worked with over 100 frontline agencies across Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge.. In 2016/2017, we provided food for 4,614 people, 46% of these were children under 18 and we had a total of 1,963 separate referrals were made to us, an increase of 44% on the previous year. Why your donation is so important We rely on the generosity of the local community for financial donations as well as food and other non-perishable items. Financial donations enable us to pay for storage, petrol costs for our deliveries and volunteer expenses, as well as core costs that enable us to keep providing such an important service to those who need a support net at a time of financial crisis. Charity of the year Nourish helps over 3,000 local people in crisis each year. Choose to support Nourish and you will ensure we can continue to provide help Making Nourish your Charity of the Year means you ll not only be able to help your local foodbank raise the vital funds that it needs to support the most vulnerable people within our community, you ll also create a team atmosphere for your staff as you work together to achieve your goal. It doesn t matter whether you re a small team or a large multinational company, there s a multitude of ways you can get involved in making Nourish your Charity of the Year! We can work with you to find different options to help support your company s corporate social responsibility programme, engage your team and make it fun too. There are many company-wide benefits to making Nourish your Charity of the Year: Shows your staff, customers and potential customers your company s commitment to being active in the heart of a local community issue Promotes team building Creates positive PR opportunities. We ve outlined below some of the different ways in which you can provide support. We re happy to come along and talk to your staff about what Nourish does, how we work and the difference you can make Corporate days Nourish delivers on average between 30 and 50 food parcels each week from our base at the Big Yellow Self Storage on the industrial estate. We rely on a team of volunteers to sort out donations, pack foodbags and deliver to those in need, but there are times when we need a bit of extra help in processing large donations, sorting out our 700+ square feet of storage and just making sure we rotate stock quickly enough so nothing goes to waste. We can arrange days where your team can come together to help not only will they find out how Nourish works first-hand, they ll get enormous satisfaction in seeing the immediate impact they can make! Food donations Last financial year, Nourish provided enough food for 28,000 meals that s a lot of food! We can t do it without the generous donations from people in our community. Organising regular food collections is a fantastic way to help; some companies organise a donation for the first Friday of every month, others do special collections to see us through tough times in the year - we ll also come and collect donations at a time that works for you! Fundraising fun Get your team fired up to fundraise! There are so many different ways you can do this, we ve had to produce another pack stuffed full of ideas, so you re sure to find something that can get them motivated and engaged. Download a copy of our fundraising pack here: Business boxes Having a Nourish collection pod in your reception or staff area is a great way for you to show your support for a local charity. We can collect these as often as you like, at a time to suit you. We ll provide you with a Certificate to show staff how much monies you have raised.

Give as you earn Give as you warn or Payroll giving is a tax-free way for UK tax payers to make regular tax-free donations to Nourish straight from their salary before tax is deducted. It costs Nourish the equivalent of 3 to provide a meal for someone in need, so signing up staff to donate 3 - the price of a large cup of take away coffee - each month can go a long way to help us help others. Supporting Nourish initiatives It s not all down to you, Nourish runs a number of different initiatives throughout the year that you can come along and support. These include: Dragon boat racing at Bewl Water providing rowers to the Nourish team who can then be sponsored by the company, or even having a company team raise sponsorship in addition to the Nourish team Buying a company table at the annual Nourish Casino Night or quiz nights. These are usually available as tables of 10 or you could even run your own quiz night/race night and donate the proceeds to Nourish! Donating raffle and auction prizes for events, such as our Casino or quiz nights Buying Nourish Christmas Cards to send to clients is not only a way of demonstrating your support for Nourish, it also helps raise awareness of the work we do. How we can help you We can provide: Support materials for your fundraising, such as posters and donation stations Our logo for use on your own materials for the year Support in promoting and publicising your efforts through the local press A dedicated page on our website to promote your activities, alongside a visual totaliser of funds raised/foods donated Publicity for your company via our quarterly newsletter A Nourish Trustee to come and speak to your staff or to show support at one of your fundraising events An end of year presentation at your company offices, with publicity through our website and local media A bespoke feature for use for internal publicity purposes. Case study: Creasey s In 2014, Tunbridge Wells-based accountants Creasey s made Nourish its Charity of the Year. During that time the 80-strong company raised 2000 for us through sweepstakes, raffles, tombolas, Easter egg donations, a bake-off, auction of office items and Fantasy Football competition. Its biggest event was a rounders competition against other local companies that raised 850, with the final fundraiser a Christmas Jumper day. In addition, the company donated 220 kg of food and every email sent out included a sign-off request to contribute to Nourish.

