Allegheny Highlands - Boy Scouts of America FALL CAMPOREE Civil War Encampment & Re-Enactment September 22 nd 24 th, 2017 Angelica, NY This is the Western Gate s 14 th Anniversary, So come join your host, Allegheny Highland Council, for another fun-filled weekend of seeing, learning and doing on the Allegany County Fairgrounds in Angelica, NY on September 22 nd 24 th, 2017. Our 14 th annual American Civil War Camporee promises to be the best ever! This year the volunteer reenactors will share their knowledge of the era, and do battle re-enactments on the streets of Angelica. Other presenters will contribute as well. Troops are encouraged to carry the camporee theme into their campsites, and there will be an award for the Troop with the best Civil War theme in their unit. The Allegany County Fairgrounds offers an ideal site for the camporee. Troops will be encamped in the infield of the fairgrounds, where fires will be permitted on a raised surface only. Running water and restroom facilities are available. This year, we will have a Special Saturday Evening Cracker Barrel and Show. In case of inclement weather, there will be sufficient indoor space for safety. The trading post will be stocked with all kinds of goodies. Check-in begins at 6:30pm on Friday, September 22 nd Troops will choose or be assigned to a site on arrival, a Hot Dog Special (7p.m.) as well as a variety of other choices will be available at the Trading Post for arriving troops who do not wish to prepare an evening meal, or for extra-hungry scouts. A movie will be shown Friday & Saturday evening. There will be an evening Cracker Barrel on Friday for Adult Leaders and Senior Patrol Leaders, and information on program times and stations will be distributed then. There is also a Saturday night Cracker Barrel for all. Saturday will begin with breakfast prepared by Troops in site, followed by an opening ceremony and enlistment of scouts into either the Union or Confederate forces. (Advance registration units may indicate their preference for which side.). This year the boys will be able to chose one of two programs: 1. Civil War Stations Downtown or 2. Two Merits badges at the Fairgrounds Scouts will be mustered into their units as young men were during the Civil War, issued guns and tour the stations as a unit. Demonstrations and interpretations of military and civilian life during the period will be presented by period re-enactors. Units there WILL be several food vendors downtown if the scouts don't want to pack a lunch, the Troops will eat lunch downtown. The program will continue after lunch with a skirmish downtown on the streets of Angelica, and a Boy Scout battle re-enactment in the afternoon, followed by another re-enactment battle. Supper on Saturday will be on your own this year. 2

The Evening Program on Saturday will include Dinner from 5:00pm - 6:30PM, and The Special Big Big Show starts at 7:45PM. Dessert to pass, Cracker Barrel at 9:00pm. Each Troop is asked to prepare a LARGE ( enough for your whole unit) Dessert Also Movies will be shown again 9:30PM - 11:00PM On Sunday, after breakfast in site, campers may have a chance to attend a Scouts all faith service at 10:30am (required). (Catholic Mass 10am Downtown on Sunday). The re-enactors will continue their interpretive program and conduct a second battle re-enactment on Sunday afternoon. There will be a Parade through Angelica that All scouts are requested to participate in. After which we will have our closing in the Town Square The Village of Angelica, A Town Where History Lives, with its historic district and shops, also can be toured before Troops head for home. The Camporee closes on Sunday, September 24 th, at 3:30pm. Registration is $15.00 for youth and adults. Registration includes Camporee patch, program, awards, cracker barrels and more! A set of two patches are offered again this year for the camporee, with different borders for Union and Confederate participants. Each registered camper will receive the patch for their side. ADVANCE REGISTRATION ENTITLES YOU TO THE SET OF BOTH PATCHES! DIRECTIONS TO CAMPOREE FROM WEST: Take Southern Tier Expressway (Interstate 86) Eastbound to Exit #31. At Exit, turn left at bottom of ramp and proceed down hill to stop sign (at East Main Street). Turn right on East Main Street and travel to Fairgrounds Road (on left). Turn up Fairgrounds road and continue to bear left to Fairgrounds entrance. Follow signs to parking and camping areas. FROM EAST: Take Southern Tier Expressway (Interstate 86) Westbound to Exit #31. At Exit, turn right at bottom of ramp and proceed down hill to stop sign (at East Main Street). Turn right on East Main Street and travel to Fairgrounds Road (on left). Turn up Fairgrounds road and continue to bear left to Fairgrounds entrance. Follow signs to parking and camping areas. FROM SOUTH: McKean County area, North on US 219 to Interstate 86, and follow directions for West above, or Rte 446 North through Eldred to Portville. Follow NY Rte 305 North through Cuba and take Interstate 86 Eastbound to Exit 31 and follow directions as above. Potter County Area, North on Rte 449 and continue North on NY Rte 19 through Wellsville and Belmont to Belvedere. Take Interstate 86 Eastbound to Exit 31 and follow directions as above. 3

Pre-registered Scouts will be able to take home a Mock Rifle for use in the Scout Battle. (For scouts registering on site there will be a limited supply of extra mock rifle kits available for $5.00 each, on a first come first serve basis.) A set of two patches are again offered for the camporee, with different borders for Union and Confederate participants. Each camper attending will receive the patch for their side.
