The Value of Safety Programs for Your Company Keep your employees safe and let their skills shine by implementing a safety program for your company. Every industry has its own risks, so customizing your program to fit the specific needs of your business is what we do! Safety programs are not an unnecessary step of bureaucracy; they are very valuable to your place of business and they are required by OSHA in most instances. Besides your customers, there is nothing more valuable to your business than its employees. When you have a specific safety program in place, you protect your workers from injury and accidents. Employees must learn the proper safety protocols to protect themselves and those around them. Besides the safety of those working with you, customers do not want to use a business that does not have proper protocols in place. Proper safety programs legitimize your business and provide assurance about the quality of your work. Remember, no customer wants to hire a business that is unsafe. Helping you select the safety programs that apply to you and your industry, and even writing these programs for you is just part of what we do here at Cleavenger Compliance. Then once the programs are written, employees of all levels must be trained on these safety programs. Again, we can do this for you as well. Helping you from start to finish with all of your safety & compliance needs is what we do. Let us put our 20 plus years of experience to work for you and help you take your safety & compliance culture to a whole new level!

Recent OSHA Inspections... Ashland, Ohio August 11, 2016 Proposed Penalties $42,413 The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Toledo Area Office has cited the food plastics manufacturer for three serious one-other-than serious safety violations. Acting on a complaint after a worker suffered the partial amputation of his left thumb, inspectors began an investigation on June 28, 2016, and found violations of OSHA's machine safety standards. The agency determined the manufacturing maintenance employee suffered the injury on Feb. 23, 2016, while operating a plastic blow molding press. With a guard door open, the employee reached for a part when the machine's mold closed on the employee's left hand. The crushing injuries led to the amputation of the end of the employee's thumb. OSHA found that the company failed to: Report a hospitalization injury to OSHA within 24 hours, as required. Adequately guard operating parts. Implement machine safety procedures, known as lockout/tagout, to prevent unintentional operation during service and maintenance. Train workers in lockout/tagout procedures. Quote: Each year hundreds of workers suffer amputation and other serious injuries while operating machines in manufacturing facilities," said Kim Nelson, OSHA's area director in Toledo. This company could have prevented this worker's injury by following common sense safety procedures. Once it occurred, the company was obligated to report the incident to OSHA - but failed to do so. Elmore, Ohio July 13, 2016 Proposed Penalties $70,000 The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued one willful violation to a local company after a worker had three fingers fractured when his right hand became caught in a pinch point as he operated a metal coiler. After investigating the March 2016 injury, OSHA cited the company for failing to ensure the machine had adequate safety guards. Quote: "OSHA has specific guidelines to protect workers from dangerous machinery, chemicals and other hazards in the workplace," said Kim Nelson, OSHA's area director in Toledo. This company needs to re-evaluate its safety and health programs to ensure employees are being protected from job hazards." Lakemoor, Illinois July 5, 2016 Proposed Penalties $53,900 The U.S. Department of Labor s Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued 11 serious and four other-than-serious violations at a Lakemoor Dental office after conducting inspections at the company s two locations. The April 2016 inspections were opened after OSHA received a complaint alleging violations of OSHA s bloodborne pathogen exposure standards. The agency s investigators found a worker suffered a sharps injury at one of the locations on March 9, 2016. The agency s Chicago North area office found the employer: Did not establish bloodborne pathogen control plan and hazard communication programs at either location. Failed to require the use of appropriate gloves and personal protective equipment. Did not provide medical evaluation and follow-up to employees after an exposure incident. Failed to make Hepatitis B vaccinations available to employees. Did not train workers about chemical and bloodborne pathogen hazards and precautions. OSHA has specific guidelines to protect healthcare workers in the medical and dental offices who may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens while providing patient care. Articles courtesy of OSHA.gov