Sponsorship Fancy sponsoring some Nourish materials, an event or running your own event on our behalf? Nourish holds a number of different events each year, offering multiple opportunities for corporate sponsorship and awareness. Or why not organise your own event, invite your clients and donate the monies raised to Nourish? Alternatively, you can sponsor essential Nourish equipment. Sponsor an event Nourish runs a number of different events through the year, such as quiz nights and race nights. Your sponsorship can help cover the costs of the event, go towards prizes and can generate publicity and PR opportunities for you. Run your own event Why not run your own event, co-badge it with Nourish and donate the monies raised to those in need, all the while raising your profile with clients? Events can include golf days, wine tastings, film nights, BBQs, sponsored walks, for example. Sponsor materials You can also sponsor specific items that can help us with fundraising and awareness, such as the production of printed leaflets and posters, or having branded T-shirts and fleeces at events. We have some organisations that sponsor our storage units for the year. Every little bit makes a difference to us! How we can help you We can provide: Ideas for events Our logo for use on your own materials Support in promoting and publicising your efforts through the local press A feature on our website and inclusion in our quarterly newsletter. Case study: Childrensalon In 2015, local company, and also the world s largest online retailer of designer children s clothes, the Childrensalon, organised a fundraising evening with a buffet, live music, auction and raffle and their amazing pop-up shop selling discounted children s clothes. The evening raised over 5000 and is now established as an annual fixture in Nourish and the Childrensalon s calendars, with the 2016 event raising over 6000 for our coffers.

Cause-related marketing Cause-related marketing is a mutually beneficial way for your company to link with us to help raise funds, while also helping you achieve your business objectives too Cause-related marketing means you can do something special for Nourish as well as boosting your sales! It s a mutually beneficial agreement where we get the chance to raise awareness and funds, while you demonstrate to local people that you are socially responsible and interested in the same causes they are. Some cause-related marketing ideas include: Selling a specific item, or restaurant meal, with a percentage of the profit going to Nourish Having a 1 donation added to a restaurant bill that will go to Nourish Running a special charity day where all profits for the day go to us Operating a token scheme with customers having the chance to donate tokens given each time they shop to a Nourish good cause box. How we can help you We can provide: Ideas for cause-related marketing that tie in with both our objectives and your objectives Our logo for use in materials Support in promoting and publicising your efforts through our website and social media Inclusion on our website and quarterly newsletter. Case study: LUSH Lush in Royal Victoria Place organised a Lush Charity Pot Party one Saturday in 2017. For every special pot sold, a donation was made to Nourish. We were also on hand to provide information and raise awareness in a prime retail spot on the busiest day of the week. Not only did Lush sell out of the Charity Pots, but we raised over 300!

