When it comes to sports marketing, no one knows the score better than Reid Ryan, founder and CEO of Ryan-Sanders Baseball. Reid s vision to bring a major league mindset to a minor league baseball team in Round Rock was a home run with fans and the community. The Round Rock Express set attendance records in its first season (and oh, by the way, won the Texas League championship), and 12 years later remains the gold standard for minor league franchises. The Brooks Show Brooks Bennett, Chief Information Officer, City of Round Rock Back by popular demand, City of Round Rock CIO Brooks Bennett shares his unique insight into the latest in communications technology. Don t know what a Google Fusion Table is? Wondering what Pinterest can do for your city? What s the latest in mobile devices and apps? Learn all this and more from the man who can not only write the code for your dynamic Web content, but can actually explain it, too! Show Me the Money: Transitioning to the State Cable Franchise Agreement Clarence West, Attorney, Austin If your city is not already on the State Cable Franchise Agreement, it will be soon. In his presentation, Mr. West will discuss the transition from local cable franchise agreements to the State Cable Franchise Agreement. He will also discuss the status of statewide legislation that could ease the restrictions on the use of PEG funds to allow them to be used for PEG personnel and operations.

Noon 1:30 p.m. Luncheon and General Business Meeting Professional Certification Program Dr. Jacqueline Lambiase, Associate Professor of Journalism and Strategic Communications, Schieffer School of Journalism, Texas Christian University TAMIO and TCU are entering into an historic partnership to develop and operate a professional certification program for public communicators. TAMIO fave Dr. Jacque Lambiase will be here to elaborate on the planning for the program and to offer a timeline for implementation. 1:45 3:00 p.m. Concurrent Sessions 3:00 3:15 p.m. Refreshment Break 3:15 4:30 p.m. Concurrent Sessions 5:15 6:30 p.m. Networking Reception 6:30 p.m. Restaurant Romp Bragging 101: Effectively Communicating Your Department s Success and Worth Panelists: Jay Socol, Public Communications Director, City of College Station; and additional players to be named later As communicators, we brag on our cities all the time. But how good are we at patting ourselves on the back? What municipal communicators do each day can have a huge impact on achieving the goals and objectives established by your city council and management. But do they know that? Hear a panel of communicators discuss the ways to make your department indispensible and influential, from developing a strategic communications plan to quantifying your value through data, as well as dollar$. County and Local and Feds, Oh My! MacKenzie Kelly, Emergency Management Administrative Technician, Williamson County; and Doug Matthews, Chief Communications Director, City of Austin Although we all think we may be prepared for a crisis to come our way, when it is here, the decisions don t allow for much time to think, OH, MY! How do you make those unprecedented decisions? How do you best communicate with the people you need to get a message to? Who is governing you, and how many play a part in your decisions? Crisis communication displayed at its best, learn the tools and processes that these individuals used in some recent events they were faced with in their cities. Total Recall: An Epic Battle Pitting Government Against a Hostile Public Hilary Shine, Public Information Director, City of Killeen; and Jay Socol, Public Communications Director, City of College Station This is no recurring dream about Mars; it s an increasing number of cities finding themselves under the threat of recall, even when there s no evidence of wrongdoing. Hear from one city that battled a biased media and lost five councilmembers, and from another whose councilmembers prevailed, but not without publicly fighting one of their own the recall s primary financier. Film Festival TAMIO President Tom Bryson, Director of Communications and Marketing, City of Farmers Branch TAMIO s annual look at the best in video never fails to deliver. Come see what your fellow communicators are up to, and be prepared to steal as many good ideas as possible and reinforce how to clearly and concisely deliver your message. In other words, What are you sinking about?

8:00 9:00 a.m. Networking Breakfast 9:00 10:15 a.m. General Session Face to Face with Facebook What s on deck for local governments using Facebook? We ll get some inside baseball from Austin s Facebook operations center, and learn some local government best practices for this powerful communications tool. And don t worry about extra innings: we ll leave plenty of time for Q&A! 10:15 10:30 a.m. Refreshment Break 10:30 11:45 a.m. Concurrent Sessions Future Shock Panelists: Brooks Bennett, Chief Information Officer, City of Round Rock; John Garrett, Publisher and Co-Owner, Community Impact Newspaper, Austin; and Robert Quigley, Professor of Journalism, The University of Texas Think back over the past five years about how technological advances and changes (read: staff cuts) in local news media have changed how we do business as government communicators. Now try to look forward five years. Having trouble seeing the future? Fear not! Our all star panel will provide the insight you need to be prepared for what the future will bring. Panelists will offer their perspective on the changes that are a-comin. Herding Cats: Leveraging Social Media Panelists: Nyleva Corley, Digital Content Group, The University of Texas; James Kunke, Community Relations and Tourism Director, City of Lewisville; Sally Ellerston, Public Information Officer, City of Burleson; and Roy Cantu, Public Information Director, City of McAllen So your Twitter and Facebook pages are humming along. Now several departments want their own. How you do lay out the rules of the road for this venture? How do you monitor your organization s social media activity? And more importantly, how do you make all those messages work together to benefit your entire organization? Our panelists will share their experiences to help you develop your own social media strategies.
