ICE South West Civil Engineering Awards 2018 Benefits of entering All projects All projects will be featured on our website as part of the People s Choice Award voting - 2,000 votes were cast in the 2017 awards. We ll also include a downloadable PDF specifically about your project. Every project is featured in its own Tweet and Facebook post during the regional People s Choice voting period. We try to tag as many organisations connected to the project as possible and also link back to the voting page. This reaches almost 1.5k Twitter followers and over 200 Facebook followers. Shortlisted projects Shortlisted projects will all be featured in our 2018 awards film. This will be screened at the awards ceremony, highly publicised externally and made available online via YouTube. Projects that are shortlisted will be considered as subject matter for evening meetings, exhibitions, displays or visits during the following year. Winning and highly commended projects Winning and highly commended projects will be featured in press releases following the awards. Live social media posts will be sent on the evening of the awards, tagging relevant organisations to help you celebrate. Winners will be given use of the 2018 Award Winners logo. ICE South West Civil Engineering Awards 2018 Award categories for 2018: Project over 3 million (New Build) Project over 3 million (Re-engineered) Project under 3 million Community Collaboration People s Choice Showcase Award Projects over and under 3 million Successful projects should demonstrate innovation, creativity and social value whilst embedding a safety and sustainability culture. Winning projects should demonstrate how civil engineering has gone beyond the technical remit to make an excellent contribution to the engineering world. Further category definitions: New Build - a new piece of infrastructure Re-engineered - restoration, rennovation or maintenance of pre-existing infrastructure. Community Award The Community Award recognises projects that improve public space, infrastructure and enhance the living and working environment for the local community. Consideration will be given to projects which show community and local media engagement, promotion of civil engineering, innovation and ingenuity. Collaboration Award This category rewards projects of excellence in collaborative working. This may be with other engineering organisations, public sector, non-engineering organisations or volunteers. Submissions will show how this was achieved and the benefits. Showcase Award This is awarded at the discretion of the judging panel for projects that they feel demonstrate a significant contribution to society or to the South West region in particular. Graduate of the Year Do you know a talented graduate who stands out from the crowd? Could they represent graduates across the region? Be sure to nominate them for our Graduate of the Year award. Apprentice of the Year We re looking for the regional stars who could represent apprentices across the South West. If you know somebody, don t forget to nominate them. Eligibility All professions within the built environment sector are invited to enter. All entries must: indicate which category they wish to be considered for on the application (if you are entering more than one category, you will need to send separate applications). The judges may consider your application for an alternative category should they deem this necessary. indicate the value of the project. Application Fee The application fee for each entry must be paid upon submission. Entry fee per project: 100 + VAT The awards are free to enter for public sector and at the discretion of the panel. Rules of Entry 1. Projects considered for the Awards must have been constructed within the ICE South West Region, and completed between 1 January and 31 December 2017. If there are any queries about whether the location falls within the South West, please contact the regional office. 2. Entries must be submitted electronically (memory stick, file sharing site or email). 3. Closing date for entries is Friday 2 March 2018. ICE South West Civil Engineering Award Winners 2017 Over 1m (Re-engineering) Winner: Ashton Avenue Swing Bridge Over 1m (New Build) Winner: Wessex Water Supply Grid 4. All documents and images submitted as part of the entry may be used in ICE regional publicity material unless specifically requested otherwise, with no copyright issues. ICE will assume that the person submitting the entry has obtained the necessary permissions to use the supporting material for the entry and associated ICE publicity, and has also informed all relevant parties of the submission. 5. Agreement to submit an entry must be obtained from the commissioning authority, the designer and contractor. Evidence of prior written approval to the entry by each relevant party will be required by the judges, before any entry can be accepted and can go on for consideration. If the nomination form cannot be signed, alternative proof must be provided. 6. The application fee for each entry must be paid upon submission of the entry if applicable. 7. The application must include the project value and selected award category. Submission Guidelines The intention to submit an entry should be advised by Friday 2 February 2018. Submission of a formal written entry is required no later than Friday 2 March 2018. Entries must be submitted on memory stick, using file share or email, with all of the below included: A completed nomination form with entry fee. PDF version of report which consists of no more than 1,500 words with diagrams and images, totalling no more than 15 pages, to include highlights and merits. Up to 10 high resolution images for use in promotional materials. These must be copyright-free. Up to a10-slide PowerPoint presentation for use during judging. Completed press release information form, with agreed quotations regarding the project. One PowerPoint slide, with the title and image of the project using the ICE South West template. 300 word summary of the project, which will be used on our website for People s Choice Award voting. The application fee for each entry must be paid upon submission of the entry if applicable.