Food collections Nourish provides enough food for over 28,000 meals each year you can help us by organising regular food collections Last financial year, Nourish provided enough food for 28,000 meals that s a lot of food! We can t do it without the generous donations from people in our community. Organising regular food collections is a fantastic way to help: A #FirstFriday food collection every month this means we get regular donations and helps ensure our shelves don t go empty during busy periods. It also means you can change the donations needed each month, we may be more in need of toilet rolls one month, or curry sauces the next. We are sorted for pasta for the next 2 years, however! One-off collections, such as a Holiday Hunger collection we see an increase in the number of families with children who need a foodbag over the summer holidays. That s because children in low income families receive free school meals, but the summer break means an extra five meals per week for their parents to provide, placing an extra burden on already stretched families Seasonal collections for Easter and Advent. Our foodbags are nutritionally balanced but we know that some people also like to donate extra treats to help see our clients through a difficult time. We have companies that collect Easter eggs and advent calendars as an extra bonus for our bags A Reverse Advent Collection, in 2016 we ran our first reverse advent calendar campaign and it quickly became our largest food collection! Put simply, instead of opening up an advent calendar each day for a treat in the run up to Christmas, the reverse advent calendar requires an essential foodbag item added to a box each day instead. We saw teams from various companies competing to donate Reverse Advent Calendars! How we can help you We can provide: Posters to promote collections in your office Donation stations if you are organising regular collections Donations collected by Nourish at a time that suits you Promotion and publicity for your efforts through our website and social media Inclusion on our website and quarterly newsletter. Case study: Search Press Search Press is a local Tunbridge Wells art and craft book publisher, specialising in the publication of craft books for over 45 years. The company s MD had received an email soliciting donations for Nourish in 2014, ever since then they have been donating weekly parcels that are collected by Nourish each week. In total they have donated around 2.5 tonnes of food and provisions for people in crisis!

Corporate volunteering If you are committed to giving up a day for charity, why not choose Nourish we always need some help in organising our warehouse! Each week, Nourish delivers over 50 food parcels from our base at the Big Yellow Self Storage on the industrial estate. We rely on a team of volunteers to sort out donations, pack foodbags and deliver to those in need, but there are times when we need a bit of extra help in processing large donations, sorting out our 800 square feet of storage and just making sure we rotate stock quickly enough so nothing goes to waste. We can arrange days where your team can come together to help not only will they find out how Nourish works first-hand, they ll get enormous satisfaction in seeing the immediate impact they can make! It doesn t need to be warehouse-related, however, we ve had teams man stands at events or run instore collections at local supermarkets on our behalf. How we can help you We can provide: Posters to promote volunteer days in your office Promotion and publicity for your efforts through our website and social media Inclusion on our website and quarterly newsletter. Case study: Markerstudy Markerstudy employ over 4,000 staff in locations around the UK, but is a strong local presence. They regularly have staff come and volunteer to help sort our large warehouse unit and have fun in the process!

Employee fundraising Organising a company-wide fundraising event is a great way for your employees to have fun, build and strengthen relationships, and raise money for a good cause, as well as projecting a positive corporate image. See if you can claim match funding from your employer Fundraising for Nourish is a fantastic way to motivate staff, capitalise on their creativity and encourage teambuilding. If you offer match funding then even more money can go to helping local people in crisis. Here are a few great ways to get involved but we have so many ideas of how they can get involved that we have a separate fundraising pack to get them started which can be downloaded here: www.nourishcommunityfoodbank.org.uk/fundraising Cake sale Bake some cakes at home and ask colleagues to make or buy cakes for you, then sell them by the slice at work. It s a simple way to raise money and perk up the morning coffee break. Sell fruit to health conscious colleagues! The *#!!*#! swear box This is very easy to organise and a great tongue-incheek aid to cleaning up your work environment. You ll be amazed at how quickly those persistent offenders change their behaviour. You could also run a book on who will be fined the most. A casual clothes day The idea is that people make a donation to dress casually. You could even persuade the more adventurous to adopt fancy dress for the day and get sponsored. If your employers won t allow a fancy dress day, try having a bad-tie day or Christmas jumper day to raise sponsorship. How we can help you We can provide: Ideas for fundraising initiatives Posters to promote fundraising days in your office Promotion and publicity for your efforts through our website and social media Inclusion on our website and quarterly newsletter. Fidelity UK ran a Jeans Day Friday with a minimum donation of 2 per employee! A great way to easily raise funds for local people in need

Give as you earn A tax-free way for your employees to make regular donations to Nourish just 3 a month is enough to buy a meal for someone in need! Give as you earn or Payroll giving is a tax-free way for UK tax payers to make regular tax-free donations to Nourish straight from their salary before tax is deducted. It also helps us plan and budget when we know we have regular donations to help keep us afloat. Anyone whose pay is taxed through PAYE can donate through Payroll giving. Because the donation is taken from your gross pay, every pound you give will only cost you 80p, only 60p if you are a higher rate tax payer or only 55p if you are an additional rate tax payer. It costs Nourish the equivalent of 3 to provide a meal for someone in need, so signing up staff to donate 2.40 (the price of a takeaway coffee) each month through Give as you earn becomes a 3 donation to us, which goes a long way to help us help others. More than 8,500 employers in the UK currently operate the scheme with around 2% of employees signed up. For more information about payroll giving please see www.nourishcommunityfoodbank.org.uk/givemoney Matching donations Some companies match or part-match their employee donations via Payroll giving. Each time your employee is paid, your payroll department just needs to deduct their donation before tax. You can also contribute towards the costs of us to administrate the scheme. How we can help you We can provide: Advice on setting up a Give as you earn scheme Posters and information about Nourish to encourage staff to sign up Promotion and publicity for your efforts through our website and social media Inclusion on our website and quarterly newsletter.

What else can you do? There are many other ways in which you can help Nourish as one-off activities! Even by simply following us on social media, we can help raise awareness Nourish is run by a team of volunteers so we are always on the lookout for companies that can spare some time or expertise to help. Here are just a few ideas of how to get involved. Donate funds Make a corporate donation Match fund your employees if they are fundraising on their own Gifts in kind Help with organising events or manning stalls Providing marketing expertise or design time Helping us with the cost of stationery Raise awareness Promoting our events through your company s intranet We run a number of events each year so help in organising these or manning stalls is always welcome Like our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/nourishcommunityfoodb ank Follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/nourishfoodbank Supporting events Buying a table for the annual Casino night or quiz nights Providing rowers for the Dragon Boat race Donating raffle or auction prizes Offering a venue for events or meetings For more information contact: fundraising@nourishcommunityfoodbank.org.uk

Keep it safe and legal We want all the lovely people who choose to fundraise for Nourish, above all, to stay safe and not to break any laws! It s not worth taking any unnecessary risks so here are a few things that you may need to consider prior to organising your fundraising event Legal matters While we re sure you won t break the law on purpose, some fundraisers like raffles, lotteries and competitions with prizes have strict rules about how they are organised and some require licences - Find out more at www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk. Raffles and lotteries are subject to strict and complex laws to ensure that yours runs smoothly and within the law, you can either get advice from your local council or consult the Institute of Fundraising: www.institute-of-fundraising.org.uk. Nourish Community Foodbank cannot accept liability for any loss, damage or injury suffered by anyone participating in a fundraising event. Where necessary you should arrange adequate public liability insurance cover. Make sure you check with your local authority before holding events where collecting money on the streets or running market stalls are concerned. Remember to include our name and charity number on all your publicity material Nourish Community Foodbank is Registered Charity No. 1154716. Health and safety A good starting point is the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website www.hse.gov.uk, where you can access free health and safety advice. Always thoroughly check anything that s a possible source of problems by doing a risk assessment. Events that involve strenuous activities, such as running, swimming, etc. should clearly state that a medical check-up is recommended. Consider first-aid provision and, where possible, have a trained first aider present at your events. For bigger events, ask your local St John s Ambulance crew for help. For an event in a public area for example, a minimarathon or sponsored bed-push you should inform your local police and local council of the date and the route. If your event is going to involve lots of people, make sure that there are enough qualified or appropriately briefed people to supervise. Check out references and relevant qualifications of any organiser or supplier you re thinking of using for an event and always check that caterers and venues have relevant food hygiene and environmental health certificates before considering them for an event where food is to be served or sold. If you are preparing or handling food yourself, please remember to adhere to basic rules for the safe and hygienic preparation, cooking and storing of food you don t want to make those who have supported your fundraising efforts unwell! If in doubt, please consult the Food Standards Agency website www.food.gov.uk. Now you should be all set to get fundraising... HAVE FUN!

Thank you! Your fundraising is so important to us and all funds help us to provide emergency food and provisions to people in crisis in Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and the surrounding areas On behalf of everyone at Nourish Community Foodbank, thank you for helping us to change lives. It s people like you that make what we do possible. P.S We d love to hear how your event went and to see your photos... Please send them to us at: fundraising@nourishcommunityfoodbank.org.uk
